KUALA LUMPUR: History will become a must-pass subject for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) beginning 2013, Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today.

This will give the subject a similar status as Bahasa Malaysia for the SPM exams, he said at the Umno General Assembly here today.

Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, also announced that the replacement of PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah) exams with a school-based assessment system will be brought forward to 2014, instead of 2016 as earlier announced.


A school-based assessment was found to be more suitable for students in Malaysia’s 7,000 secondary schools. Such an assessment, which has been carried out in 550 schools nationwide since 2008, was found to be the preferred choice of many.

These are among the recommendations in a report on the proposal to abolish both examinations. The move is part of the government’s efforts to restructure the education system, which is perceived to be too exam-oriented.

Patriotism? Do you know how low is the passing mark of sejarah ? only those who dont read will fail..

Also, most of the facts in text book is tweaked and changed.. I cant bear to read it when i got the real FACTS in da internet

Yeah. Also stating the irony. I scored mostly thanks to my tuition teacher who hates the syllabus but pointed out the wonders of history.

Having Sejarah and Pendidikan Moral as memory-dependent exam subjects is an insult to the true value of history and morality.

If you already knew it was only memory-dependent , why can't you take this as a positive. It is better to train your brain with a good information (even though it is debatable) rather than waste time memorizing useless and dirty stuff right?.

It seems you are intelligent kiddo, if you appreciate the wonder history, why do you must complain about syllabus? It is only secondary school test. You are independent person , so you should sought by yourself rather than depend on the school education

maybe bcoz islam is the official religion of Malaysia.. so at least u must know a bit about it and respect it.. 

to know islams history will give a better understanding to all as this is Islamic country. learn the history of your country will make you feel proud of the struggle and braveness that the olders have done
