Congrats dear! I am also a new mother of a 1.5 month baby girl.

To increase your milk suppy, try fenugreek seeds. It guarantees an increase in milk supply. Put in a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds into a glass of warm water and then drink the water - twice daily. You can choose to chew on the seeds, even if you dont want it it's fine. You can google this method  to see for yourself - I tried it twice and had an increase of milk flow.

The other option is to put warm towel near your boobs for a few minutes.

You could always breastfeed your baby first for about 20 minutes, and if he's still hungry then you supplement him with formula - 3oz or less.

Wanna ask where can I get the fenugreek seeds?

I am also a new mom who is struggling over BF my baby and I can tell u it is not easy. Only husband supporting the idea of BF but he is most of the time at work. MIL and grand MIL can't stand BB crying because lack of feed and usually tell that it is better to give formula milk.

Also I actually truly hope that there's prove of studies over the necessities of confinement as it really cause me headaches while I am struggling to BF my baby. I was forbid to bath, I felt dirty and sometimes not in mood to BF my baby. Also I am forbid to drink water, I can only drink water with red dates, brown sugar and ginger (I think this is one of the reason of low breast milk). I can only take herbal/gingered food which I really dislike the taste, and often force myself to eat, and it really kills my appetite (another factor)...Also my MIL/GMIL keeps giving BB water even I told them not to. I feel depressed every time I think of it. Now I hardly speak to my MIL if it is not necessary even though we appeared normal towards each other but deep down I know we can't get along well, usually we don't have any eye contacts. Sigh, so sad things has to be this way...I bet they think I am the most defiant DIL that doesn't want to follow the way of the elderly...Now my BB mostly on formula milk even though I am still struggling and hanging on to the idea of BF...but my milk supply is low...Baby only poops once now that he is on formula milk and always cries when he is pooping, felt so heart broken...and self blaming and depressed...

Therefore, for all the new moms out there I think the most important thing for a successful BF is knowledge, technique, supporter, determination...

So, can anyone tell me where to get the fenugreek seed?

Thanks guys for the support and hugs, I really need it, struggling alone is not easy. I have shown them the evidence but unfortunately it's useless as they think they have raised kids and has more experience...

I am not blaming or anything but I downright think that confinement (not all but one such as mine) is a hinder in BF, sad... cry.gif

Nevertheless, I will try my best to hang on for my boy smile.gif

You do quiet-quiet also can.

Cath,
My confinement was 2 months of almost pure hell. I'd rather be pregnant many2 times than to go through confinements again brows.gif.

Yup, I think I nearly went crazy...they will usually psych me out saying next time u will know bla bla bla...but to think of it, it never has any evidence to the benefit.

I read through the posts in this thread and there is a mention about eating cabbage...if my grand MIL knew I eat cabbage, I think she will kill me as she has bad mouthed about cabbage for the past few weeks like a rewind tape saying it caused her to get 'wind' last time etc...

Hmmm, not to blame them and all but they should at least be more understanding...and at least show more support in BF biggrin.gif

Added on July 5, 2012, 12:04 amHey guys, after all the discussion, I chased my hubby to buy the fenugreek seeds pill from pharmacy...and took it after meal... surprisingly when I try to feed my BB just now, the milk just started to drip. Previously hardly squeeze any...and BB fall asleep right after BF...amazingly sweet! rclxms.gif

I couldn't believe the effect was so fast...but we will see how thing goes nod.gif *fingers crossed* laugh.gif

Thanks laughiebean!

Now that the breast milk is increasing slowly. I have another question for BF mommies...How to keep baby awake during BF. My baby loves to doze off during BF. I tried changing sides and burp him but still unable to keep him awake. He will usually suck in the beginning then slowing down later on and when he is on BF, he will usually keeps his eye closed...

In contrary, when he is on bottle feed, he will be very alert, eyes wide open and in rush to finish the milk in the bottle...

I planned to EBM for him but do u have any suggestions/methods to keep baby awake/alert while on BF?

And also is there any way to increase the quality of breast milk?

I found out lately online a list about foods that will help to boost BM, I have yet to try all but here are some of them:

Soy milk
fenugreek seed (available in pills, can get from GNC, pharmacy)
stinging nettle
Fennel seed
Garlic
Carrot
Pearl barley
Oatmeal
nuts

And also stimulate by letting baby suck as frequent as possible especially during midnight 12am to 6am as that's the time when the prolactin level is the highest...

I wish I knew more of this before...
nevertheless I am still trying my best to BF my baby. I wish everyone the best and remember: stay positive, get advice in LYN BF support group and last but not least don't gave in to MIL tongue.gif
