Most 4k TV have very good upscaller build in. Even 480p videos looks not bad.

I dont see any problems playing 1080p for normal eyes, unless your eye is like straight up imbalance to the point can see the image softness.

Of course there is no denying due to upscale there is a degree of softness apply, but to me it is very minimal (i only notice more of it at 480p videos)

In general Samsung seems to have one of the better up scale tech (i notice LG is more soft, but maybe that's just the IPS Panel)

Sony upscaller is not bad as well. I didnt try other brands like Hi Sense though.

Thanks for your quick and thorough answer. PLanning to get a bigger tv , not looking for smart tv since i have android box ready but then i see 4k and fhd tvs are almost similarly priced so i thought may as well go for 4k. My concern is whether these 4k tv would make those lower quality videos look bad but if the difference is minimal and not something like washed out quality that'll be great. I guess il just have to invest on a proper 4k tv and not the lower end type. Any recommendation from samsung brand? looking for size 45-50" If it's only FHD, that would be fine too as long as it's good quality.

Budget not mentioned smile.gif

If you want cheap and good, for Samsung any of the 6 series will suffice

(MU6xxx, KU6xxx)

Technically I assume since you're primary media consumption is like 720p and 1080p, probably guessing streaming / downloads of Movies and TV series as well as maybe Astro?

You can also go shop to eyeball a few other equivalent models from other brands.

I would recommend Harvey Norman just to eyeball (but don't buy from them unless got good discount, evil customer here hahaha)

haha yeah mostly is just streaming now, want to save space tongue.gif Alright thanks will go survey. Yep, outside electronics cannot buy one , the price tag always end with "999 lol

55" will sufficient enough for your content. Samsung series 6 and LG new model 2017 for budget 4k TV.

How about 49"? i'm eyeing on the UA49MU6100. It is within my budget as well and most of all it is non curved. Not a fan of curved display

Been using TV with mainly for 480p/720p/1080p with Samsung 55" KU6000...

Liking and and no such issue cool2.gif

Tempting hmm.gif did you buy online? from what i see very limited online seller offer extended warranty, those that does, the price is same as market and extended warranty is like 400++. Though I think standard 2 years is sufficient considering samsung a high end brand, itll be rarely to catch any problem

My friend experience 2-3times broke in a year... Repair took a month+ each
But Sony dont have bluetooth and is just an internet tv.. worth it?
*
That's unlucky..does your friend spend a lot of hours on the tv daily? i have an old hd samsung tv that still running well for 5 years+ now except for the speakers ,distorts at high volume. My family dont watch tv daily anyway they spend mostly 2-4 hours in front tv. More hours on pc monitor lol.

That would be a matter of personal preference. Some notice significant differences, others can't even tell when 1080p or 4k content is being played.. tongue.gif

Thanks

SA told me MU6100 this year was made from IPS panel, and we tested using finger some more and it seems true... last year model KU6100 is made of VA panel?

From where did the SA got the info that MU6100 is IPS panel? This is almost impossible because Samsung doesn't produce IPS panel and they will have to buy panel from LG, their largest competitor.
Yes, viewing angle is definitely better on IPS and IPS pixel level response time is faster, so less motion blur for sports and fast moving scenes. Also the non black color reproduction is better as well, check out those LG SUHD TV with 10bits panel, the color is just impressive. The biggest problem for IPS is contrast, if you will watch the TV in dark room like bedroom at night, don't buy IPS TV, the black is bad with light bleed. But for large well lit living room, the IPS TV can produce quite good picture even watching from side.

I find IPS color reproduction abit less spot on than VA Panel though. Might be my eye problem hahaha.

But yes Contrast is the biggest difference I can see.

I find IPS Panel best suited for smaller screen (like 23 inch monitor, or handheld screen) while VA is more suited for beyond 55 inch. (but that's just my bias, and maybe i'm just spoiled by KS7000 VA panel)

Of course, OLED is another breed altogether XD.

Nice info so VA panel is overall better. So no significant difference between 2016-2017 models then for uhd?

Just bought an UA65MU6100, waiting the shop sending to my house tomorrow. Price RM4999, donno is good deal or not.

Quite excited eventough it is a basic 4k tv(Currently using toshiba 40inch five years already, for sizewise, really a big different). First time buying basic 4k samsung tv, hopefully it can serve me at least few years time lahhh..

At first considering Panasonic EX600K 65inch,best price RM5575. But it dont have bluetooth function, expensive than MU6100, for picture quality i cant really see major difference, so at last i bought MU6100.

Will share more once received the TV tomorrow. Thanks

which shop? warranty 2 years? I plan to get the 55" after moving into a new place next month.Probably buy it online. Did you see how much they sell for the 55"?
