We need drummers at the moment..... AND if possible, someone to bring their drumkit along..... any takers??

I'm interested. But first.... wouldn't it be easier to go into a jam studio? And has anyone picked songs to jam? I'm just a casual player so I hope it's not too technical smile.gif ...

How about starting small first, say a 4- or 5-piece band, then learn up a song, then meet at some studio? Well, all I wanna do is just have some fun and 13 people is kinda hard to manage isn't it.

Sounds fun, but I'm more interested in the 'jamming' part. Alrighty then, I'll try to check the threads often.

Here's my lil intro: my name is Jay, 22 y.o. currently studying at SYUC and living in PJ. It's been years since I've seriously played an instrument but as far as musical education goes, I'm classically trained in violin, piano and guitar and I picked up electric guitar myself. I have no formal training in drums, though I have a drum kit at home.

A long time ago I used to have a band and I played guitar back then. We've shared the stage with some local indie band like John's Mistress and a very early line-up of Dragon Red. I've no recordings of my drums but I have one of my guitar: http://ccl.webhour.biz/TK.mp3. For those who recognise the song, yes, I listen to Taiwanese girl bands smile.gif

Yeah, when I was active with music a long time ago, it was easy to get tabs. Now, when I wanna start playing again, I've noticed a lot of sites giving that "sorry we can't provide tabs, pls click here to buy sheet music" crap. Anyway, I go to www.all-good-tabs.com.

And to answer the question about nylon and wooden tips, the difference is, one is a compromise on tone but improvement in durability (nylon) and the other (wooden) is the contrary. For practice, I use a pair of fully plastic (or plastic-like) sticks. They're heavier and helps with improving strength.

Also, how long a pair lasts depends on how and how much you play. Generally, wooden drum sticks aren't made to last, so they shouldn't last long.

EDIT: OK, that site I recommended up there doesn't work anymore. But these site work: http://metaltabs.com and http://www.hottesttabs.com. Quickly get the tabs before they remove it.

Plastic sticks dont give you added weight.
*
Of course there are exceptions to the rule but generally speaking, plastic, or more accurately, polymer, is far heavier than wood. Consider this: density of polyurethane (what my sticks are made of) is 1g/cc, while oak is only 0.6-0.9g/cc. Or so, the internet tells me. If you think 0.1g/cc (11%) is negligible, here's another thing: my sticks are hollow, yet they're still heavier than my wooden ones.

Apart from the added weight, polymers also absorb more kinetic energy. In layman terms, that means they don't rebound as much as would a wooden stick after hitting something. I like to think of it as 'killing one bird with two stones'. The added weight (stone #1) and energy absorption (stone #2) definitely helps build up strength (the bird).

P.S. AHEADs are hollow.

Definitely, I perform with wooden sticks, 'coz that they're the best by far. You talk about control, while I've been stressing that polymer sticks only helps build strength. That's two different things.

Simple reason: Polymers are more durable.

Hmm, done the medicine balls before but it was for martial arts. It's very easy to master; I can do it with both hands in any direction simultaneously. I don't think that helps with improving strength for drumming. As for running, let's just say I've got that covered.

What other better exercises you got?

Anyone knows what kinda cleaner/lube is good for the pedals?
Currently I use electronic cleaner (non-alcoholic) and WD40. It doesn't last long at all, and it does not offer protection against oxidisation/rust. I've used engine oil before on other stuff and I'm considering using it for my pedals.

Eh, beginner should take 2B la. Not 7A.
It's recommended to start with the thickest. Some would say 5A or 5B, which is the middle. But never start with 7A.

It's RM160, maybe lower. I have two pairs of JJ.
Great sticks, great sound. I'd buy more of it if only JS can stock up on the other models~~~

I just take care not to mishit, and not use the exposed back portion.
Tempered 7075 is a freaking strong material, but it's still susceptible to bends and dents.

Speaking of pedals, anyone knows any difference between the various linkage designs?

Laser engraving? LOL, it's just normal paint that wears off.

Wouldn't engraving give it a 3D feel? Silk screen, you mean.
Anyway I'm not sure about the black colour (maybe 7075 is black) but the gray wordings do wear off.

Nah, not slow. My new pair is more than a month old and the "Slipknot" and signature are barely recognisable. If it's due to sweat, everywhere should wear off at the same rate.
It all boils down to where you grip it.
