broo..can you help me...
i need recommendation on cpu, mobo and gpu for multi gpu rig...
lets say my budget below rm1000..
what used part combination that give higher ppd on smp and gpu...

bad luck yesterday...

my silverstone 50f get burnt after 1 weeks+ of folding... maybe too hot? not enough juice? 

thought it will kill the gc but end up psu took the bullet...

now replaced coolermaster gx 650w to continue folding...

i want to, but i still use my pc for watching movies + game + other stuff...

i plan to install the SMP client on my lab's pc, let it fold 24-7, see how it goes.

@ diademz: i'm pretty sure i DLed the smp client... the size is less than 1 MB, correct?

i see i missed some steps there..

so what i should do is: create shortcut to desktop → r-click shortcut → at properties, i type in -configonly -smp ?

btw, i'm not starting the client as a service.

my gtx460 is all stock clock.. i don't see any need for me to OC it..

it's an Asus gtx460 TOP direct cu 1GB version. idles at 39 C, while folding it shoots to around the same temps as yours, 61-63C.

i think the previous task weren't compatible with smp, now i understand what "work type b4 not eligible for variable processors" means..

how to use cpu+gpu together to fold?

i think so, the WU before were all ok: temps 61-63, silent operation.

with this WU it jumped man! 66 C OMGWTFBBQ ayam sked...

jokes aside, i'd stick to smp for now..

it's not the temps that really worries me, it's the high pitched buzz.. did you experience the buzz when folding the 6811?

EDIT: you're running the same 460 right? may i ask, what PSU are you using now?

The hissing or whining noise is coming from the chokes. It is a vibration that occurs when there is heavy heavy load like furmark or in this case folding. All of the 200 series and 400 series i have ran for folding make this noise, Even ATI cards. Most chokes will have some form of vibration, its just a matter of how long the heavy load is to elongate the vibration. Even in games, it will occur, but in game, you will only be in heavy load for a split second, where you may not even notice the noise coming from the GPU

jaycop, MSI actually uses a fully sealed choke so you don't hear the vibration or hissing sound. I wont stop you from buying the MSI card if it accomplishes what you need it to do, but i will also say that just because MSI uses fully sealed chokes and in a folding situation you hear less or no vibrations, doesn't mean the ASUS card is inferior. (not saying you did but for those that may be wondering) there are also many great advantages to the ASUS card like dust proof fans, which we have sealed ball bearing fans to increase fan life. but then again if you go water, that doesn't really matter... very nice heatsink design and the overlocking potential on the ASUS GTX460 is very high compared to many competitors out there. no reference or non reference are ever alike. The Vbios that we have implemented is different to our competitors. so if you you're assuming a GTX460 is the same as any other GTX460, the answer is no, there will always be some difference. even in choke design. so if u fold using gpu client ( ver. systray) open the viewer → press F5 → ????? → PROFIT!! (the nvidia logo turns to ati)

try to spam the f-keys, see what u got..

EDIT: F3 to F6 changes the viewer screen from nvidia to ati, the difference being the way the protein molecules are displayed. try it out..

open the viewer once then never open it already
after midnite run gpu and cpu client then go to slp morning wake up check progress then close... go work..

i will fold when i get my new rig.

Did not notice the icon. Anyway, I have shared with my friends. I think every now and then I'll put a reminder up and hopefully everyone would participate. Equally, I hope TS would also update everyone from time to time, otherwise I think we would forget or loose interest.

Just installed folding@home basic CPU Uniprocessor client for my pc.

Tried gpu client on my 8500gt but it crashed. 

Hopefully my Pentium D 4ghz still can make up to it.

Usually my pc is switched on 24/7 so hopefully something good would come out of this.
