Hi Andy,
Good question you have there. You may refer to http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal/index.html & http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php for colour calibration. Alternatively, you may send in few pages for printing & use the pages as colour proof to adjust the colour manually. Understand that there are some concerns about the print quality of digital press printed specialty products like photo books. As you may aware that the photographic industry is going through the digital revolution and pushing the photofinishing side of the industry becoming digital as well. The HP Indigo press 5500 delivers the offset printing look and enables near-silver halide quality using software tools to automatically detect and correct images in need of sharpening and smoothing, combined with the six-color photo imaging featuring Light Cyan and Light Magenta HP ElectroInks. All photo books are printed on this machine including the pictures you saw on the previous post. Thanks. For those who want to know more in details about photographic print quality as compare with the rest of the machines namely, Kodak NexPress 2500, Xerox iGen3 & conventional, kindly log on to http://www.spencerlab.com/reports/SpencerL..._WhitePaper.pdf (The white paper/ research conducted by Spencerlab Digital Color Laboratory) This post has been edited by Photobookmart Malaysia: Oct 22 2010, 02:53 PM |

Hi Kent3888 ,
Thanks so much for your kind words, what a small world... It's acid- free archival paper. Acid-free papers are commonly used for printing photo books. Paper is made using a wood-based pulp that naturally contains lignin. This chemical causes paper to yellow and deteriorate over time. When paper that is exposed to heat or light, the lignin in the paper causes the molecules to break down at a faster rate. In the paper making process, acid-free paper is treated with calcium or magnesium bicarbonate. These chemicals neutralize the natural acids in the wood pulp. The chemical mixture is absorbed by the pulp and helps to stop new acid from forming. Once treated, this paper has an alkaline reserve of two percent or greater. The paper materials made with this process will be preserved for at least 100 years. Specially designed archival paper that is 100% acid-free is often used for archival documents like photo books. Try it & the print quality is great! This post has been edited by Photobookmart Malaysia: Oct 22 2010, 03:35 PM |

QUOTE(Photobookmart Malaysia @ Oct 22 2010, 03:33 PM) Hi Kent3888 , Wow.... thanks for da discovery channel lesson on fine paper making, nice explanation, den wat does the textured paper gain the extra bucks paid ya? I can feel the paper feel very solid, so does the printing outcome has any difference for both? Thanks so much for your kind words, what a small world... It's acid- free archival paper. No different at all in term of print quality for both papers, however, in term of paper cost, textured one is more expensive than the non-textured paper due to the additional process on texturizing the paper surface.

QUOTE(Photobookmart Malaysia @ Oct 22 2010, 02:50 PM) Hi Andy, Thanks for the link above but it wouldn't do much help as each of the monitor is different. I'll be getting a calibrator soon and might need to print a photobook soon. By the way , do you think it's possible if I send my picture to print 4R/8R size at my local shop until it match the color and contrast I want then I send you the hardcopy to follow it ?Good question you have there. Hi Andy0625,
It won't work that way since ours are press printed photos & 4R/8R photos are silver halide printed (conventional photo developing method). 2 different printing technologies applied. Added on October 27, 2010, 9:48 amHi Andy, Any other thing that you would like to find out about photographic print? Please feel free to ask. We will try our best to answer your question. Thanks.
