hi peeps. i want to know how do you all bf mommies go out. i mean for example, when u go out for shopping, do u need to familiarise where the bf toilets are in each shopping centres? another example, if u go to a dinner function n u bring bb along, how do u feed? do u all go out with ebm to feed bb in case there's no place to bf? (eg, i dont know where to bf in pavilion or midvally gardens, am thinking whether its possible to bring ebm out).

Kittybunny...first time I brought ebm out (frozen) but it's a hassle. Then I made sure that I go to places with bf rooms. In pavilion...on every floor...near the toilet..there's a baby room. At the baby room there's a sofa for u to bf..with a curtain to draw to. In gardens...go to Isetan..kids floor..there's a nursery with bf rooms.

Alternatively learn to bf in public..of coz cover with a big shawl.

If I go out for dinner in a restaurant..I make sure that I find a place in the corner..so If I want to bf..I just face the corner/ wall..and bf using the shawl to cover.

The reason I ask is because my bb tends to snack sometimes, it may take up to 40 mins before she appears to be full. I'm just worried tht i'll leave the bb room thnking she's full and 15 mins later she wants to drink again.

My BB is 5 weeks old and i've tried to nurse for the first time in a bb room in 1u... i really wonder why they put the dustbin right next to the sofa as i was smelling smelly poop all the time while nursing bb and ohhhhh the smell! pooohhhh! its the formula milk poop smell! hehehehe.

For me..I managed to pump according to the amount my son drinks...I don't produce much..just ngam ngam.

1 month: 1-2 oz per session (the most is 3 oz once a blue moon)
2 Months: 2-3 oz per session
3 months: 4oz +

Pythia, I also produce just ngam, no extra to
pump... even confinment lady laugh about this sad.gif The reason I'm asking cause I am not too sure whether bb drinks more in each feed as they grow, and feeding intervals gets longer cause they drank more.

.... and also not sure whether we need to pump as per bb's drinking schedule - eg bb drinks every 2 hrs, i should pump every 2 hrs ro avoid engorgement.

.... and also not sure whether they drink more or less the same amt as formula.

All these questions are to help me to prepare myself for work! I'm just worried tht I'll have less milk when I start work.

Hi Kittybunny,

Formula babies milk intake increases as they grow. However exclusive breastfed babies milk intake stay pretty much the same and they don't consume as much (in volume) of the breast milk if you compare with babies on formula.

My baby's only drinks about 70 - 120 ml of EBM, max is 180ml (very seldom). My friends babies who are the same age as my son drink like 240 ml of formula. So to answer your question, they do not drink the same volume as formula smile.gif

You should pump as per baby's drinking schedule (if baby not latching), like every 2 - 3 hours to keep up the milk production. Try not to skip the pumping session as it will send signal to your brain to slow down milk production.

Just some tips with pumping, you should pump and drain BOTH BREASTS, PLUS extra 5-10 minutes eventhough nothing comes out.
the extra 5-10 minutes will signal your breasts that you need higher production.

Pump more often (not longer) if you are losing volume. Five, 10-15 minute sessions are better than two, 25 minute sessions.

Good luck smile.gif

Thanks vic!

Another question, where to buy dry ice in kl? i'm forward planning to transport my frozen ebm from my house to my mom's house. I still want to keep them frozen in my mom's place so that there's stock when i go back to work smile.gif

Nickit, I've been breast feeding since November. Exclusive from her day of birth for almost two weeks, then she had colic (fussy the whole dayand very bad crying in the evening till night) and I had low milk supply (there was nothing when I tried to express) so i chose to feed her formula .... And from there on, the confinement lady continued giving her formula at night no matter how much I begged I wanted to bf her at night. Eventually it turned from 3 formula feeds at night to 1 feed and since confinement lady left last month, I could bf her exclusively. Her poop is consistently mustard in colour, yeay! smile.gif

Now that I'm in my MIL's place, yesterday she just started crying very badly again in the evening, and it's not as intense as the episode where I had to feed her formula, and this time she only cried in the late evening and does not last till night time. Its just a milder version... But my MIL keep saying "my friend says bf babies gets a lot of wind in their stomach, they get very bad stomach pain." Seriously, I know she means well and when I tried to explain that bottle fed babies get more wind than direct latch babies, she kept saying "my friend says my friend says..." it does get stressful leh. Stress from trying to handle a screaming baby, maintain a calm mind and trying to handle MIL's worries.

Peeps, do any of your baby have colic? how do you deal with it? I'm a first time mother, and with the comments I get, I seriously doubt myself as a mother ... I don't know when I should send my baby to see the doctor, cause she only cried in the evening, and now she's sleeping. At what point of her crying should I see a doctor?
