we all know weather has been hot recently, even my room dun have window connecting to outside i also beh tahan the heat.....so i came up with this.
Do u all think it will work? constructive critism plz.
Science my contribution to mandkind2, the mini aircond

how often u need to change the ice? every 10 mins?
if use dry ice, how are u gonna make it auto refill? |

Have u seen an air cooler before? Same principle, just add water and/or ice and cool air comes out. Perhaps you should invest in one of those.

if u dun mind paying more, air-con always the most effective way to cold down d room temp. nowadays air con doesnt consume electric as much as last time.

QUOTE(FLampard @ Oct 19 2010, 11:00 PM) Yes, it will work as this has the same principal as an air cooler but your design need major improvement as it is not efficient. In fact, very wasteful of energy.Maybe, you should think of WHY is your room hot and how to cool it down? |

Don't get discouraged. Just so happen you're not early enough. The concept is good. The main criticism from all the above amounts to "you're too late". Well, it's not your fault you weren't born 120 years ago.
When you come up with something else, post it here. |

Still on the stepping stone...
Your idea is logical but not practical meaning the design makes sense but won't be as good as an ordinary fan... Advice? Keep it up and think creatively and laterally... 2 cents from a thinker... |

I think coolers based on this concept is already available where the ice cubes need to be constantly replaced....
Some (especially the Chinese) say its actually not good for the body due to the damp air... |

Don't laugh at the idea of ice cubes. I wish I had the source, But I have read of american city towers using ice cubes to supplement the cooling systems during summer, because when the ice cubes get VERY large, they are tremendously efective (way more effective than normal air conditioning heat exchange units). At the end of the day, the melted ice is still cool and easy to refreeze. The total energy savings are quite substantial. Maybe if you're interested you can google it up ( =

Simple idea may turn out to be more effective if the idea to deploy them is right not based on the drawing above like reinvent the existing technology.

The energy of the fan to constantly blow at the ice. Compare with air-con who does not have to freeze water into ice at the start. |

This is a thing called air-con that using this concept.
The refrigerant in the compressor in your "ice" lah, don't need so troublesome, energy inefficient to replace ice. This post has been edited by cherroy: Oct 25 2010, 05:46 PM |

this concept ady available in the market long time ago.
I not able to get the pic.. but then the shape is look like a Mini fridge / air purifier. U can remove back cover to put the ice into a box behind. Then refill once the ice melted. Its china made if not mistaken. But then throw it since not really 100% works. Troublesome refill ice, and its not really cold like air-cond. And noisy of course. Updated: Its Air Cooler Fan. google it for pics. thx This post has been edited by MsPopcorn: Oct 25 2010, 09:18 PM |

Pity it is not efficient enough to sustain the ice cube as it will melt. Instead of re-invent air cond , personally I think it is a good idea for TS to do research how to keep the cubes in solid form to be used in other application

QUOTE(FLampard @ Oct 19 2010, 11:00 PM) Actually I've thought of something similar. When it gets too hot, and you need to cool down fast without the equipment.Just get some ice, and place them infront of a table fan facing you. Good work, keep it up. |

go places with aircond, so they don waste energy and you'll get good temperature.. |

Maybe if you're interested you can google it up ( = i concur. my faculty uses such cooling system.at night when energy needs are at its lowest, the system uses up electricity to freeze the water. during the day, the ice is used to chill water, which is then circulated throughout the building. the chilled water runs thru coils in the air ducts, which in turn chills the air. very cost effective for large complexes, considering the cost of water over refrigerants. if i'm not mistaken, one such system will be built in putrajaya too. i knew this when one of their consulting engineers came to our faculty to give a talk. |

TS,
i don this is not so practical. further innovation need to be made so that it become a nice invention. Plus, this is more likely to be a simple machine to speread the cool air from the ice, but not a mini air conditioner. |
