18-55 useful when taking landscape and some not too far away candid.
35mm good under low light.

What I can say is, if u travel around and likes to take landscapes, or even portraits that u wanna include the background, u must have a wide angle lens, I seldom use 35mm to travel, coz I need to fit a lot of landscapes/backgrounds into the frame, to make it simple, the lesser the mm, the more you can capture into the frame!

thanks you kent , can you recommend the len to me ?

Sorry i dont know much about the len , still learning . Hope you can guide me .

I love to take portrait , my fren , my family or stranger . especially play with eye contact .

Believe or not even ISO good, I sometime dine at hotel, aperture still at f/1.4 sweat.gif
Never mess with hotel lighting, especially fine dining.
of course 35mm better than 18-55 in taking portrait. Prime lens bokeh always better wink.gif

Get the kit lens, then get a used 35mm F1.8G @ around 650-700, this is a very good lens, the 50mm might be too narrow for ur liking, wait until u comfortable with primes 1st den u get narrow primes. Juz my 2cents
I think u also can do this with kit lens by walking 10 steps back? hahaa.....

okay kent , thanks you . Your advice is useful to me , appreciate your help =)

anyway 50mm is AF-S or AF , nikon d3100 dont have auto focus motor right ?

hi Edward

front focus and back focus?

oh ya , i wan to ask is that important for exposure control

just now i compare nikon d3100 and nikon d5000

nikon d5000 has more exposure control than nikon d3100 and focus lock

nikon d3100 cannot focus lock ?

Forgot this tongue.gif
What you mean by focus lock? Continuous focus?
Exposure control? Auto or manual? If manual, exposure is controlled by you, not the camera. Set the ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed to get the exposure you want.

Sorry for my unclear questions .

I rephrase again ><"

Sorry i tot nikon d3100 cannot focus lock like "Focus can be locked by pressing shutter-release button halfway (single-servo AF) or by pressing AE-L/AF-L button"

Ohhh okay , now i can understand more about exposure control d . thanks you !

what is front focus and back focus anyway ?
