I have been dreaming and drooling over getting a blu-ray player since I got my first LCD TV. At that time the price of a blu-ray player was over RM 800 (USD $ 256). That price tag was too high for me.

Finally I own it, all thanks to Courts which having a crazy MegaSale for 3 days start yesterday and this model is deduct RM 500 (USD $ 160) from it actual price of RM 899 (USD $ 288), which means only cost RM 399 (USD $ 128), I believe it is the cheapest price ever can get now for blu-ray player in Malaysia. Yahoo!

Pros:
- Full HD 1080p Blu-ray playback with 24Fs + BD-Live v2.0 support.
- Up to 1080p of DivX HD, XviD, MKV, WMV, MP4 & AVI playback support.
- MP3 & WMA audio playback support.
- DTS-HD Master Audio & Dolby TrueHD support.
- Internet@TV (more review on 2nd post)

Cons:
- WiFi ready only, need to purchase the optional wireless adapter for WiFi capability.
- No 3D playback capable.

With such a price, I am nothing but happy over its price performance & functionality. Although there is no Wifi, I am totally okay with it. Wifi can be easily added with wireless adapter in the future (if necessary). 3D playback is nothing for me as 3D LCD/LED TV is too expensive for me at this moment, at least RM 15K - USD $4.8k, totally out of my budget and I also won't fork out such an amount for it.

Enjoying my Blu-ray Movie - Avatar now. The color is vivid and sharpen video quality. :-)

* Above is sample screenshot from internet, the Internet@TV apps is base on country selection.
The Recommended Apps is not available in Malaysia.

Finally success Internet sharing by connecting the blu-ray player to my laptop via Network Ethernet.
Get a taste and fun on the Internet@TV functionality. smile.gif

Pros:
- Smooth YouTube streaming experience.
- Character input support T9 function and base on mobile phone entry design.
- Support on Social Network - Facebook, Twitter.
- Weather Display - AccuWeather.
- News Reader - USA Today & History Channel.
- Photos browsing and sharing - Picasa & Getty Images.
- Maps - Google Maps.
- Misc games available.

Cons:
- Input via remote is lagging, not responsive. Troublesome on text entry.
- No ROVI, Blockbuster, Netflix, Vudu & Pandora support in my country.
- All games is silent, no sound available. Bored on playing silent games.
- Downloadable Apps is limited. Not much choices at the moment.
- Available space for storing apps is too little, only 60MB space available in total.

Others functionality review:
- Great video & sound quality via playback on blu-ray, support on 24P.
- Graphical UI interface, straight forward and user friendly.
- Smooth playback on MKV, DivX, Xvid, WMV & AVI video.
- Playback support on MP3 & WMA sound.
- Fast Blu-ray Disc loading time (base on what I read from internet, at least it takes less than a mins to load.)
- BD-Live data download to flash drive support. (Anyway I find somehow BD-Live contents is useless, basically new title trailer in HD format)
- USB 2.0 - Flash Drive & 2.5 inch Hard Disk support.
- Firmware upgrade available online or offline (via Flash Drive).
- Available content stream (Video, Sound & Image) from Samsung PC Share Manager via Network Ethernet.

Others Limitation:
- Some download AVI (DivX / Xvid) is not playable.
- Blu-ray scenes repeating when error playback occur, it not auto skip to next frame.
- Blu-ray Menu access & scenes jumping still can't compare with DVD access speed.

No need the WiFi adapter, I am setting up by cross linking to my laptop as I only have DiGi broadband access in my room.

Instruction on setting up cross linking
  • I connect my laptop (PC) via my Nexus One Portable Wi-Fi hotspot network tethering.
  • Connect the Blu-ray player using a cross network cable to my laptop.
  • Once establish connection, change your PC LAN connection from Dynamic IP to Static IP.
  • Put IP address as 192.168.0.1 on LAN TCP/IPv4 at PC.
  • PC LAN subnet mask as 255.255.255.0
  • Leave blank for the rest of the PC LAN setting.
  • Now go to the BD player network settings and choose manual IP setup.
  • Assign the BD IP as 192.168.0.2, & subnet mask as 255.255.255.0
  • Set the BD Default Gateway & DNS to 192.168.0.1
  • Now back to your PC, and tick enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in your PC Wireless Network Connection Properties as seen below.

** With above setting, you can share 3 devices connected to internet. (Nexus One, Laptop & this blu-ray player). I don't have router in my room, I never test on it, I only use cross link method. The WiFi adapter I won't ever think to purchase it, no point purchase on it as it is too costly.

I had no idea about it, the box said Region A.

I think not a problem as USA also region A, unless you online purchase region B (UK, Australia area) or region C (China, Russian area) title then I can't guarantee it playable or not.

Anyway most Blu-ray disc is region A,B & C (region free).

anyways, did you try plugging a different cable of just unplug the cable from BD andplug into a notebook and check, if you have lan connectivity?

anyone successful to link the bluray player to a laptop thru WIFI? i mean not using the samsung WIFI dongle, just connect the bluray player to a normal wireless router via network cable, and turn ON the wireless on the laptop.

if that can work, it means can save the cost of a samsung WIFI dongle (because the normal wireless router is way cheaper).

Thinking of this slightly cheaper method to setup the DLNA network at my house, in order to play movie from my laptop/smartphone to the bluray player + home theatre + Plasma TV wirelessly.......heheheheh

But first thing is the bluray player must be DLNA certified.

there may be one or two bad cases, which I agree, any product would have too, but thus far, mine is working fine. Ihave not tried any "low quality" stuff, I either buy a ori or rent to watch.

I play original also, but it is troublesome la, once you got a lot of BDs, then you notice it is sensitive and not playable in some BDs.

My hometown SONY player is great and no such issue.

Are you sure you dont have home made HD videos?

My defination of "low quality" as in poorly recorded BD-R recordable.

Samsung seems fine with manufacturer pressed BD-ROMs, BUT they sucked at recordables, even on DVD-RW. As well as DVD-R, works well with DVD+R tho.

SONY is the best in this area, perhaps because they also manufacture BD recordables as well as Full HD camcoders, so ppl can expect highest compatibility.

The ehem..ehem most 25G BD-Rs are recordables with inkjeted labels. smile.gif

Added on April 6, 2012, 12:07 amBTW, those ehem.. ehem.. 50G blu-rays aren't recordables (not BD-R DL 50G) , they are pressed disc, but they lack the security code printing aka fake products.
