Flashing is very easy actually, read the front page, got step by step guide; Once you do it, you'll know how easy and fast.

You need to download the firmware first. Then flashing can be done within 5 minutes.
It will clean install the OS, so backup your data using the Backup Option in settings.
You can restore everything later after you reflash.

For less problems, make sure you're using Windows XP, in short, you can connect your N900 to your PC successfully via USB Cable (able to detect and connect to OVI/PC Suite.)

Follow the fontpage guide.Rename the files & follow the instructions.
There is even graphical guide.
Copy paste the exact command from frontpage.Sometime missing/wrong command causes this.

I had an experience with one app from extras-devel that caused a problem. An app called flashlight-extra i think. After removing the app, there was a constant cpu usage of ~8%, so it was draining my batt continuously.  Traced it to some files left after uninstalling... had to remove it manually...

Well.. just an example of issues you can encounter.  Not to put you off or anything ... hehe

it depends. 7% cpu usage when running @ 250Mhz is ok

lets say you OC to 900Mhz and it takes up 7% then something might be wrong.

so always see what is your processor clock speed in Mhz when it says 7%.

installing conky would be a good idea.

that should be normal...mine is 20%!!!!
