Insurance claim for birth? are you sure this is possible? Is there even such a thing? hmmm...

Pardon my intrusion, as my purpose here is to provide information. If I'm interrupting in your conversation, please do let me know and I'll leave.

As a parent myself all of us hope to have healthy babies and to see the bundle of joy giving you massage (my 5 year old does smile.gif) when you come home at night is the greatest feeling a dad will ever have (of course during that time her hand will 'accidentally' massage your shirt pocket for coins for her piggy bank but I'm not complaining).

However, how prepared are we should the baby is born with congenital issue?

A friend of mine had baby with a hole in the heart and is spending ~RM 30K per annum at Gleneagles PG. The child is now 4 years of age. How he wished we had launched the PruEarly Start & PruBest Start product.

WHAT DOES IT COVER FOR THE BABY?

1. As you may had already know, if the baby is born healthy, there isn't much issue to get the child covered. However, should the baby is born with congenital condition, no insurance would want to provide coverage. This is where Prudential Early/Best Start comes in.

Bridging the gap and it covers the following congenital condition and reimburse hospitalization claims of up to RM 25K per annum (up to age 2).

Anal atresia, Atrial Septal Defect. Congenital Cataract, Congenital Deafness, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, Infantile Hydrocephalus, Tetralogy of Fallot, Transposition of Great Vessels, Truncus Arteriosus, Ventricular Septal Defect

2. ICU / HDU for Premature Birth: PruEarly Start RM300 daily, PruBest Start RM 500 daily (max 30 days)

3. Incubation of new born child immediately following birth: PruEarly Start RM 100 daily, PruBest Start RM200 daily (max 60 days)

4. Death of Infant (within 30 days of birth): Total premiums paid or total value of units in account, whichever is higher

WHAT DOES IT COVER FOR THE MOTHER?

1. Pays up to RM 5K (Only for PRU Best Start) for the pregnancy complication for the mother for the following condition:- Eclampsia, Abruptio placentae, Amniotic fluid embolism

2. Death of Foetus: Total premiums paid or total value of units in account, whichever is higher

Note: This is an insurance product that is tied to the performance of the underlying assets, and is not a pure investment product such as unit trusts

The brochure can be found here http://www2.prudential.com.my/corp/prudent.../PMCPESPBS.html

One can take up this plan for the unborn child as early as 18 weeks (up until 35 weeks) into your pregnancy and if you are between 18 – 45 years of age next birthday.

PM me if you need further information on the PruEarly Start & PruBest Start

Again, please accept my apology for the intrusion.

During the few hours of her contraction, the doctor brought few students into the room and let them monitor when the doctor is examine my sister, which made my sister feel very embarrassed showing her private part to strangers(not doctor/nurse). During her delivery complications occurs which doctor decided to use forceps, i'm not sure whether it's the doctor who is not experience enough or what, eventually there are some tears inside the vaginal caused by the forceps, so stitching had to be done inside the vaginal, and guess what, stitching was done pretty bad that cause heavy bleeding after my sister was sent back to room to rest.

Wow, I hope she's okay? It must be quite an ordeal for her. I don't think this will ever happen at a private hospital.

Total delivery cost for my baby in May 2012 = <RM50 (including charges for baby)

Delivered in Penang Government Hospital, natural birth with epidural (i requested for epidural a month before my delivery and they allowed as i'm asthmatic + 1st baby)

p/s: they only gave me a small doze of epidural as i was already 7cm dilated at that point.

2 days 1 night at 3rd class ward. For the price I paid, I got no complaints. The nurses and trainee doctors gathered around and cheered for me when I was pushing. Had more than 10 audience in the labor room =)

My episiotomy was stitched by a staff nurse and she was very professional. Healed well and they were really helpful. The only down side was when the houseman tried to insert the catheter, it was darn painful.

Never thought that I'll be having so many people cheering for me though. Was in instense pain that time, didn't even bother who else is watching other than the doctor. Hubs told me that the whole team was filled with spirit cos I was the only patient left in the labor room when they're changing shifts. So ended up with lots of audience =)

Baby was all cleaned and passed back to me for the first latch within 30 minutes. Nurses were very patient in guiding me. Definitely no regrets going to a government hospital.

+2 for Government Hospitals, especially when they actually takes in patients who are elderly above age 85 which would be commonly rejected at private hospital.

By the way, who was the gynae doctor at the Penang GH?

My humble opinion is always stick to the gynae and hospital where your wife do check up in, if it's Pantai, then let delivery be at Pantai then.

Anyway, as an FYI, Lam Wah Ee Hospital LWEH standard C-Sec with no complexity staying in a Deluxe Single Bed room is only Rm4.8k

I am really shock to see some charges goes up to RM12k for C-Sec !! yawn.gif:O:O

LWEH is by far the most reasonably charged hospital... thumbup.gif for LWEH
