Someone should open a thread for XPS 15 owners smile.gif
I ordered the XPS 15 with i7, nvidia 435m, and 8gb ram configuration on 1st of Nov... Initially the EDD was 24 Nov, after a week i waited, it changed to 15 Nov, and it has been delivered to me on last Saturday, 13 Nov. 13 days including weekend and working days, not bad.

@makubexong,
Fast and responsive generally. Startup time slower, due to Dell's numerous softwares. Took 2 DVDs to create the factory restore discs. Temperature acceptable, slightly warm over the touchpad, and left region of the keyboard. Noise is negligible under normal surfing, unless you have started playing games, the fan noise will become quite prominent after it works at full speed. The size of the laptop is generally longer than the average 15.4 inch laptop. Speakers sound quality is good. However the bass is rather "tight", not so natural. Webcam works fine under adequate lightning. Use MiniDisplay port to VGA port adapter, if you like to do presentation using old projector, in my case, I bought the original Apple adapter, RM99 with 1 year warranty, works fine. The harddisk bay is not readily accessible, have to remove the top cover of the laptop (including touchpad) in case you want to upgrade the storage device to SSD.

Added on November 17, 2010, 8:51 pm@Casperwinde, i didn't order backlit keyboard, it might look stylish, but afterall it still consumes more battery (u can adjust the brightness anyway).

Added on November 17, 2010, 9:06 pmPlease note that i didn't order 1080p screen also. Maybe that is the thing that causes delay? For me 768p resolution is fair enough, and comfortable. 1366x768 resolution on 14 inch is simply... too small and not good for my shortsightedness eyes, lol. With RM400, i think we might as well get a better monitor with even higher resolution and screen size tongue.gif

@lengnui89, just open windows mobility center to change the Fn key behaviour. To access it, simply press the shorcut button over the touch panel over the right top of the keyboard, the place where you can c Waves Maxx Audio thing. If not sure about where to look for it, go to start, type windows mobility center and search for it. You don't need to access BIOS to change Fn key behavior smile.gif

@J.J: Ahaha, it is good to get a DVD media. If you want faster startup time, better reinstall windows 7 and install only necessary drivers, Dell quickset, and webcam software. Make sure you have created factory restore discs (2 DVDs required) before format your laptop smile.gif

Score for harddisk date transfer rate can be improved, if upgrade it to SSD, or maybe Seagate Momentus XT.

The specs I ordered: -
i7, 435, 6GB,

Otherwise, everything stock standard.
Cannot understand their statements.

The funny thing is that after receiving notification of deferment to 25/11, I wrote back to complain stating I am willing to accept until 18/11 only. Anything more I will not have time to backup my software before leaving for overseas. The DELL guy wrote back stating they have "HELPED" and will rush it.

When I receive the shitty email today - I really blew my top. Their meaning of help is more deferment.

Any recommendation of other brands - with reliable customer service?

Well, why not you go and buy the laptop from retail store? You get what see straight. For customer service, Dell might not be the best, but their service is good to some extent, but not every time.
A42JA i7 is an alternative with comparable spec to dell XPS 15. RM3599 i7-740QM 1.73 GHz, 6M Cache 14.0” ATI 5730 2GB DDR3 4GB DDR3 640 GB 2.20KG W.7 HP. 2 years warranty by default.
If wanna save money,
Aspire 4820TG-5462G64MN, RM2699 I5-460M 2.53GHz 3MB L3 14.0" ATI 5650 1GB DDR3 2 GB DDR 3 640 GB 2.18KG W.7 HP. Just spend another few hundreds to upgrade the RAM.

Here is example for i7/435 temperature... no external cooling solution used.
Note that after reach max gaming temperature, the temperature dropped 30 Celsius 1 minute after stop gaming. Fan noise also diminished drastically.

I haven't encounter any overheating issue with i7 and nvidia 435m configuration... played fallout new vegas, COD: black ops, all with high settings and max resolution (1366x768). i didn't use laptop cooler.
