after reading the front introduction, I still don't get what it means.
I just have to download the client? that simple?
*
hey, very welcome bro. biggrin.gif
here you go:
for your core i7 870 - run smp client.
the smp client available here: brows.gif
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
at the bottom of the page there:
Drop-in binary for current Windows SMP2 console client (6.30).
installation guide here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuide
make sure you enter -smp in Additional client parameters []?.

for your GTX570 and HD6870 - run 1 gpu client on each card.
the gpu client available here also:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
get the latest version, GPU3 v6.41.
installation guide here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinGPUGuide

after that, install folding monitoring tools, like fahmon or HFM.net. biggrin.gif

How about normal usage like watch videos and internet.

AND ATI cards can use ??
*
doesn't have impact on watch video and internet.
since the process priority is set to idle by default. biggrin.gif

ati card can use, but with lower performance with older client.
ati card perform quite on par with nvidia card with the latest v7 beta client,
but the client still on beta testing. biggrin.gif

Ok, just asking because some people say only Nvidia cards got CUDA so ATI cards cannot use.
*
haha, just tell him ati card can fold as well,
not necessary only nvidia cuda can use. biggrin.gif
just older gpu process core didn't optimize for ati card.

No idea how to persuade my friends to join Folding. It is like playing piano to cow ~.~
Friends claim they buy 2600k is because they multitasking alot, as I see lots are just idling + 40~50% during gaming. They even buy cooler for the cpu cooling and overclock 9 9.
As they see my CPU usage with 100% all the time, they complain that will only make their computer hot, reduce multitasking(even I explain the idle process for Folding). Wonder how you persuade friends with the regards of heat, usage. Not sure their cooler is for wat too smile.gif
*
haha, rich friends there. biggrin.gif
tell them your pc is stable 24/7 on full load, are them? tongue.gif
how is their level of multitasking? brows.gif
QUOTE(TDUEnthusiast @ Sep 7 2011, 02:53 PM)
Many people tend to think that having their web browser(s) open with multiple tabs and with Windows Live Messenger and et cetera running while playing their games requires a processor like an Intel i7 to handle. laugh.gif. They're unfortunately ill-informed and in most situations you cannot do anything to correct them on their thought as they're dead set on it. The salesmen at PC shops also often mislead people into believing such silly things like the situation that your friends are in.

Well, if they're not keen on helping out, then there's no point in trying to convince them anymore. You might even get them to label you as an annoyance if you keep trying to get them to do something they're not interested in and something that they have no idea of what's it about.

Look for some other friends, preferably those who are interested in computers to try persuading them. The friends you talked about above are unfortunately computer illiterate based on what you said.

I think yeah as they prime + linx quite long
Well not all but quite a few reli like wat TDU said, browser + game + music playing = multitasking
*
i see, ask them to use folding@home as stress test instead. tongue.gif
prime95 24 hours = stable
folding@home 24 hours = stable + contribution brows.gif

browser + game + music playing = multitasking
i think cheaper cpu can done these well also la.
they just rich. drool.gif

Hey guys, see my siggy. I have an Intel core 2 duo e4500. I just installed folding at home console client. How to fold on dual core cpu? I set 2 clients and each client with different machine ID. For example, 2 different folders with the folding console and different machine id. will this fully utilize my dual core cpu? And can I run SMP high performance client?
*
welcome bro. rclxms.gif

highly recommend you to run smp client on cpu. nod.gif
available here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 SMP2 client console version 6.34.

put -smp at the additional parameter there.

and remember to get yourself a passkey in order to receive bonus points from smp client. brows.gif

after finish the first 10 smp work unit,
the following work unit will come with bonus points. brows.gif

But will SMP client slow my system down? I'm using normal client and it stated that it will only use my spare CPU power but for SMP client, it will use up all the CPU and need to run at 24/7?
*
won't slow your system, as long as it's priority is set to idle. nod.gif
it will give priority to your work in your pc,
so it only used the remaining idle cycle to perform calculation. biggrin.gif

let say on this moment, your pc used 10% cpu cycle for your work,
so the fahcore_a3 (core to done calculation) in smp client will only use the remaining 90% cpu cycle to done the calculation.
and let say on next moment, your pc used 60% cpu cycle for your work,
so the fahcore_a3 (core to done calculation) in smp client will only use the remaining 40% cpu cycle to done the calculation.
won't interfere with your work. biggrin.gif

and not necessary have to run 24/7. biggrin.gif
just make sure that the work unit can be done before the preferred deadline in order to receive bonus points. nod.gif
