Hi, my 4820TG is slightly older version with i5-450M, 14", 500GB and only 2GB DDR3 RAM. Not too smooth atm so thinking to upgrade RAM.

Preloaded with x86 W7 so my question is how much RAM can this lappy take in? 4GB or 8GB as some of the googling i did shows 4GB and some 8GB.

So it's better to get a 4GB stick or 2x2GB stick then? Can you guys tell me the price of 4GB RAM also smile.gif

On the lappy it says DDR3 but the reviews/spec says

Standard Memory Maximum Memory Memory Expansion CPU Type Model/Chipset
1GB 8GB
PC2-6400 DDR2-800 200pin SDRAM SODIMM 2 (2 banks of 1) Intel Core i5 Processor
Intel HM55 Chipset

Planning to format in a few days. Last time i format this laptop things didn't go so well despite getting all the drivers from a reputable website.

Main issues i got was

1. Problem when switching the GPU. The screen go black for a while like normal and there are black lines on the screen after the GPU changed.

2. Sound. Have to click the sound icon beside the clock to get "real" sound.

3. Battery life. Despite using the Intel GPU i only get ~2 hours max instead of 7 using this factory pre-installed W7.

So i got quite pissed and restored the pre-installed W7 now.

So, any specific site should i use to get the correct drivers i need and advice for me so i dont fail again? biggrin.gif

Why want to format ?

Apparently after 6 months performance wise it's getting much laggier in game despite of daily virus scanning/defragging/uninstall crap yawn.gif

Just formatted

Got Warning after installing icon_question.gif

11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl 85.7 MB

Which is weird because i used it the last time i updated.

Guys, what essential drivers should i install?

Realtek HD Audio, Broadcom WLAN, Intel HD Graphics etc

Also can't change brightness atm doh.gif

Thanks for the info cowithgun. I forgot about the discrete mode then i got black screen. watafak.

Pardon my noobness but what does Launch Manager do? I've installed from your link and reboot and i don't see any change. Is it the animations when i increase the volume using the Fn key?

Also, how do i make it auto change from ATI to Intel when i change to Battery mode?
