watching anime/movies on SGS
got my first smartphone, the SGS! i am not a very technical guy so can't do all the detail testing.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

tested video's that run smoothly:

AVI - 704x396 , bit rate 174kbps, data rate 46kbps. 23 frames/second.
- subtitles in the correct place & readable.

MKV - 1280x720, bit rate 1051kbps, data rate  ??, 24 frames/second
- this one will lag when ONLY fast forwarding/back.
- if using RockPlayer, its even worse, speech & video doesn not match at times, and expect some funny pixelation.
- subtitles in the correct place & readable.

AVI - 720x576, bit rate 174kbps, data rate 46kbps. 23 frames/second.

MKV - 720x400 , bit rate 174kbps, data rate 46kbps. 24 frames/second.
- default & rockplayer play smoothly, fast forwarding & back no problem.
- not sure how to get subtitle to function & or change language using both players.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

using MicroSD class 4,
using default SGS video player & rockplayer.

- beautiful screen! with 4.0" watching movies feels good.
- the video looks gorgeous especially when playing 720p.
- need some options able to tweak subtitles or audio language.

*
for MKV i recommend you to use mVideoplayer its the best MKV player we got

Lag test first:

who cares about quadrant and linpack test, we want day to day performance. so here what i done...

i open up 9 apps, all come out in the active application in tas manager.
browser
music player
cestos 2
gallery
papago
dolphin browser HD
angry birds
google sky map
skyfire

ram showing 228/304MB

aaaahhhh found a new(i think) fuction, when putting widget, if the screen have no more rooms, it will show no more rooms and the widget is kinda "floating", you can scroll to new empty screen and it will show tap to confirm.

scroolling of the homescreen still smooth,
opening app, no loading like before, i think samsung fix that always loading apps thing, scrolling not lag, but doesnt feel smooth either, maybe cause of the animation.....

open nova and play, smooth, tap the home button, and check that all other apps have been close, only music player and nova left, guess that the system killing task working.

so that all i guess about the lag

err.. what is your conclusion? Let say on a scale of 10, with 10 being the best.
*
i give it 8, if you are using eclair or earlier froyo you notice that most of the time when you open an app, then play around, then go to homescreen and tap apps drawer, Tw will have to load them for about 10 sec, i have not seen it yet on the new froyo.

oh yeah i forgot to say i have 8 full apps drawer.

Nice silentser. Does it lag after opening 9 apps all together? Like stuttering when scroll between home screens?
Also, try opening activities, I don't know where but on LauncherPro when applying function for icons, will appear activities. And they usually take a whole 2 minutes to load at least.

or go to applications in manage applications. How long does it load?
*
stuttering hmm, stuttering "kinda" there more like 1 milisec stutter, like i said, maybe cause of animation make me feel it not that smooth,
i try to find the activities and tell ya

camera test, all stock setting, no scene,no anti shaking, in low light condition, iso auto,i read somewhere samsung froyo supposed to have new camera driver, NOT RESIZE, 5mp

GPS test: no simcard in phone, wifi off, use wireless network setting in gps is uncheck, sensor aiding uncheck

i go to middle of street stand there, open sky totally

open gps test apps, from there i activate the gps
GPS test apps: 8 sec - 8 satellite - 30 feet accuracy

i turn off gps. exit gps test app

open papago. i activate gps from the papago
8.30 sec, it lock me down

how accurate the gps and strongly it got the satellite lockdown is unknown yet.

opened the manage application.

and i must say it REALLY improve the time,
when i open it, all the application name already there, not like before most of it com.something.something
but all still show computing, wait another 10-15 sec, all done computing and then the pictures start to come out, wow

before it take almost half a minute to load all that apps

will try to search the activity

then how to restore it after i flash it? JPA can root?
*
yes, JPA can root, very easy one button software. truly one button software, no need to reboot to recovery.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

after using that install busybox. cause it doesnt come with it

after flashing, go to batch, and select restore apps.

Oh, do you have launcherpro. Then hold on launcherpro dock icons, then it will appear something like activity for the icons where you can set the dock icon to open contacts, text, etc when u touch it. There always load time about 2 minutes. lol...
*
owh that kinda of activities.

i hold down an icon, pop up change shortcut, icon, swipe action,

tap change shortcut, open in instant, tap application, all my application pop in instant. yerp, it sure is fast.... ( 99 user apps according to titanium)
tap change icon, launcher pro icon, open instant nothing biggie, custom icon, open up gallery, fast cant complain
swipe action, i dont think you care about this

i got silly question here, i can't get into recovery mode

5. Shutdown your phone, wait for it to power off completely (vibrates on Froyo, check buttons keypad light on Eclair), then boot the phone into Recovery Mode (press Volume UP, keep it pressed, then press HOME button, keep it pressed, then press Power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it).

anything wrong? what did i missed? lol
*
how long ago did you buy your sgs?

new batch of sgs mostly have their recovery/download mode disable

Maybe that 10% is what SGS need to get an 'A' from users. Still There is no mention of how is the battery life performing on this FW.

@silentser
Any comments yet on the battery consumption rate for this FW?
*
still too soon to say my man, will charged 100% today and let see how last it can hold on, will top up my prepaid broadband tommorow, so i will on 3G all the time,

yerp its the matter of the person who using it, from the start i dont see the bull about the lagging and all, all i fedup is the waiting when opening the app drawer, and the gps i rarely use, but i can still use it. gaming great, browser experience is great, i can even register my university online course using it. eating at mcD watching muvie, i laugh till people look like im crazy, watching youtube until i spray water on my frends face. all good.
