I've quite a few problems running it.
Battery value not showing, ACPI related.

me, you'll need a BIOS update for that. Thats what fixed mine.

Okay, my laptop's 4745G but it's similar to this so might as well just ask.

Where/How do I do it?

Any of you guys have a problem running Ubuntu 10.10 on any Acer laptops?

It seems their bios is strictly WIndows-only.
Mine can't detect the status of the battery even if I changed my kernel.

I'm not a Timeline owner but a similar Aspire 4745G with i5 430M 2.26GHz.

Just wanna know is my system getting hot after almost a year? Also, isn't 20% battery wear a bit fast?
For half a year I use the laptop regularly for studies.

If that is your idle temperature, i think it's quite hot (am comparing with my model.. idle 4x). Have you try check with other 4745G user? i briefly check in this forum, apparently the idle temp is 3x!

Try clean the fan...

About battery wear of 20% i think it's too much. But need not worry, this is mostly due to incorrect value after long usage. A calibration of the battery will most likely correct this. To do this correctly, follow this step:

1. Fully charge the battery to its maximum capacity (100%);
2. Let the battery "rest" fully charged for 2 hours or more. You may use the computer normally within this period;
3. Go to your Power Options in the Control Panel and configure the automatic hibernation to hibernate the computer when it reaches 3% of capacity. If you cannot set the 3% value, just set the minimum value you can;
4. Leave the computer discharging, non-stop, until it hibernates itself. You may use the computer normally within this period;
5. When the computer shuts down completely, let it stay in the hibernation state for 5 hours or even more;
6. Plug the computer to the A/C power to perform a full charge non-stop until its maximum capacity (100%). You may use the computer normally within this period.

ur temp too hot for me.. 20% wear mean u always use the battery with ur plug on often!

Only for the 1st 3 months and it changed after that. Most likely frequent outdoor usage?

The temperatures are not too bad. Is it a hot day when you take the screenshot? My Asus idle temps are around 40C to 45C. During regular usages (browsing, watching movies) the temps around 50C to 60C (depend on room temperature).

The battery wear level a bit ridiculous for almost a year notebook. Anyway, I didn't find it surprise though. My old acer notebooks (14" & 17") also loose battery capacity very fast (less than one year). Did you always let the battery charges drained very low?

Yeah, I agree. GPU/CPU has their own safety mechanism that can prevent hardware failure from occurred.

Yeah. It's Sunday. LOL
Was on the whole day. Find it peculiar so I thought I'd share.
But now, for today, the temp idles at 45C - 52C. In A/C-ed room, I will get 30 - 34C as I've just checked this afternoon.

Also, about the battery. I always use my laptop in campus, there's quite a lot of time where I use it until it's almost low.
When I'm in the library, I would take out the battery. But for the 3 months, I practically left the batt. and power plugged all the time in my home. It changed after that.

As for battery level, for Intel, I mostly get 2 hours out of it now with moderate brightness. Haven't tested with ATI GPU fully though but I'm guessing it's lower a bit.
