QUOTE(phythia79 @ Dec 1 2011, 12:47 PM) 1) milk from both breast can mix together agreed as i did the same. 2) It's best to consume all after heating up as it's not advisable to refreeze again. Due to our heat..the most it can stand is about 1 hr. My advise if you are storing EBM. Try storing smaller quantity first ie...1 or 2 oz per bottle. Then you only need to reheat the amount that your baby drinks. Eg...your wife pumps 6 oz per session. if your baby normally drinks 3 oz per feed, then it's best to store 1 oz or 2 oz per bottle. In case your baby want's more than 3 oz..then you just reheat the other 1 oz....something like that..so that the EBM isn't wasted. |

QUOTE(kittybunny @ Jan 10 2012, 08:51 PM) Nickit, I've been breast feeding since November. Exclusive from her day of birth for almost two weeks, then she had colic (fussy the whole dayand very bad crying in the evening till night) and I had low milk supply (there was nothing when I tried to express) so i chose to feed her formula .... And from there on, the confinement lady continued giving her formula at night no matter how much I begged I wanted to bf her at night. Eventually it turned from 3 formula feeds at night to 1 feed and since confinement lady left last month, I could bf her exclusively. Her poop is consistently mustard in colour, yeay! i breastfed my girl but it was bottle-fed (i pump exclusively) and my girl did have colic as well and lasted for nearly 4 months. Now that I'm in my MIL's place, yesterday she just started crying very badly again in the evening, and it's not as intense as the episode where I had to feed her formula, and this time she only cried in the late evening and does not last till night time. Its just a milder version... But my MIL keep saying "my friend says bf babies gets a lot of wind in their stomach, they get very bad stomach pain." Seriously, I know she means well and when I tried to explain that bottle fed babies get more wind than direct latch babies, she kept saying "my friend says my friend says..." it does get stressful leh. Stress from trying to handle a screaming baby, maintain a calm mind and trying to handle MIL's worries. Peeps, do any of your baby have colic? how do you deal with it? I'm a first time mother, and with the comments I get, I seriously doubt myself as a mother ... I don't know when I should send my baby to see the doctor, cause she only cried in the evening, and now she's sleeping. At what point of her crying should I see a doctor? 1. put your baby on tummy (face down) in order to let the gas out 2. burp your baby well after each feed 3. if breastfeed, let the baby latch on directly instead of bottle feed as latch on directly will reduce the colic 4. if baby still cry, try to swaddle him/her. give him/her comfort 5. carry baby to your right side and listen to your heart. i read somewhere that it really will comfort the baby as she used to listen when she was inside you. 6. some says put baby on the car and go for ride may comfort the baby as well. (i read from somewhere) hope this helps. |

QUOTE(feralee @ Jan 31 2012, 09:35 PM) ok ok yea..thats why most of the people suggest to wear washable diapers (those traditional kain lampin) for the first two months as baby will poo poo very frequently. or else, buy cheaper disposable diapers..not necessary mamypoko. but mamypoko is good for night sleep use. pity my wife need to change diapers everytime after BF really? tot after 23 jan is dragon year... |

QUOTE(Syd G @ Apr 9 2012, 12:16 PM) Top tip for more breast milk - dont think about losing weight just yet - just eat a lot and drink a lot!! agree agree...eat and drink more. you will eventually lose weight after two months. no worries. You'll lose weight a lot faster when you breastfeed more increase pumping session, does not matter if one pumping session only give u one oz. pump every two hours to establish the milk flow. dont give up!!! |

QUOTE(dare2join @ Jul 31 2012, 03:21 PM) wondering if any mum here still manage to provide breastmilk in long distance, eg: baby in ipoh, but mum working in KL, travel from KL back to Ipoh every weekend. it is possible. Is it possible to make it? I have been breastfeeding (breastfeed and pump out as express milk) to my baby boy for 2 mths. Now that I have to be back to KL after my maternity leave. I hope to provide breast milk to my baby as much as I could. Could anyone share any experience? I heard of a case, mummy working in SG, and back every weekend to Melaka just to transport the breastmilk for her baby. What I can say is, it is all depends on mummy's determination, want or don't want. All the best! |

QUOTE(dare2join @ Aug 2 2012, 11:10 AM) But in this case, how they transfer the breast milk in long distance? you can keep your breastmilk in cooler box to transport back. Doctor told me to freeze it and travel in ice pack. But is it really still able to keep the freshness of the breast milk? I heard all in theory, would like to know if anyone really practice this or do this before? and yup..ur doctor is correct. freeze and with ice pack. of course it is not as fresh as direct latch. but it is still better than formula milk. i do pump in office and transport back home. i travel one hour to work everyday. once reach home, immediately keep in the fridge. breastmilk keep in deep freezer can keep for about 6 months. |

QUOTE(flowerhorn @ Aug 7 2012, 11:49 PM) My wife initially had no milk as well. The first few days of pumping led to nothing despite latching on the baby. On the third day I had to buy formula milk as my baby was getting restless on the third day. She kept trying, kept letting the baby to suck, even if more than an hour then follow by pumping for at least 10 mins even if there is no milk. Her pumping session can go up to 45mins... Yielding only 0.5oz at first and slowly became more. Every 2 hours she will pump even throughout the night... Finally baby is fully breastfeed by end of second week. She maintained that kind of schedule for 2 months to ensure supply is consistent. thanks for sharing your wife successful story. Now we have to buy a 250L chest freezer to store the milk... Dont give up and Good luck Added on August 8, 2012, 12:00 am I bought the fridge to go. It's good when fully recharge in the freezer. Practically I think its good for 4-6 hours only although the tests claim up to 9 hours. My wife uses it just for transportation from office to home. If you are expressing in office you still need a fridge. If one is not available then a bulky Coleman filled with ice packs is the next best thing. me too. dont give up. me too, pump throughout the nite. wake up midnite to pump. no choice, but i know im doing for the sake of my baby. for the first two months, i was really like a moo moo...my job is pump and pump and pump and store. although my MIL got sound me a bit because i occupy her freezer.. im staying with my in law and another two nieces just kena HMFD two days ago. QUOTE(dare2join @ Aug 8 2012, 06:15 PM) oh, almost same like what I was doing and what I plan to do now..I have been pumping my breast milk for my son since 1st mth. Now that my maternity leave is going to end soon and I am thinking a way to provide breast milk to my son. But both my in law seems like don't really support this as they said breast milk unable to keep my baby full and he will cry more frequent requesting for milk. Understand the difficulties since in law are both quite old and formula milk will be more convenient for them. Thus, the only best way if to provide breast milk only when I am back to Ipoh during weekend and public holiday. I will pump and feed my baby by myself, so eliminate all the inconveniences claimed by my in law... i more mean than you. i was so afraid that my mil feed my girl with FM. i quickly return back all 4 tins of FM back to the store. slowly, my mil also get use to it. at first, a bit troublesome for her, yes. coz u have to estimate baby's feeding time and take out from fridge probably one to half hour earlier to warm. sometimes, warm to hot, sometimes, too cold. but does not matter. learn from experience. and soon, you will adapt to it. my mil said my girl took the MOST breastmilk among all her grandchildren. even she breasfed longest was 6 months. But, still thinking how much the breast milk helps in this way? My baby will only have breast milk during weekend but not everyday. I feel a big waste during weekday when I pump out the milk and just have to pour it away. It suppose to be so precious, but I have to pour it away.. please do not think how much BM helps even though u only let your baby takes during weekend. just provide as much as u can, and as long as you can. for the excess...u actually can use to make soap. but i duno how la. hehe..or else u may donate. there are mummies looking for BM for their babies. |

QUOTE(luvjim @ Aug 9 2012, 05:36 PM) Hi all, read some of the post here and really learn something...I have yet read about breastfeeding even I'm gonna deliver this coming Nov. welcome to our breastfeeding group! What's worry me now is, how do I able to breastfeed my baby if I have sensitive nipple? Something like feel 'geli'. Direct feed baby with breast milk is call latching? Sorry, really don't know the terms. yes. direct feed means latching. u try to direct feed first. if really feel geli or what, then use breastpump lor. |
