Hi folks. I need some clarifications here. Yesterday I received a call from a woman claiming to be an Etiqa staff. She asked me if I'm free to talk and started to promoted her Etiqa insurance. I just listened to her halfheartedly while doing my own work until she mentioned that Etiqa will deduct RM74 from account every month (although I never agreed to it). The dialogs were something like these, ----------------------- Woman: Ok, so now we'll be deducting RM74 from your account every month. Before that we'll need to ask a few questions. Me: Eh wait, I never said I'm going to buy the insurance. I'm still studying and I'm already covered by another insurance. Woman: Don't worry, it's only RM74 and your parents will surely agree to it. And let say in the case your parents had an accident, will you be able to pay for it? Me: Can I think about it later and if I'm interested, I'll just call you or go to any Maybank branch? Woman: This is special because you are one of the few selected Maybank account holders and entitled for the special price. This offer is only available by phone conversation. The usual price is normally RM1++. (Now it's becoming weirder) Woman: And if you think RM74 is too high, you can also go for the RM44. You now have two choices, RM74 or RM44. (And there's not even a choice to reject both..) Me: Can I at least see the T&C or any black and white first? Woman: Well, sir, the whole agreement is based on this phone conversation which will be recorded. Me: I'm sorry, I can't make the decision now as I mentioned I'm still studying and I already have another insurance. Woman: Ok then, we'll just have to remove you from the list and give others who needed it. ------------------------------ Well, the question is, Is this some kind of a scam? Can they really make the agreement via phone call without our signature, etc? And let say, they still deduct from my account, can I take some legal action since there's no proof on my side either. Well sorry for the tl;dr. Hope someone can share their thoughts here as well. Btw, although I should just put down the phone, I choose not to. I thought, maybe I can just play along and not to be rude at the same time. |

I had same thing with RHB 2 years ago. I agreed and they start deducting from my account and i was promised to received the policy by mail. After few months I did't received anything (no policy not even single letter).
I went to RHB klcc branch and explained to a customer rep. there, he called the RHB insurance and they acknowledge they deducting the premium amount from my account, they I ask when i will received my policy and other documents? They said they will mail it soon. But till date I did't received anything. My advice is stay away frm this kind of things. |

I intended to ignore it as I already covered by another insurance. Why would I need another one. I was just amazed how persistent she was. I've met a lot of of these sales agents (from WWF, UNICEF, etc) but none were as forceful as this.

there's also a grace period on when you can cancel it. =) |

Another thing that concerns me, why should there be a different pricing for the one from the phone call and another by registering via bank branches or website (In this case, RM74 via phone call and RM1++ something for non-phone calls, as she claimed I was selected).
I can't see the reason why they need to have different pricing for the same thing. |

i received the same call last thursday on my back home. The whole conversation sounds more like forcing us to agree and sign the insurance policy. Never heard someone tried to sell insurance policy in a such way. When i rejected her by sayin that i need time to sit and think she said "we dont give anytime time to think and dont regret ar sir coz this would be your only chance to apply". duh.. like i care.. F-off la lady...

No, its not a scam. Its their so called TELE-MARKETING
they hav join venture with Bank & CC company to get ur details, n they do their promotion based on ur details/background provided by the respective bank. I've encounter numerous tele-marketing before be it Insurance, CC, trust fund, etc2.. But i juz turn them down, as for me., as long there's no black & white or T&C or rules&rulegations to be read/understand, I don't give them a single chance to take advantage on me. |

Someone from 0323023900 called me yesterday, claiming to be CIMB Aviva telemarketing team. Found he was very irritating when keep asking me to buy their cheap RM42/month assurance plan even though I refused to . This kind of creature becomes very annoying to me, looks like he was very desperate. Very unstoppable conversation, keep repeating the same point & never understand human rights. What the f--king desperado!
