My wife has been breastfeeding for about a few days on our week old baby. ( she missed the first day due to effects of GA as emergency csec has to be performed, in which during that time the nurses has fed our baby with formula milk). She wanted to pump out some milk so that our parents can still continue to feed her when she's not around (like she go for a routine obgyn checkup).

She tried pumping for about 5 minutes but no milk is being expressed. Hand express yielded some milk, but the process is too slow, (30 mins for less than 10ml of milk).

Is it too early to pump? She's using Phillips Avent Comfort eletric pump, the purple one.

just take note of the area below his chin, if there are "Swallowing" movement means he's latching on correctly.

Anyway if its not correctly done, your baby will either cry and be frustrated, or your wife will have sore nipples.

Most BF wont have sound, remember your baby is still a baby, his strength is not strong until you can hear his swallowing movements.

Thx snow fish for the reply, yes, he is sucking correctly, swallowing good, just that we hear the inhaling sound..;(
*
Oh inhaling sound is perfectly normal. Because the baby is still weak and he tried so hard to suck, sometimes he had to stop to catch his breath thus the inhaling sound. Don't need to worry about the baby not able to breath. you should just be concern with latching. The moment he opens his mouth, shove the baby into the mommy's breast.

Hi Mums and Dads, my son now 2 months plus and we haven't start any bottle feeding since I have 4 months maternity.
but last 2 days he start to cry during I start to do the latching, we start to divert him make him clam and retry it again but he refuse again. we tried few round of latching and he manage he suck 3-5min.
why he suddenly become like that, until he so fear to latch on?
did you all got some experience on this?
*
When he cry, does he shake his head frantically? If he does, what could be happening is a over-let down of milk, meaning he's sucking in more milk than he can handle.

Try to let him latch on, with u leaned backwards more (so baby is on top of u, let gravity to help pull your milk flow away from him). That way the milk flow is reduced.

Hi all,

I just want to share our currently 8 weeks experience of being a parent especially my wife who chose to be a Fully Breast Feeding Mom. I am very happy with her decision and believe she is too because we know that we provide the best nutrition diet to our baby.

Now, after 8 weeks, we have kept a total number of 45 Expressed Breast Milk (EBM) in storage bottle and 20 in storage bags which total up the EBM volume of roughly 250 oz just in space of 7 weeks. She starts expressing her breast in the 2nd week. And that does not count the amount of BM that she manage to feed the my daughter directly and also several other EBM that we have used on several occasions.

user posted image

What is surprising, even during this fasting month, she still manages to maintain her production and she has not left her fasting day for once since day one. And she looks just as fit as other normal fasting person.

user posted image

The, reason behind this is because, she have been consistently taking supplements and energy drink to keep her body fit and fresh throughout the day and also boosting her breastmilk production.

I am currently act as her PA to make sure she take the supplements besides supporting her in many ways because this is part of a husband's/father's role in a way to make sure the Fully Breastfeed of the baby will be successful in the next 2 years period.

I think that is all I could share at current time and I will update more if there are any informative thing we can share.

You guys are welcome to comment if you guys have similar experience to share with.

Another big factor is I think your wife did Natural delivery, and also she manage to BF her baby within the first 6 hours (colostrum feed) right? Most mothers I know who manage to do that is off to a good start, those who did LSCS are less fortunate though.

Anyway both of u are doing a great job, too bad my wife can't take your recommended supplements. Breastfeeding is definitely not an easy road taken.

duno where to rant - just want to rant out.

i am fully breastfeeding my baby for 10.5 months. yes, it is a proud achievement. however, my sil who is currently pregnant, who doesnt educate herself about breastfeeding but just "hope" that she will have alot of milk to bf her future baby, said "you still got milk ah?" (and she is asking me tis since day 1) i really duno how to respond but feel so offended about it (even though i should be proud). then she start asking nonsense like wat i nit to boil to get milk...etc. she's thinking "it is so easy to fully bf a baby" without thinking how much effort put in... mad.gif

i know i should encourage people to bf their babies..... mad.gif  but seeing her attitude i dam hate it and cannot stand it....i dun even wan to bother talking to her about bf-ing. vmad.gif

maybe she have approached you wrongly, but i do agree with you breastfeeding was never an easy path to begin with, espec with those that had LSCS.

nutrition is important do be careful with your diet espec those herbs that comes with confinement food. Some herbs actually reduce milk production.

Hi,

I'm now BF-ing a 9 weeks old baby. I'm experiencing overactive let-down reflex and my baby got choke and cough quite often. I tried to change nursing position and letting extra milk to spray or drip on towel while BF. It seems like working. Any mom encounter this matter? Mind to share the ways to avoid choking and coughing?

Will a baby confuse or refuse to BF after fed with bottle? Going back to work soon. Wondering is it time to introduce bottle to my baby.
*
So far my baby use Avent natural bottle...so far baby can both bottle and breastfeed... cuz the teat for natural bottle requires the baby to use the same motion as breastfeeding. However if you intend to continue BF, do stick to newborn / 0 month teats even though your baby age is more than 1 month old. This is so that the baby doesnt think sucking from a bottle is better.

As for over let down, try position your baby on top of you, and you lying down so that gravity can help reduce the flow of the milk. You might need help with this though espec if your baby is heavy.

guys,....
need some serious opinion...
my daughter has been BF-ing for the past 1 week...
when we are BF-ing her around 12am, she will drag the process to 3hrs minimum everyday.. is it normal?
btw my daughter 25th OCT 2013 born.. 2week baby...
*
its normal....sometimes baby have growth spurts and sometimes they will sleep longer....usually they will feed 2-3 hours everyday, might stretch longer during night time once she get her body clock right.

Just measure number of wet diapers everyday if u want to check if she's feeding enough. should be around 5-7 disposable diapers a day.

her diaper minimum 6-7 time daily sometimes can reach 8times..
cause i asked few of my relatives & friends that has just gave birth few months ago, almost every people tells me that BF-ing maximum 40min...

just curious will my baby mid-night is not having enough of BF milk?
*
you have to know everyone is different, so is every baby. your baby still newborn so its normal for her to feed frequent, and long as she is still gaining strength to suck. its normal to even go up to an hour per session. Later on when she's 1 month ++, the session will get shorter and baby will suck harder.

let ur baby lead the feeding, if she feed until sleep or drunk, means she's full.

also ur diaper count seems normal.

its normal to doubt your own milk production, i think every mothers will go through the same thing. most important is relax, be confident and enjoy every time you feed her.

It is something that us fathers, miss out laugh.gif

Hi,

After each pump do we need to wash the apparatus?
Can I dont wash and put inside fridge and use it for 2nd round?
*
You can, but remember anything cold near ur breast will decrease the flow of the milk out, you might want to warm up the cushion piece before using it.

Make sure you are healthy, that's the key word.
I have a friend that like to eat junk food after giving birth and cause the children to get sick often even breast feeding.
Breast feeding are the best food for new born baby(up to 2 years) especially the first 6 months.
Eat more sea water fish(once a while salmon is better as high on natural DHA, not chemical added DHA), reduce red meat like mutton, beef, pork and chicken.
Breast milk contain nutrients, where you get the nutrients? It needs to be replenished.

Sadly, I only can envy to mothers that able to breast feed their babies while my wife can't due to her stupid mother that knows nothing cry.gif

I understand your feelings, that's why imho, its not a good idea to do confinement at your parents or in law's house unless they are supportive... I guess we learnt it the hard way.

As for the nutrients....we just follow the confinement diet and my wife's appetite.....she took a lot of fish and eggs. Initially I thought you meant about BM production haha... tongue.gif

Also drink more milk, your wife will need the calcium sooner or later...
