Hi guys,

I'm ready to plunge into getting my own drumset. I just cannot improve without my own set. Doesn't matter what I do at home, and how I hit surfaces with sticks or my fingers, when I try it on a real set it all falls to pieces.

The kind of music I want to play is pop/rock stuff, with a strong leaning towards churchy music (Rolf Wam Fjell's style). Which means tons of snare and cymbals, so I'm guessing I will need a responsive/dynamic snare and some serious cymbals! Besides the hi-hat, I'm thinking, three or four extra cymbals. Maybe five if I'll find it useful!

I am not super loaded, but don't mind spending if I need to. I believe in starting out with good stuff, as it really helps you learn faster (especially with the dynamics) and you start out on the right foot. I don't mind spending maybe 5-6k, but if I can get away with a decent kit for a lower price (4-5k), then that would of course be better. But I don't want to feel restricted by my kit once I get better.

This would have to include all the hardware and stuff, including a metronome.

So dudes, what are your recommendations?

And oh, I live in a bungalow, so noise to neighbours isn't an issue I hope!

Yeah...... I always like JS music..... really friendly people and great staff. I might check out and see if Bents have the Vision series though..... as he is a fan of Pearl & Tama.

Oh, btw...... can anybody recommend a conga drum set or a high end bongo set? He was also looking at that the last time we were in Bents.

i donno. last time i went there they say that they are clearing all stocks for staggs. and when i ask what brand will they bring next, the say donno yet. but for now i think they still selling bosphorus cymbals.

huh, around 300-600? thats 300 difference. lol. hmm, from what ive found out, price for 402 is rm290. for B8 is 420. and im too noob and worse, too broke to go and buy things more then 500. haha, coz got lots others thing to spent on. and now that ive working, cant go and ask money from parents. man that hurts. seriously! so is it okey to go with 402? hahaha. anyone can try to change my mind?

There are only a handful of drummers that plays clinic in Malaysia. And one of them i know is pretty boring(not gonna mention names, but those who visits 'there' often will know who). Usually pros charge pretty high rates, so go to a music school they're pretty qualified.

Well, if you read what I wrote above, you would know that transaction was declined. Add a little bit more detective work and you will see that Sam Ash is selling the thing at USD125. Factor in shipping of about USD100, and an allowance for the probability of getting slapped with 10% duty... and you'll know roughly what you're looking at.
BTW, how much cheaper can you get for a Reference kit? And how are you doing it?

I'm actually looking for hardware only for the time being... I need a throne and, depending on whichever is available and is better a deal, either a DW practice kit, or individual components - snare stand and pads.

I'll be going to Singapore soon so if I don't see anything I like there, I'll have to get locally or US.

as to the vision vs export: i think the visions are awesome. the export vs vision fight would probably be a pretty obvious winner IMO. its like choosing between an imperialstar and a superstar.

and to justin: can bring in paiste alphas? or DW 8000's? or sabian AAXplosions?    jk... dont have the cashhh yet.....

i finally payed back m'dad! after selling the snare drum and saving up and stuff...

now i can start saving up for my intruders!

i'll post pics ASAP! but i think my setups kinda strange atthemoment.... its kinda like namquls setup, but i just set it up that way because i wanted my ride to be comfortably put above the bassdrum and it turned out pretty alright... its a comfortable setup... i'll make my setup in the KC program thing!
