still in a scary situation flashing it on my own.. gathering more info b4 doin it. but i MUST do it. haha... got some silly question here. 1. can i flash my sgs without my sim card? reason is i dont wants unwanted disturbance eg. ppl calls/sms in. 2. can anyone provides me more details steps from 0 on whats my needs and importants things i needs to know b4 i flash my sgs? as i said.. i read this in month time and i still could not understand it very well. dumb me >.< thats it currently This post has been edited by skydrake: Oct 22 2010, 06:09 PM |

QUOTE(naimadam @ Oct 22 2010, 06:17 PM) thats good QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Oct 22 2010, 06:19 PM) 1. Can flash with or without SIM, if you're using ODIN. 1. so it can flash without sim. ya! if this case it will settle my main problem 2. You should read the stuff on page 1, the FAQ. Most if not all the info you need is already there. If you're still unsure after reading the FAQ, maybe flashing is not for you. Good luck. 2. though i m dumb and hard to understand it now, i may need to read more n more.. but i wants to flash it |

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Oct 22 2010, 06:31 PM) I don't think you're dumb. Different people have diff tech understanding level due to many factors. For example, I follow most of the kernel improvement discussions in xda-developers forum but I still can only understand maybe 5-10% only. is the matter of patient n time, i like the way u say "wash me nicely" hahhaaah, very true on what u said though.. well i just opened a txt file and gather all the info and creates my own step by steps and verify it carefully b4 i root it Another option is to ask a friend to help. I am helping my 2 colleagues with SGS to upgrade firmware, root and lagfix their phones. I test the latest lagfixes on my phone, but I install the slightly older, more stable lagfixes for them. Scared they will call me at midnight and 'wash' me nicely for lost data.. |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Oct 22 2010, 08:06 PM) Welcome to the club, mate. ahhh.. now i got more info on this. is almost like this example1) sim removal is not necessary as most firmware flashing happens before Android is loaded, which means the telephony service is not loaded. Your sim won't be receiving calls. flashing is like installing windows, i need to boot the installation files on the clean boot which means that the windows is NOT on operation. i got it i got it! thats y we need to reboot the phone. |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Oct 23 2010, 12:05 AM) Yeah, I always treat my phone like a micro-computer more than just a phone like Nokia (which can wakes up on alarm clock settings, lol). thank you for the explanation, i think i will make a "sgs rooting/upgrading for dummies *like me..haha*" after a gather all the needed info and with my 1st success rooting/flashing experince on it |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Oct 23 2010, 01:10 PM) This would be good. basically i will make it similar like step by step and things to know besides the steps. I wanted to compile something similar, but I'm just too lazy and busy at the same time. Besides, I don't bookmark everything that I read/went through. So it's gonna be a pain to dig them back up on the net. A first page on a new thread called "Risky Stuff You Can Do To Your Samsung Galaxy S" would be nice, with all the information compiled together and reachable with 1 click. QUOTE(hihihehe @ Oct 23 2010, 01:19 PM) i read ur 1st page many times, the details is very good.. but hard for a newbie like me to understand from "0"what to say? i m in the category of "dummy" hahaha.. anyhow i manage to learn from all the things u all posted. i read all the pages.. and goes thru it.. slowly search thru google for more details explaination rather i ask repeated question in here |

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Oct 23 2010, 04:38 PM) i dun mind if some1 can create a new thread and provide all the info.. but i personally think this thread is very informative and good enough... we canot demand so much coz is free and somemore thread starter + all the members in here is 100% helpful as i gone thruso many ep. and pages but try to make the thread clean?impossible..no matter how "useful" or "informative", there still will be always people asking for "help" plus there are many ROMs,lagfixes, fixes, etc around, it's hard to "catch up" with them if someone is free enough to do all those works, maybe he can become new TS after this thread so that all the info compiled in 1 thread |

i got silly question here, i can't get into recovery mode
5. Shutdown your phone, wait for it to power off completely (vibrates on Froyo, check buttons keypad light on Eclair), then boot the phone into Recovery Mode (press Volume UP, keep it pressed, then press HOME button, keep it pressed, then press Power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it). anything wrong? what did i missed? lol This post has been edited by skydrake: Oct 31 2010, 01:28 AM |

urm, i just follow the instruction here to fix the 3 buttons recovery mode works. but somehow now.... my phone can't detect my sim card and no service. anyone can help? LOL...
Preparations: Make sure you have the drivers installed (i.e Kies is recognizing the phone), adb available and "USB Debugging" turned on in "Settings -> Applications -> Development" menu. Type *#0228# in the dialer and check Voltage value (without USB plugged in) is atleast 3800(mV). 1. Unplug the phone from the computer (if connected) 2. Kill all Kies related software (tray agent, etc) 3. Start Odin3 v1.3 Downloader 4. Plug in the phone to the computer 5. Start a new command prompt and navigate to the folder / drive where adb is located. If you haven´t downloaded adb yet, get it here. 6. Type "adb reboot download" to the command prompt and press enter. 7. Move to Odin3 v1.3 downloader and select the "Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5" as PDA file. Make sure "Phone Bootloader Update" is ticked and re-partition is unticked. Do not select any other files but "Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5". 8. Press "Start" button to launch the update process. It will take around three seconds to complete. After the update phone will reboot automatically. |
