I suggest you only buy a HDR TV only when necessary. Better wait until your old TV needs to be replaced then buy. If you are buying because of the hype, then you might be disappointed.
Even the current 8 bit colour TVs contents today are still not fully utilising the available colour range. Currently due to the push by manufacturers, we are seeing more contents in 10bits HDR (Real of Fake).
But in time , I suspect the hype will die down, and slowly the contents will remain mostly 8 bit color.
Here's a sample from youtube 4K HDR demo. Even your old 8 bit non-HDR TV will be able see how colourful the images are, even though you won't be getting true HDR or 4K (depending on your line speed).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TehmBX0V7hUMy point is even with 8 bit TV, the images look fantastic so is HDR really that big a step forward as we are led to believe? I know HDR is more than just colour range, it's about Brightness too, but such scenes only happens sparingly.
