Their intake varies. There'll be up and down times. 7 hrs without milk..as in when he's asleep?

QUOTE(nicKit @ Nov 27 2011, 05:06 PM)
nugget, it's normal that he feeds abt every hr coz remember his tummy is just a size of a pea... if he eats only that much imagine how fast he can get hungry too... breastmilk is oso easy to digest therefore u'll get the "baby din eat enuf" "should topup wif formula" this n that... it's oso advised not to start bottle feeding in the first mth to avoid nipple confusion/preferance... if u survery for formula, check out their ingredients n price... how many of the names in the ingredients that u can easily understand? do u know wat's inside it? n how much is a can/pack of formula? smile.gif

nugget..i totally agree with nicKit..and..once your wife tops up with FM..it unconciously gives signal not to produce much BM.

1) milk from both breast can mix together
2) It's best to consume all after heating up as it's not advisable to refreeze again. Due to our heat..the most it can stand is about 1 hr. My advise if you are storing EBM. Try storing smaller quantity first ie...1 or 2 oz per bottle. Then you only need to reheat the amount that your baby drinks.

Eg...your wife pumps 6 oz per session. if your baby normally drinks 3 oz per feed, then it's best to store 1 oz or 2 oz per bottle. In case your baby want's more than 3 oz..then you just reheat the other 1 oz....something like that..so that the EBM isn't wasted.

Tell you wife to keep it up..she's doing an excellent job!!

tell her to do this..

When your baby poo..keep all the dirty diaper..and then..show to them as proof that if baby got not enough milk...how to poo??

Added on December 9, 2011, 9:47 amnugget..if she doesn't want to offend her MIL (your mom)..then I think you should tell your mom that you want the baby to be fed BM.

Coz..it's difficult for her to talk back..so..this is when you show your support. tell your mom.

Kittybunny...first time I brought ebm out (frozen) but it's a hassle. Then I made sure that I go to places with bf rooms. In pavilion...on every floor...near the toilet..there's a baby room. At the baby room there's a sofa for u to bf..with a curtain to draw to. In gardens...go to Isetan..kids floor..there's a nursery with bf rooms.

Alternatively learn to bf in public..of coz cover with a big shawl.

If I go out for dinner in a restaurant..I make sure that I find a place in the corner..so If I want to bf..I just face the corner/ wall..and bf using the shawl to cover.

Already warmed up? Usually if I take frozen ebm out of freezer...keep in room temp..max 4 hrs. If warmed up..I keep max 1 hr.

Dear jovyn...pls be prepared that milk may only come in few days after you hv delivered. Pls be prepared to rough days and nights. be prepared that you may to work very hard to make sure you hv sufficient milk. I'm not frightening you but it's the truth that some of us goes thru tough times and only the determine ones stat on bf whilst some mummies stop after listening to others telling them they hv no milk etc etc.

jovyn...don't give formula..once you give formula..you are subconciously telling your body not to produce milk.

As baby stores fat whilst in mommy's tummy...yes..that's the reason why they say that they can last.

You will have the most nutritious milk the first time..which is called colustrum. This is what we mommy call it liquid gold..make sure you give your baby this.

Please remember that your newborn's stomach is a size of a pea..so don't think that he/she needs lots of milk..but they will need milk more frequently...hence why they get hungry fast too..not because you have no milk.

Kit...my friend just delivered..and is breastfeeding. She's saying that hers and baby poo is black and watery...I'm thinking it could be the confinement food that she's eating.

Since I didn't follow thoroughly Chinese Confinement method..i didn't have this problem. Did you?

Added on December 16, 2011, 11:47 ambtw..she's thinking of firing her CL coz..her CL don't let her to DL. She pump to keep storage for nights..but CL feed baby in the mornings too. So my friend is feeling sore from pumping all the time. She prefers DL as it's not painful.

I told her that just tell the CL to keep quiet..and reminded her that she's the boss not the CL ...and the baby is hers..not the CL though the CL may have more 'experience'.

The good ones..especially electric will cost more than RM200..even for 2nd hand.

As far as I know..the best is Medela freestyle (thru recommendation from colleague) but..it cost a bomb for a new one..even if 2nd hand..i can assume it will go half price or the most 75% off price. A medela freestyle costs about RM1.6K - RM2K.

Avent electric breast pump is ok..but i heard their manual pump is better (which i used for 1.5yrs)

hmm..actually when you feed bm..don't need to give water as bm contains water liao..

for me..i'll just give baby bm whenever baby wants as remember that bm is easily digested. maybe can increase the feed?? sometimes..baby just want to suckle the nipple for comfort.

Different baby has different eating habit..some would drink more..some drink less. My son..was drinking..about 1-2 oz per feed when he was 1 month..then..when he was 2 months..he increased to 2-3 oz per feed..anyways..my son is a small eater like his daddy.

He is now hungry every half an hour to an hour...I think my wife can't produce enough milk to keep up the rythm...tht's y she tried to mix with water to let he baby feels full...

Is it normal for a month old baby to ee aah ee aah whole morning till late afternoon without sleep? I mean....he is sleeping very less in day time...
Or every baby has diffrent preferable sleeping pattern?

Haw a nice weekend
*
I think he's going thru a growth spurt..which is when usually they'll demand more. is your wife using the method to increase breastmilk?

Babies' sleeping habits differ and changes from time to time. Also check the temperature in the room..maybe it's too cold? or too hot?

hi all. may i know how much bm your baby consume and how much milk u can pump per session at different stage, eg.
1 month: baby drinks between 2 - 3 oz, about every 1.5 -  2 hrs.  mommy pumps btwn 1.5 - almost 3 oz (both breasts)
2 months:
3 months:

For me..I managed to pump according to the amount my son drinks...I don't produce much..just ngam ngam.

1 month: 1-2 oz per session (the most is 3 oz once a blue moon)
2 Months: 2-3 oz per session
3 months: 4oz +

How much is your son drinking? If your wife have excellent production why give formula? Does she direct latch as well?

Just heat it up...won't be a problem..I've did it for the whole 1 year. If u go search on parenting sites or bf sites like kellymom.com...it'll state how long it can be kept. Just make sure that the milk is kept in the coldest part rather than the door as hot air enters when u open thus cd be the reason of bm not able to keep more than 24hrs.

I am a full time working mom...used to pump at work just to make sure my son gets BM. It's not easy but determination is the key.

Today marks my first day of weaning Xander from my breast...it's sad but I think it's time to end this beautiful journey.

The way I'm weaning - putting coffee on my nipples...coz Xander doesn't like dirty things. He said dirty nen nen lol! He even took tissue for me to wipe. But after I faked in cleaning up..he asked me to go bathe. Lol!! This is less traumatic than telling him no more nen nen (which he cried like it was end if the world).

He still ask for nen nen..but since there's still coffee on my nipple..he avoids it.

Added on January 1, 2012, 5:11 pmUpdate: he had a tough time falling asleep without his nen nen. He kept on checking to see if his nen nen is still dirty and then asking me to go bathe. Lol!
