hi all sifus,
just want to get some opinions on home theatre/sound system setup. i am thinking of upgrading my current "home theatre" system which is just a caplang panasonic mini hifi. i would like to integrate the following devices:
- LCD TV (obviously)
- astro
- ps3
- ipod/iphone
i currently output the audio from astro & dvd movies via the hifi, as it can play dvds as well. but since my ps3 is via hdmi the audio comes from the TV, which i sometimes output to a portable JBL ipod dock via std audio jack.

at first, i was looking to get the Bose 321 series. what i like about the system is its compactness, single woofer, 2 powerful tweeter-like speakers, dvd player/amp (forgot if it comes with center speakers). this small setup simulates surround sound even without the back speakers, which is good coz my hall is not that big & missus dun want wires to be running across from amp->back speakers. 1 drawback is that it's not that cheap. i believe for that price it would be better for me to mix n match diff components & get a better system (?).

so maybe i was thinking mayb get harman kardon amp/receiver & together with some speakers to go with it. but im no hardcore audio enthusiast, so would like to seek some opinions here.

my budget would be around 4k & i intend to use the system for mostly movies, music & console gaming. surround sound is not a necessity for me atm but the amp/receiver must have that in cae i decide to go 5.1/7.1. cool.gif

For RM4k you can opt to get a Yamaha AVR with 5 speakers and 1 Sub and get an iPod Dock for it as well. You get a very nice 5.1 HD surround sound.

For less than that, you can opt for the Yamaha Soundbar YHT400 together with the iPod Dock. You get neat, tidy and minimalist design.

Both sets have HDMI in so you can streamline all your connections.

Thanks for the info. I think i saw these @ HN but they dont offer setup (which i might need and i also dont quite trust them as they are more of a salesman rather than familiar with AV product). Your price is roughly based from which shop huh? A&L or Hi-way or ? Am new here and this is my first piece of audio equipment.

I'm also quite new at this... only could afford entry level so I went around testing all the available entry levels I could find here in Penang.

my set is actually from HN.
The only setup they did for me was bring it over and plug everything in for me smile.gif
the tuning thing.. well.. lets just say mine is half-bakedly-tuned by me. sweat.gif
