Hey guys,

Kinda stuck between two 65" models:
KS7500
MU7000

I gather the former is better than the latter. Ideally I'd prefer flat rather than curved, but given these two choice, which out do you think I should go for (and why).
Thanks!

p.s. I dont think I can get any of the 65" KS7000 models anywhere right?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys..
I'm concerned about HDR10+ compatibility. I gather Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision, so that's out. But given that KS7500 is a 2016 TV, does it lose out to MU7000 in terms of HDR10? (both are 65" tvs btw)?

HDR10+ is in a very weird situation now.

It is assumed 2016 SUHD TV will get HDR10+ capability via Firmware update, *however* where the HDR10+ is limited to in app support or also via HDMI inputs is subject to much debate and heated discussion.

There is no confirmation in regards to HDR10+ via HDMI hardware support update for 2016 SUHD, and even the 2017 QLED/Premium UHD range.

All that is confirmed that in-app will get HDR10+ update in an unspecified time frame due to Amazon Prime and Samsung partnership in pushing for HDR10+ support.

And yes there will be no Dolby Vision, Samsung don't want to pay Dolby royalty tongue.gif

Oh, I just googled and read the reddit stuff.Seems like there isn't a certainty on anything. If we look purely at making $, unlikely Samsung will wanna support the HDR10+ on the older 2016 SUHD models. 2017 QLED models, probably la, given its exorbitant prices.

What do you guys thnk about Samsung's KS7500 vs LG SJ850t?

Seems like the latter is bout RM 700 pricier & supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision vs KS7500. However, the LG has a 10 bit panel, which means Dolby Vision won't work 100% right ,
since it needs a 12 bit panel? People seem to speak highly of KS7500's capabilities/performance as well.

I can't seem to find a good comparison between these two models wrt to HDR support, nits performance, gaming capabilities etc. Seems like rtings skipped this Samsung model.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

KS7500 = KS8500, rtings got review on this model. Seem like its picture better than SJ850t.

wow, if this is the case, then it seems much better than the LG's one. But LG's one supposed to have more tech/and a higher series (8 vs 7) hmm.gif

KS7500 is a very nice TV from last year, however not everyone like the curved screen, I'm one of those. However, it doesn't mean that the LG is not good. Overall the features and technology behind the LG is more superior, Nanocell is as superior as the Qled and Dolby Vision is included. The WebOS is one of the best smart TV OS. It is a battle between VA and IPS panel, VA will win as picture quality is always related to native contrast and VA panel come with much higher contrast and it is easier to boost higher brightness without worrying too much about light bleed issue. This is required for HDR10 at 1000 nits brightness. Color from the KS7500 is attractive but it is actually a little over saturated, if you like more natural colors, it will be the LG. Between the 2 most peoples will take the Samsung, except those who don't like the curved screen.

Thanks guys, but regarding Dolby Vision - the LG's panel is only 10 bit, how does that jive with DVision's 12bit specs? Feels like it can't show DV media in its true glory...

Oh, btw anyone knows how the 2+3 or 2+2 warranty works? If there are no parts after 4 yrs, do we get a TV of the same value we paid when we bought it, or a depreciated value? I see 11street selling with warranty options, but no info on what the warranty covers...

Dolby uses 12-bit color depth for cinematic Dolby Vision content to avoid any noticeable banding but the format is agnostic to different color depths and works with 10-bit video or panel as well. In fact, Dolby recommends 10-bit color depth for broadcast.

Dolby Vision is designed as an end-to-end HDR process. So from capture through processing and into production, Dolby Vision is designed to preserve information that was originally captured and pass it on. The aim is to give you an HDR experience that's closer to the original by supplying more information. It also tells the display device how bright it should be, rather than provide one value as HDR10 does which stay static, and it can do this for every frame. The idea is that it allows creators to ensure that what you're seeing is what they intended. There is no 12bit TV panel that you can buy now, not even the OLED from LG, but you will get all the benefits or advantage of Dolby Vision even on a 10bit panel.
I think it depends on the sellers, some sellers provide 2+3 that fully covered by the manufacturer over the 5 years with onsite support. The cost for the +3 years they claim back from insurance.

Thanks Ivan, Haruji.

I think I too am used to Samsung's over-saturated colors since I'm used to the AMOLED screens as well. I do find LG's colors to be a little washed up, even on their higher & non-OLED models.

Ivan, when you say benefits/advantages of DV on a 10-bit panel, is it significantly different from HDR10?
I was previously under the impression that DV's primary advantage is its additional colors, which isnt overtly noticeable, but shows much improvements in 12-bit panel (vs HDR10).

The biggest difference in HDR10 VS DV would actually be the dynamic meta data which actually data encoded in the video signal to tell the TV for this scene, what kind of color/brightness/etc the TV should display, while HDR 10 is static. HDR 10 will give instruction to the TV at the beginning of the video, and the data would carry out throughout the whole video.

I read a bit on this today, and I do see the difference now, thanks for the insights & explanation!

I purchased the KS7500 earlier today. The LG looked nice and somehow appeared bigger (there was a demo set), but budget-wise, KS7500 was significantly cheaper. Any tips on what I should look out for when the TV arrives tomorrow? Any configuration/setting I need to check to ensure no issues with the TV & its indeed a new set and not a display set tongue.gif

Thanks!

Download TV/Monitor screen test files to check for damage.. See if you can get into the service menu to check how much time it has spent switched on. Once satisfied no defects, switch to Movie mode and calibrate as best as you can.

Sorry, noob here..
"Download TV/Monitor screen test" <--- is this something from Tizen's appstore?

Thanks man. Guys, how do you access the service menu using the new remote..it seems like there is a combination with "Settings" button, "Info" button etc, but these buttons aren't present in the new remote. Is there a different combo for this remote?

Well most Samsung remote will work (I have a Samsung TV from 8 years ago and still work with KS7000). So you just have to procure it somehow haha.

Other remote that might work will be Samsung BluRay players that has a TV button on it. (my samsung HT remote also works with KS7000)

IINM if your phone has an IR Blaster, you can also access the service menu through it.

You can also mirror your phone to the TV, and run those LCD tester software, usually cycling between Gradient, White, Black, Red, Blue, Green full screen image to check for any weird or huge ass pixel death.

Unfortunately only my old Note 3 had a blaster, but I dont have that phone anymore.
But dad has an old remote @ home, so I'mma take that and use.

Tested the TV this weekend @ streaming movies. They were super clear and nice (a bit too bright sometimes), but occasionally faced disconnection issues from home's network. Like 4~5 times in a 2hr movie. Wondering what was that about. HDR (tested with Rogue One) was AWESOME. The detailing @ ships & robots were soo good!

Btw, any means of stretching the pic to fill an entire screen - without distorting it too much? The top & bottom black bars are quite annoying!
