Does our brain workout (if not workout more) when we are dreaming (because we are "seeing" images, u get me?)
and if so, Why is it that we woke up more relaxed after we had an REM sleep (deep sleep) compared to when we have none?

Maybe the brain disconnect from body parts in deep sleep to stop collecting and process them, hence, freeing from a huge task. Some dreams are remembered just like other memories, I can recall many of my dreams maybe recreating imagination is my job and the subconscious mind can simulate scenario that gave scientist a concocted results before actual experiment. To think is to imagine and imagine is to daydream, its a habit that lead to creative thinking without restrictions.

Dreams led us to live a life and formulate solutions, it relies on visual & knowledge input also influenced by experiences, bad experience do haunt the mind repeatedly and I alway waken by the same physical motion or the rage I felt, its an incident that changed my life 20 over years ago. While most people don't explore their dreams and can't remember most of it, whats in it does not contribute to real life but mine does because its my job as an artist, so I have more to say about it.

I also dream that I die (3 times) and cause concern of my mental wellbeing, I was a lady, a Black African also flying like superman and as god too. biggrin.gif It does not have to mean anything but it does reflect our state of mind and potential because we can pretend to be somebody but we cannot defy what made us the person we are.

Dreams are just memories and knowledge that tries to interact with each other and however illogical, it manage to fool us because we reacted with behavior than logic. Emotional expression, that is why it invoke fear or worries mostly with occasional joyous encounter which is the thing we long for. From my experience, it is the stage of falling asleep that are most useful, the half sleep that are rational.

I have spent some time wonder about the content of my dreams and cross reference with work and living, people says we don't understand ourselves we thought we do and bear regrets. It is growing up by experience but if we debate with our own conscience, we can foresee the possible outcome as expected because the probable scenarios are being concocted or simulated but rely heavily on experience.

Its natural and those who are dump don't practice as often I think and low imagination, people who over do it are dreamers and they usually work in the creative industry like me. When I realized that the so called gifted in art is false, I began to find out what gave us creativity that led to the ability to visualize and practice using tools to materialize it into products. Until 3D computer graphics came along with rendering engines and its a virtual visualizing machine, artist became god and creates artificial world, well it is the programmers who created god's tool and science is closer than god than we think.

So the brain is a dream machine and the body is the physical parts with an expected life span, Stephan Hawking lost physical connections but has a super brain that wonder about the Universe. Everyone is trying to make their dreams come true, if it not in reality, it can happen in the dream and all we need is fantasize. brows.gif

Has anyone ever tried to control what is going on in a dream, like to change its outcome? Or more simply, can you be aware that you are dreaming?

My friend did but it was that time only and it was his fear of snake, waken in the middle of the night and went back to sleep but prepared to bring torch to burn it and the dream continue part 2.

Some times he is aware he is dreaming because he felt it is not logical and I think we all do just that everything can change in split second that we may not be in the same spot, also at some point, we will begin to regain consciousness and then fall back in to sleep many times, I can sleep for 12 hours which is not normal at my age and I enjoy dreaming.

I do that to explore the last frontier of inner space, its like watching movie except I am a part of it but never able to control it because it was randomly created and how we react in those scenario is our true self, we can see who we really are and what matters the most is the result.

Getting something useful from dream is to think of what you want to do when going to sleep but you may not remember it is the problem unless you practice it like everything else. I started over 20 years ago.

I still have no control even after 20 years, its like defying nature if you try. I learn to converse in English in my thoughts and the input is from watching TV, then I try to imagine painting process that got me the job. Fantasy in controlled manner trigger self taught and derive technical solutions, then practice to perfection and made me multi disciplined not by intention but survival.

Without guidance and assistance, we don't know what to do with our ability particularly if not appreciated, people stop progressing because they stop daydreaming and movies / songs are made to spark thoughts and emotions, some dreams may cause paranoid and subject to your ideological interpretation, there should be books about it. To me, random dreams are useless and does not require rest just like the heart. Utilizing daydreaming ability can aid problem solving by foreseeing in the mind, the worse case scenario and the probable outcome people usually try to avoid and panic when it happen.

So, is it still dreaming when you are aware of it? I found that I become very tired the next day when I have such dreams at night. It is as if I did not sleep.

Here is my theory. We usually wake up with some kind of dreams that we soon forget. So, rem sleep may be our waking up mechanism, sort of an indication that we have had enough sleep. If we are aware, we may not be dreaming anymore. And so, if we refuse to wake up, it starts costing us energy..?

Exhaustion is probably due to the content and number of times we dream at one go, a light sleeper such as myself often waken a few times change sleeping pose and dream again and again but I used to have longer consecutive dreams when I was young. The amount of chemical signal reduces when we age, hence sleep duration shorten, also notice old people usually need afternoon nap and sleeping hour splits into two parts.

Yeah, Inception. If you can't wakeup, you will be in coma, a few do wakeup after many years, imagine if you are trapped in your own dream forever in fantasy land.

The first part is movie, the second part refer to coma patients that did woke up but no follow up news about them. It was from TV news report, the chemical that cause paralysis and disconnect the brain from body parts will worn out naturally, if you are forced to wake up in the middle of sleeping, the brain will still reconnect but disoriented for a while.

Of cause I am not qualify to speak like a doctor, in case of accident, the patient should not fall asleep particularly if bleeding, so sleeping can be fatal. I've learned that breathing could stop or interrupted during sleeping from radio doctor and have experienced it myself, waken by a long inhalation and most evident if you snore. There are news of healthy people die in their sleep but no medical alert about what caused it, i think only people who enjoy dreaming / sleeping would keep track of such a thing or dream content.

Dreams can be something mysterious and unknown for it's validity.

I used to make fun of dreams since most of the time I keep getting insane, humorous dreams which lead to no where. Keep on with life as nothing happens after dreaming such petty things.

someday I dream of my family members passed away. I'm shocked but as usual I'm leaving it be like normal days. A while later the family member left this world.

suddenly feeling like... dream comes true? or coincidence? That's the most mysterious thing I experienced with dreams.

Such dreams is not uncommon, its both probability, coincident and chances. I have this kind of experience that make me aware of the term premonition. The indirect information we obtain unintentionally sometimes is enough to simulate the results, maybe we are unwilling to acknowledge these signs and it appear in dreams.

When you watch movie, sometimes you can guess what is going to happen next is how predictable and expectable things can be. When you read and post in this forum, you expect the respond or hope to be surprised? I am expecting someone to take it further and yours is it and I am waiting for more people to share before I tell my shocking experience, it involved my father inlaw who died. How? Tell me a bizarre story and I shall reveal mine.

How many guys here you think have recollections of their dreams, if you can dream of the exact thing that happen, you must be a saint and should try to dream about winning lottery and see if it will come true. The time when your conscience tells you that you are dreaming is you already half waken and likely to fall back into sleeping again. You may not be who you think you are in a dream, that is the uniqueness of the term dream and people can make up creative stories because only god knows.

Uncontrolled dreams usually don't make sense, until similar occurrence happen in reality, you might thought it was a sign from god or the one who passed away. We attain self realization from dreams, all that we have been through will came in dreams and its how powerful the brain is, look at the way you type and it show how lightly you take this matter.

A person can tell that he or she is dreaming. Yes, this is not impossible. If I'm not mistaken, this is what lucid dreaming is all about.

i actually remember a fair bit of my dreams upon waking up, has been that way since i was a kid. sometimes before i drift of to sleep i will remember bit and pieces of the dreams i dreamt last night. i always thought it was because my consciousness was sinking down to sleep state and therefore reconnecting with the unconscious...or something like that laugh.gif

Sleep is for the physical body, the brain is like the heart that never stop recording and creating realms, memory is known to store as shapes, the computer has this human characteristics of short & long term memory, software too behave like us. Windows is user friendly following this algorithm,
the processing behavior of the sober brain.

We forgot because the memory shape lost, it is either not important or damaged, if you recall your dreams or memories often, they remains and maintained. We need control when awake but lost in ourselves in sleep, only part of our conscience are intact, if you know you are dreaming, I don't call it a dream, its you fooling yourself. In reality, we do fool ourselves to feel better, assume tomorrow will be better to believe in something whether they exist or not.

"Living lives as it is" is no dream and we could become extreme by chasing dreams.
