Some changes are happening over at Xbox Live, both in name and design. Xbox UK community boss Graeme "AceyBongos" Boyd has just announced that Xbox Live Silver will from now on be called as Xbox Live Free.





Making the reveal via his Twitter account last night, he said, "Just been told that 'Xbox Live Silver Membership' will now officially be called 'Xbox Live Free Membership'. The times they are a-changin..." And change is good, especially if it's free! This rename announcement comes in the heels of Microsoft's big reveal of the re-designed Xbox. com.

I think you should check your facts. It just change the name from live to silver but the features are still the same. Only certain ( less than 5% in my opinion) that games wish you can play online with the free member.

Imo it's always been stupid that they've been charging for online play. Sure it's worthwhile and Xbox Live is more fun than anything, but seriously? There's a handful of PC games that play as well online, no excuse.
And the fact that GFWL games are free to play online? Get outta here.

I notice that if you have a 48 hour trial, you're not necessarily on Gold, rather you're still Silver but you can play online, except not on Ranked servers since you'd need to have Gold.
A smart idea is if they made Unranked servers free, but you'd have to pay for Ranked servers similar to that. They did that in the early days of GFWL IIRC. And tbqh if that happened, I'd actually still go out and buy Gold now and then, I do like ranked servers at times. Just don't play them as much >_>

Or, Xboxes are free and you can waltz into a store and just grab one to take home, but they charge RM100 every month for it to work, and you get the whole package: updates, online play, DLC, etc etc etc
