I'm not a Timeline owner but a similar Aspire 4745G with i5 430M 2.26GHz.

Just wanna know is my system getting hot after almost a year? Also, isn't 20% battery wear a bit fast?
For half a year I use the laptop regularly for studies.

The temperatures are not too bad. Is it a hot day when you take the screenshot? My Asus idle temps are around 40C to 45C. During regular usages (browsing, watching movies) the temps around 50C to 60C (depend on room temperature).

The battery wear level a bit ridiculous for almost a year notebook. Anyway, I didn't find it surprise though. My old acer notebooks (14" & 17") also loose battery capacity very fast (less than one year). Did you always let the battery charges drained very low?

overclocking will not damage your GPU /CPU immediately if u go in small steps  smile.gif

Usually only increases temperature of the core

With sufficient cooling, GPU/CPU can be overclocked to extreme values  brows.gif

Problem is , with crysis 2 , cant even maintain a stable 30 fps during heavy scenes . ( My 4820tg ) ,

Overclocking a little to improve FPS and gain a few degrees heat wont harm you rightt  rclxms.gif

Just make sure your laptop has sufficient space to cool itself .. i put 2 erasers underneath the laptop on the rear to lift it up at an angle to increase airflow ( helps a little )
*
Yeah, I agree. GPU/CPU has their own safety mechanism that can prevent hardware failure from occurred.

Also, about the battery. I always use my laptop in campus, there's quite a lot of time where I use it until it's almost low.
When I'm in the library, I would take out the battery. But for the 3 months, I practically left the batt. and power plugged all the time in my home. It changed after that.

As for battery level, for Intel, I mostly get 2 hours out of it now with moderate brightness. Haven't tested with ATI GPU fully though but I'm guessing it's lower a bit.
*
It's not good idea to let it drained too low but I guess you don't have much choice though. BTW, no need to take out the battery unless there is a design flaw on the notebook cooling system. I mean if the battery exposed to the heat from inside the notebook because of bad cooling system (the battery feels too warm), of course you'll need to take out the battery if you use AC adapter. Battery are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. It will degrade much faster. On my dell, battery always plugged in & after 1 year the wear level still 9% since the last 6 to 7 months.

y got this problem? i installed 4th times only succeed! how to solve it?
Uninstall the ATI software. Then look in C:\Program Files & C:\Program Files (x86). Delete all ATI folder. OR use driver sweeper. Reboot & then try install again. This brute-force method usually works.

will investigate about firepro later... now reading this:

http://acer.it168.com/thread-1315933-1-1.html

that guy undevolt 6550 in idle, and overvolt when need power, sound like my type of person. ^o^ he done that on 4820tg... duno how to do in 3820tg...

apparently, the missing step which most people fail in notebookreview forum is that, they did not hex edit the ATI BIOS. i cant find that string in OPROM01... looks like gonna eat a lot of my time if i need to reverse OPROM01... -.-
*
Actually it's not a missing step. There are two ways to undervolt/overvolt; software & VBIOS mod. For software, you can try Sapphire TRIXX.

Apparently still no one can adjust the voltage in 3820tg's 5650... it's just too much work to mod bios and all! wish there is a tool that i can just use  tongue.gif
*
To mod VBIOS, you can use RBE (Radeon BIOS editor).

In that case, I guess I can skip it ?
*
You can skip it. It just set sub-vendor id (usually card/notebook manufacturer; Dell, Acer, etc).

EDIT: I know why he/she set the sub-vendor ID. He/she need to set it to 0x1025 (Acer) because by default it set to 0x0000. If didn't change it, RBE will refused to save the ROM file. Can skipped this step if sub-vendor ID not 0x0000.

EDIT 2: I don't understand why he/she HEX edit the VBIOS & increased the overdrive limit.

It's confusing for me as well, first he set it using RBE to 0x1025. Then using Winhex, he looks for 0x1025 and change that to 0x0000... according to the author, somehow, this steps is irrelevant for voltage and frequency ...  sweat.gif

so, using RBE alone should have work?!
*
Yeah, it's not related to voltage & clocks mod. RBE v1.27 & lower produced error when trying to save the ROM file if the sub-vendor ID is 0x0000.
user posted image
RBE v1.28 don't have this bug, so don't need to change the sub-vendor ID.

RBE alone should work but hasn't tested it myself (undervolt/overvolt). I only change the core & memory clocks.

The one I'm trying is for SXPS 16 tongue.gif

As for that guide, the problem I'm having is can't find the SLIC file, I tried ACPI03.ROM, ACPI04.ROM but it says SLIC wrong size file...
*
No need to select SLIC file. Just make sure select "No SLIC" in the Advanced options window.

bad news, voltage remain at 1v...  shakehead.gif

i still wanna try something out...

i was following exactly steps from this tutorial (only that, i increase the voltage even though when he advised not to):

http://acer.it168.com/thread-1271947-1-1.html
*
Maybe you increased the voltage too much. Try increment by 0.1.

I think just skipped the Additional Feature part.

Maybe too small. Try 1.1. tongue.gif

Try tested it with AMD GPU Clock Tool.

I think Acer put cheap voltage regulator that don't allow undervolt or overvolt.

Probably locked to only 0.9 & 1.0. Sometime manufacturer put cheap voltage regulator which won't allow you to increased or decreased the voltage manually.

hmm, after enable No SLIC, now can pack the new BIOS...
Flash or not to flash...
No pendrive available for Crisis Disk...

For the BIOS.WPH
Is it this file BIOSCOD00.ROM renamed to that ?
Here got BIOSCOD00.ROM until BIOSCOD08.ROM
*
If the original BIOS is BIOS.WPH, the modified BIOS is BIOS_SLIC.WPH. BIOSCOD00.ROM is just one of the BIOS modules. You can ignored it. The BIOSCOD0x.ROM should not change because it's not related to VBIOS mod. Only one of the OPROM0x.ROM is modified.

EDIT: For VBIOS mod (undervolt/overvolt or underclock/overclock), only one OPROM0x.ROM change. Everything else should identical.
(For example - Left: original BIOS. Right: modified BIOS)

Yes, put the original BIOS (renamed to BIOS.WPH) in the CRISIS disk. The hotkey to trigger the BIOS recovery mode on Dell Studio is the "End" key. You already know right?

You can skip this part because it's redundant:-
2. In the SLIC file, point to ACPI05.ROM found in the DUMP folder
3. Use RW-Everything, dump the ACPI table (Access->ACPI Table)
4. In PhoenixTool's "RW File", point to that ACPI dump.

Just tick "No SLIC" in the Advanced options window. "No SLIC" just means you don't want to alter the existing SLIC in the BIOS. The existing SLIC will be intact.

One of my Radeon HD4570 feature is Stream processor which I understand to improve video decoding. I really forgot about this feature until someone asked me.
user posted image

Interestingly, with ATI Catalyst 11.3 & 11.4, Stream information in AIDA64 is empty. With older version, 10.11, I can see the Stream information in AIDA64 (see picture above). With CyberLink MediaEspresso, the Radeon logo appeared while converting video.

Anyone interested testing this on their notebook?

Later I try to get it, trial version should be enough ?

You can google it. Someone nice enough shared it. tongue.gif I can't post the link here but you can easily find it. I'm just using it for testing the ATI Stream processor.

EDIT: BTW, I chose the .mkv file because I found the MediaEspresso decode the video first, then encode it.

I noticed it takes longer time converting the same video on my Asus. Probably because it has less processing power (processor) than Dell.

My crippled HD4570 still using 10.11 driver because it is the best driver for it. I only updated the Catalyst Control Center. I know WEI (Windows Experience Index) doesn't show true performance but Graphic score reduced from 5.1 to 5.0 with 11.1, 11.3 & 11.4. It reduced more to 4.9 with 11.5.

That takes longer than mine. I forgot to mention that I convert the video for PSP. How long it take if you enable both hardware encoding & hardware decoding?
