After studying in PPUM for the past 3+ years, I would advise people NOT TO COME if they have a choice.

Why? First of all, this is a university hospital, and that equates to STUDENTS. It is unfair to the students if you refuse to be clerked/examined/delivered by students (they're the ones in the white coats with clipboards) especially if it's in the middle of the night and the doctors on-call are in OT or handling a risky case. Students are required to deliver babies and we have been trained to do so.

#2: The new wing is currently understaffed and underutilized. Yes, we can fit more people in, but we still have the same number of staff.

#3: PPUM gets a lot of referrals for high-risk pregnancies, so if suddenly when you're labouring and another person who has a high-risk pregnancy is in labour at the same time, please don't get angry if the obgyn on-call goes to see that other patient first. This is assuming that there is only one high-risk case at the time. On a bad day, you may only see housemen and students until the time of delivery >_<

So it's your choice really. What's good about delivering in PPUM is that there are better facilities and specialists, especially when compared to government hospitals. Risky pregnancies/labour will be in good hands, but normal ones are generally left to housemen and midwives (and students) which usually isn't a problem smile.gif

And price would be cheaper compared to other private hospitals.
