I delivered my son at Sarmukh in Setapak for about RM4k+ (C-Sec) in 2009. At that time, normal delivery was about RM1.5k.

I was planning for normal but ended up C-Sec as son was overdue for 10 days and his head is not engaged yet and me not even dilated! Even if i opted to be induced...doc will cut me open as well...so after 10days..i straightaway opted for C-Sec.

Talk about planning!

Emergency C-sect IS expensive. I was in the same boat too, suppose to go for normal delivery but ended up with an emergency c-sect. After that stayed at the hospital for 5 days. They charge you for your normal delivery AND C-sect too. My bill was RM10k!

Sometimes, I wonder if the hospital purposely advise you to undergo normal (but somehow knowingly that you will end up with an emergency c-sect)?

My doc advised me to go for c-sect as I wasn't even dilated (I was 10 days overdue)...though he did say if i wanted to try to be induced, he can do it but for sure that i will end up in c-sect.

A cousin of mine also was given an emergency c-sect as baby was in distress.

menj...just be prepared as sometimes..it's your baby who decides how he/she wants to come out to this world.

Yeah, after reading this thread I guess its best to be prepared. I am setting a budget of RM10K for this, think this is enough?

It all depends where your wife is going to deliver. As for me, i deliverd in a maternity clinic in Setapak..for c-sec..Less than 5K. I took the option to do c-sec as my son was overdue for 10 days and he hasn't even engaged into the birth canal. Thus, doc said that there are less chance of going thru a normal birth. He did say that if i wanted to try..he will induce but then there's a high chance of going into an emergency c-sect (thus double fees).
