Deck Legend
Quality is good. But oddly if you want NKRO, have to get the PS2 version. Filco and Ducky can get NKRO via usb to PS2 adapter, but the Deck Legend cannot get NKRO via adapter which is very odd.... Considering the cost, i omitted getting this because of the NKRO oddity. Also Filco and Ducky were cheaper besides, and i didn't need the backlighting that badly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTtO4da-r1o Xarmor U9BL The keycaps have rubber in it so they may not be so durable. Oddly enough it also is dye sublimated which is nice, just the rubbery parts are a concern in regards to durability. http://hardwareaware.com/review/xarmor-u9bl/ Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2KRO which is pathethic considering they are marketing this as a gamers keyboard. Also glossy so it's a finger print magnet. And only comes with cherry mx blue only http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlWYLJIibxE This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Nov 24 2010, 05:02 PM |

The bw wasn't designed to handle NKRO. So just using a USB to PS2 adapter won't give it NKRO capability.
Even the Deck Legend USB version doesn't give you NKRO even with USB to PS2 adapter. Because the controller sux :/ Only FILCO/Ducky/Cherry g80-3494/Steelseries 7G have NKRO via USB to PS2 adapter. I heard plum keyboard can achieve NKRO via usb without the use of PS2 or adapters. |

QUOTE(Phonzy @ Nov 26 2010, 07:11 AM) would you reach a conclusion then, that the Steelseries 7G, even though a MUCH older model, excels in where the Blackwidow Ultimate fails? :/ Well depends.BW is using cherry mx blue switches, whereas the steelseries 7g uses cherry mx blacks. Depends which you prefer. But overall i think the steelseries wins because of NKRO support. Even using just USB it has 6KRO which is more practical for gaming compared to 2KRO. In terms of aesthetics i think the BW looks good (except for the glossy finish which makes it harder to keep clean/nice) |

QUOTE(lucidlts @ Nov 30 2010, 05:50 PM) That is just one of their product, the ML-3000-POM they have is pretty good too. NKRO for a USB keyboard is pretty rare though. Yeah that NKRO Pro for usb, why don't they do it more often ?? I asked the same question on GH and nobody really knows Anyway someone said those plum POM keys have dimples on them Also POM isn't as important as doubleshots. It's interesting to know that PBT plastic isn't compatible with doubleshots. ABS and POM are Oddly the only POM doubleshot i saw was on a Deck legend, but thats not really a normal doubleshot :/ if you check the GH forum wiki you'll see why i said that. SkyDigital keyboard is using the filco wireless casing. So it has a battery compartment that doesn't do anything o_O; which is odd.

Here is a very detailed review of the black widow ultimate
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:13224 I like the look; but shame it's 2kro QUOTE And speaking of USB, that brings us to a very important point - the keyboard is NOT NKRO. And I don't mean not NKRO as in, because it's USB it can only to 6+4 keys. No. I mean, there are no diodes on the board, so key combos are blocked by the controller instead of by the USB protocol. So you will run into combinations that get blocked at only 2 keys, meaning this is just 2-key rollover. One such combination is Z+X+C, which screwed me up because I use those keys for both emulators and music games. Not that I couldn't find a new cluster of keys to use, but it's just something that I wouldn't want to have happen immediately after spending $130 on a keyboard. One of the nicest things about it however is probably the lighting. QUOTE One of the cool things about backlighting with Cherry MX switches is that there's a little spot on the switch for an LED to sit. So just like the Decks and Xarmor, each individual key has it's own LED. For those who didn't know, rubber dome keyboards with backlighting have only about 6-10 LEDs around the perimeter of the board, and use a diffuser sheet to spread the light across the entire thing. Giving each key it's own individual LED results in brighter and more even backlighting. Here what you see is a Deck Legend on the left and a Razer Blackwidow on the right. Razer used the same blue you'll find on any of their other keyboards or mice, while the Deck's LEDs have a slightly different hue to them - a little bit more towards the turquoise side. But they are identical in brightness. Now, I don't know whether or not Razer's LEDs are rated for the same lifespan that the Deck's are, but even the cheapest ones last for several thousand hours. So I'm not too worried about their longevity. Hitting Fn+F12 cycles through the backlight settings, which are as follows: 1 - Off 2 - Low 3 - Medium 4 - High 5 - Pulsing (gradual change from off to high, and then back to off) That last one is mildly annoying and very distracting, and I can't imagine anyone actually using it. QUOTE(xcen @ Dec 6 2010, 09:42 PM) Does all Filco's come with NKRO or some of them do not? Filco sells with NKRO and without NKRO. So when buying make sure your getting the one with the NKRO. It should be shown on the box Btw, I'm still waiting for storm88's filco... Anyway for the Filco NKRO kb; you need to use a usb to ps2 adapter and plug it into a PS2 port on your motherboard in order for NKRO to work. If you just use usb, then your stuck at 6KRO which is pretty decent for most things. Even if your keyboard has NKRO but your motherboard doesn't have PS2 port then your stuck at 6kro. Some keyboard like some PLUM models have something called NKRO pro which lets you have NKRO over usb (without using PS2 at all). However Filco doesn't have this neat feature This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Dec 6 2010, 10:05 PM |

From the GH forums most people seem to think the chery mx black is the worse for a spacebar.
Clears best for spacebar well that is the general consensus anyway. ABS plastic is better than the plastic used on say Logitech/Dell etc which uses some other lesser quality plastic. ABS is usually found on old mechanical keyboard casings. PBT is used on newer mechanical keyboard these days; however they still use abs from time to time because it's cheaper. Abs will make the keys shiny eventually after hard use. Pbt will have less or no shine with use Also pbt yellows less compared to abs. QUOTE Key Materials and Key Wear There is a bewildering array of plastics available and when you add in the different additives for softening, the ability to mix plastics, and fire retardants it's not easy to generalize how keys will wear. In addition, keyboard manufacturers generally will not advertise what materials they use in keys and focus instead on cost cutting. These are some of the plastics you may find to be in use: PS, PC and PVC (Polystyrene, Polycarbonate, Polyvinyl Chloride). Common and cheap. This is a lighter less durable plastic that tends to be vulnerable to solvents. Most keyboards shipping today including Logitech, Microsoft, etc. use some variant of this for their casings and keys. ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). It's commonly used for older keyboard casings. It's a comparatively soft material compared to some modern plastics but is resistant to breakage. Topre casings are made of ABS and probably most IBM Model M's are as well. Although I am not sure I suspect Filco and Das keys are made of ABS. PBT (Polybutylene Terephtalate). PBT is a common choice for modern Cherry keycaps and is what IBM and Unicomp use. It should not yellow as much as ABS over time. POM (Polyoxymethyleneor better known by the brand name "Delrin"). An abrasion-resistant and low-friction material, this found use in older black Cherry G80 keycaps. However it is expensive and not common in other keyboards. Read this wiki article to find out more about the differences in the plastic material http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=All+About+Keys Anyway bottom line is; if it's ABS, PBT or POM it should be fine; and is way better than the normal crappy PS, PC and PVC (Polystyrene, Polycarbonate, Polyvinyl Chloride) used in logitech/microsoft etc keyboards.
