It would be better if the space bar is in the middle and 4 rows of keyboard..
Using too many the blue button
*
You sure about that? I'm typing on a four row keyboard with a centre spacebar... and missing the right side spacebar on the N900 keyboard. Sigh.

Grass is alwwya greener on the other side, no?

Doesn't help that they N810 keyboard is mushy.

Worse come,I'm planning to do this.

The manual way is still the best way after all when it comes to doing stuff with *nix machines after all. You can backup modded files and easily use it after future updates, like I did prior to PR1.2.

Also, when things break, you'll know exactly why and might be able to repair it on hour own. - unless you fry your board like I did lol.

Anyhow, at LYP right now, anybody want me to check anything?

I just got my lesbo adaptor (well, three actually + short micro usb B data cable), and other then having to enable host mode manually, it's working deliciously for all pendrives i throw its way. Ext HDD experiments using external power (battery pack) has not been so successful, as was powered hubs via external power. Will try more when I get back.

IINM Trek came out with a flash based ext HDD like thing a few years back, wonder if that would work using OTG. At least it would have better storage compared to a pendrive.

But like SSDs (which is freakin mahal people), it's kompem gonna be mahal punya.

At least I got myself a 16GB microSD with adaptor, which works fine on the N810.

@alien: just read your hildon.menu files. You DO have a "games.directory" file in /usr/share/applications/hildon right?

Other than that, it pretty much looks like how I did my menus way back. Unless PR1.3 changed something, I'm stumped.

Gonna try powering my HDD up with my PSP adaptor. Beats the purpose of self-contained power, but 2.5 ext HDD + PSP adaptor is a heck of a lot more portable then a 3.5 ext HDD lol.

@mashi: It's not just a phone, it's a also tablet! That you can put IN YOUR POCKET! With a keyboard... built in!

Well, it's PRIMARILY a tablet anyway lol.

wink.gif I have a looottt to learn! How do you guys keep your N900 anyway?
By using a pouch?
*
Much to learn this young padawan has. Just read up on FrontPage, Google if there's no answer for your question and THEN ask us questions. You'll be fine.

How do I keep my N900. You mean the one I killed through over-overclocking/hacking? It's on my father's table as a paperweight lol.

Now using an N810 lol. Tablet only no phone at all.

Anyway, I KEPT my N900 in an Otterbox case (RM100-120 from online, mine sold off edi), STILL the best case EVAR IMHO.

Other than that, there are pouches, leather cases, hard plastic cases, clear crystal cases and even silicone cases for the N900, so just pick what you like and can afford lol.

And...

Anyone try SIP ?
*
SIP? Internet Calling?

@alien: Yep... 2.5 ext HDD + PSP adaptor.

Anyway, primary testing of 2.5 ext HDD + PSP adaptor --> N810 OTG = the HDD could be READ once (REALLLY slowly), then it disappeared... sweat.gif

Funnay, really. 1000ma from the 5V adaptor of my PSP might still be not enough to power it fully eh? Or maybe there's just something funky going on in my N810... hmm.gif

No matter, will test further.

Ugh, I love Tear but it's pissing me off right now by locking up every time I try to reply to this thread lol.

Anyway, I have asked around about the CA-157. Thing is, NOBODY in LYN has it in stock. Sigh. Even when it gets sold, you can be sure it's not gonna be cheap. Let's just wait for the third party imitations to come, shall we? Or just order a microA -> female usb wire, which theoretically would work 100% like the CA-157.

@alien: Why not just create a .desktop file for the host switch. I've never liked too much QBWs anyway, as they clog up hildon-desktop.

Does /usr/bin/flash.bin run fine in xterm? What's the output like? Because for the life of me, I have never executed a .bin file on it's own before.

Maybe it needs an interpreter? Like "sh" for unprepared script files?

Flash.sh file contents bro?

Preferably in a spoiler+codebox as I'm getting screwed over by Tear enough WITHOUT a download running in the back lol. Sigh, Nokia needs to update their pure NIT line really.

Oh, and try "sudo /usr/bin/flash.sh" in xterm and see how the output is like?

If that fails you can edit the sudoers file to make the "sudo" command usable by all (which is suicide from a security point of view but hey, it's a tablet. Not a CIA mainframe lol).

CODE
#!/bin/sh
mount /dev/sda1 /media/flash

Content of flash.sh

Dammit...At time like this I wonder why I stopped using linux as my main OS...
*
Try using this as a command: /usr/bin/osso-xterm "sudo gainroot; mount /dev/sda1 /media/flash"

See how that works out? EDIT: It doesn't work for me either lol.

Easier you just edit the sudoers file so that it won't ask for password permission every time you decide to go superman (sudo). But like I said, your security will be permanently compromised (I can ssh into your system and make sudo changes at will if you set the sudoers file to ALL, which is bad).

IINM - PLEASE DO CHECK WITH TMO AND GOOGLE BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE - you do this by editing /etc/sudoers and adding the line "user ALL = NOPASSWD: ALL" somewhere in there.

Again *THIS MIGHT BRICK YOUR SYSTEM SO PLEASE RECHECK*

And this is a dirty, dirty hack BTW. There should be a "clean" way to do this somewhere, but I'm not sure how lol.

@jananan: At least nyou guys have full python. The N810 doesn't have python-numpy ported for it and so I can't run the latest version of Endgame: Singularity which is pissing me off big time.

Endgame: Singularity is a great AI sim game BTW.

Lol on the "why you bring out..." posts.

Most people over here where I am seem to think the N810's a phone (or a PSP haha). Have to explain long and hard how it's not. Lipis quite advanced edi lol, we already have a few N8 users here (thanks to me poisoning them heh).

Even the people at MPO KLCC think it's a phone really, telling me to not take pictures of the ochestra. I was like, "with what camera?" while showing the empty, cam-less back.

Funnay.

Dslr is for total control and "stick to wall size" print quality. If you want to share pics online only, no real reason to get dslr besides it's flexibility for creative expression.

I mean, you take a 20mp full frame picture and resize to VGA reso... What the flying...

@alien: For as long as it takes for Nokia to bring out a Meego smartphone that ticks all my boxes. For instance, if they stick an EDOF cam on the N9, I'll wait some more.

What do you mean what happened to my N71? It's still there, filling the task of my primary device. Yes I use the N810 a lot more now, but IMHO it's still just a secondary device for web consumption/heavy duty tasks. Plus the N810 still depends on the E71 for net access anyway.

If it comes down to "bring one device to be stuck on an island with", I will definitely bring the E71.

But at least with the E71 + N810 combo, I'm no longer in a hurry to get a shiny new gadget as I already have all I need. Now I just have to wait for the N9 or whatever.

Hmm, I wonder if Nitdroid can do the N810?
