QUOTE(izputra @ Nov 15 2010, 02:52 AM) Sorry bro, i dont get it either. Both rims are the same in term of size (diameter) & using back the same tyres (i presume u did not do tyre rotation also), but the speedo gives significantly different speed reading..how come? Rotational speed (of the tyre&rim) are related to its radius (or diameter) right? Since there's no change in diameter for both rims (14" in this case), the speedo should recorded the same speed reading for both rims also (provided the same tyres are installed back at the same position as it was on the previous rims + same tyre pressure for both 'experiment'). That's why i failed to understand your above statement (different speed readings). I dont think the different in rim materials will affect the speed reading. Now your data collecting methods & procedures (comparing speedo & GPS speed readings) are highly questionable...Again, no offence... +++1..!!Other experts here please shed some light for third party confirmation (did not want my comment to mislead others if i'm wrong). TQ physics never cease to amaze me |

QUOTE(letmein @ Nov 19 2010, 11:42 PM) Last week I went to PJ using Lebuhraya Mahameru from KL. The road was wet with drizzling rain. alamak bro, maybe i also should reconsider about downgrading to 15"..In front of me, there was a Vios (probably the latest version) cruising at about 100km/h at the fast lane and I was following right behind but kept a safe distance of about 4-5 cars space. When passing under the parliament bridge where the big curve to right, all a sudden the Vios rear starts skidding to left and start spinning 360 degree! you saw in the movie. I sense the danger and immediately engage the brake to avoid direct hit to the Vios. When I pressed the brake, I heard a sound “kluk” from the rear and felt the car like being pressed down. I felt the slippery for a fraction of a second but later was the traction of tire that I knew I am still going straight. The Vios spin for at least 3 rounds before it stopped in the middle of the road and luckily it did not hit the side crash barrier and no car from the left. I didn’t manage to stop by but I saw 2 passengers at the front seat with terrifying face. It was the first time I saw a car spinning in front of me and later I remembered my colleague had the same experience with his Vios (older version) at Kerinchi Link where it also happened when the road is wet. My colleague told me his car tires were having plenty of thread. Before this I was still thinking to downgrade the 17” rim to 15” for more comfortable ride but now I think wider tires have better grip. The lesson that I learn is slowdown when the road is wet and try to keep a safe distance from vehicle in front. I guess our car ESP really works. QUOTE(XionCity @ Jan 3 2011, 03:23 PM) u muz b dreaming too bro..i think what he meant was, change a lighter 17" rims, and use the same stock tyres..and IT WONT AFFECT the speedometer reading..have u been reading the previous post? i think our brother izputra has already explained it thoroughly how the wheels radius will affect/wont affect the speedometer reading..as long as you are sticking with the 3% rims size rules. dont confused |

QUOTE(vaio pavilion @ Jan 19 2011, 08:49 AM) A silly question maybe. method no 2. so far no problem. How do you start your car guys? i mean SX. 1) press break and push start button directly. 2) push start button twice (starting battery 1st) wait all the signal light off then press break and push start button to start. 1 or 2? I have a problem. if i start by method 1, i can start easily no problem. if i start by method 2, sometimes i will encounter "press break" signal. althogh i already pressed! and i can feel that the break is jam. not always but it did happened few times... all bros! please help~~~~~!!!!!!!! |
