QUOTE(DeaDLocK @ Jul 4 2007, 01:37 AM) Hi guys, 4-5k, with or without cymbals??I'm ready to plunge into getting my own drumset. I just cannot improve without my own set. Doesn't matter what I do at home, and how I hit surfaces with sticks or my fingers, when I try it on a real set it all falls to pieces. The kind of music I want to play is pop/rock stuff, with a strong leaning towards churchy music (Rolf Wam Fjell's style). Which means tons of snare and cymbals, so I'm guessing I will need a responsive/dynamic snare and some serious cymbals! Besides the hi-hat, I'm thinking, three or four extra cymbals. Maybe five if I'll find it useful! I am not super loaded, but don't mind spending if I need to. I believe in starting out with good stuff, as it really helps you learn faster (especially with the dynamics) and you start out on the right foot. I don't mind spending maybe 5-6k, but if I can get away with a decent kit for a lower price (4-5k), then that would of course be better. But I don't want to feel restricted by my kit once I get better. This would have to include all the hardware and stuff, including a metronome. So dudes, what are your recommendations? And oh, I live in a bungalow, so noise to neighbours isn't an issue I hope! |

Tama Superstar is a great drum, it does sound good too!! but that's around RM3500 for juz the normal superstar. Well, u can get gretsch sets at js music, jalan imbi. For pearl, i think u should avoid forum but the exports are kind of ok. Why don't you get pearl vision? Pearl vision is actually the replacement for exports.

QUOTE(Namqul @ Aug 27 2007, 11:18 PM) i donno. last time i went there they say that they are clearing all stocks for staggs. and when i ask what brand will they bring next, the say donno yet. but for now i think they still selling bosphorus cymbals. i called up jsmusic, and they don't even have a clue of what's gonna happen next in term of cymbals....sigh.....juz like we have to see wats coming next. If staggs are becoming more expensive, how much more can it cost? certainly it won't be as high as those zildjians or sabians right? |

QUOTE(thalidomide @ Nov 11 2007, 10:19 AM) There are only a handful of drummers that plays clinic in Malaysia. And one of them i know is pretty boring(not gonna mention names, but those who visits 'there' often will know who). Usually pros charge pretty high rates, so go to a music school they're pretty qualified. yup, I agreed. Go to places like bentley or yamaha, Their instructors are pretty qualified. |

QUOTE(Party2DMax @ May 9 2008, 10:15 PM) Dudes, just wanted to share with you something, if you don't already know. Hey Party2DMax, how much did u buy ur DW practice kit for?You know how online shops/eBay don't ship outside of USA? Enter vPost by Singapore Post. Buy anything you like and have it shipped to vPost's address in the US, and they will forward the stuff to your doorstep. The only condition is that you need a HSBC or UOB credit card. I've just bought a DW practice kit. I'm just trying my luck~~~ Fingers crossed that it will cost the same, or less, as buying from JS... without the impossibly long waiting period. The people on soft forum claims that shipping charges for USA - SG are: >USD90 for a snare. >USD45 for a pedal/snare stand. Anyone wanna try vPost and validate that? =) Added on May 11, 2008, 1:38 am QUOTE(kari_convention @ May 5 2008, 10:15 PM) Namqul: I am so friggin speechless with what you have. SUPER MASSIVE LARGE ULTRA KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gila la wehhh!! man.. i dunno when i can get that kind of cymbal arsenal..! Talking bout Reference series, I saw the price tag stated RM10k but no worries if anybody needs a reference, i can get it cheaper for them, hehe!Reference? Did u said reference Albarb?? Man, i have to go now! This post has been edited by justinckl: May 11 2008, 01:38 AM |

QUOTE(Party2DMax @ May 11 2008, 07:28 AM) Well, if you read what I wrote above, you would know that transaction was declined. Add a little bit more detective work and you will see that Sam Ash is selling the thing at USD125. Factor in shipping of about USD100, and an allowance for the probability of getting slapped with 10% duty... and you'll know roughly what you're looking at. Actually if u really want it, I can bring it in for u coz i used to bring in DW drums for my friends before. Although it's a little pricey but its worth every penny and its so much cheaper than buying from JS music. Bentley is selling the Reference series for RM10k but i can get around RM8650, is that any good? My dad and the owner are friends and use to buy alot of things in the past. But i think if i go through my dad i can get it maybe lower than RM8650. Anyway, if u need anything, juz let me know coz i could get u cheaper.BTW, how much cheaper can you get for a Reference kit? And how are you doing it? |

QUOTE(albarb @ May 12 2008, 10:23 PM) yeah, u can. juz let me know what snare? well, the bigger the order, the bigger the discount. The smaller the order, the smaller the discount. That's how it works!Added on May 13, 2008, 12:04 am QUOTE(saru88 @ May 12 2008, 10:47 PM) Yup can get good prices for cymbals but for drumheads the discount isn't much. Yup, can get pearl export but hurry, its running out of stock as the model is discontinued. Why don't u get the new vision series? Plenty of stock for that one!! haha! This post has been edited by justinckl: May 13 2008, 12:05 AM |

QUOTE(saru88 @ May 13 2008, 03:30 AM) actually, vision vs export, which 1 is betta? Actually u must look at quite number of factors before buying a drum set. In your case, I would advise u to go for vision, Im not trying to promote or anything but Im telling u from my own experience. I've tried both the export and vision and the vision has more improve sound than the exports. With the price tag of RM3450, I think thats a really good buy. Well, the vision VBX in particular is made of 100% birch shells, latest 900 series hardwares and comes with a sensitone snare and like how good is that man! for the price of RM3450. U don't have to think about upgrading or buying a new snare anymore.i luv the export jet black wif black hardware... damn cool!!!! Added on May 13, 2008, 7:42 pm QUOTE(Party2DMax @ May 13 2008, 08:23 AM) Good relationship you have there, and you're generous sharing this benefit with us. Thanks! haha! Anyway, I hope u get what ur looking for in singapore. If not, juz let me know. I will help u!I'm actually looking for hardware only for the time being... I need a throne and, depending on whichever is available and is better a deal, either a DW practice kit, or individual components - snare stand and pads. I'll be going to Singapore soon so if I don't see anything I like there, I'll have to get locally or US. This post has been edited by justinckl: May 13 2008, 07:42 PM |

QUOTE(-Nintedo Wii- @ May 13 2008, 10:22 PM) hey havent posted here cos of studying, but i thought i'd post up here today... Yeah can, just let me know. Take ur time!i cant put up pics at the moment.... cos i dont have my phone cable.... and i take the pics with my phone... will borrow my brosthers camera soon as to the vision vs export: i think the visions are awesome. the export vs vision fight would probably be a pretty obvious winner IMO. its like choosing between an imperialstar and a superstar. and to justin: can bring in paiste alphas? or DW 8000's? or sabian AAXplosions? i finally payed back m'dad! after selling the snare drum and saving up and stuff... now i can start saving up for my intruders! i'll post pics ASAP! but i think my setups kinda strange atthemoment.... its kinda like namquls setup, but i just set it up that way because i wanted my ride to be comfortably put above the bassdrum and it turned out pretty alright... its a comfortable setup... i'll make my setup in the KC program thing! |
