Hi all, I would like to share my experience at Gleneagles in 2013 with you all. We paid about RM7.5k for induction (baby was huge, delivered at 3.9kg), natural birth (assisted with forceps) + epidural + laughing gas (lots of it since my epidural didn't work, I could feel/move both my legs and pain the entire 7 hour since contraction started) and 2 night stay in a single room. Baby only had borderline jaundice so no need to stay extra nights. Is it normal to have such an expensive delivery due to induction?

My gynae was Dr Jean Woo, she's very knowledgeable/ experienced (she removed my fibroid few years back) but I must say she's not the most patient doc out there. She poke my water bag at about 1pm and my dilation was really slow. Hence I started pushing only at 9cm dilation after several hours. By then I was exhausted due to too much pain/ laughing gas and without food since almost 24 hours ago. She also suggested that I go into emergency c sec straight away but I just kept quiet as I wanted natural delivery. But the nurses were super helpful and motivating, they were cheering and encouraging me all the time, I wouldn't have done it without them!

My anaesthetist was Dr Lew. I am really scared of pain and disappointed that I had a lot of epidural + top up but none of it worked on me. Until today I am not sure what went wrong, even he told us himself after checking me that he didn't know why. So if you're really scared of pain and are going to deliver at Gleneagles, pls tell them specifically that NO Dr Lew. If not you might be traumatised like I did.

I think with a RM7.5k budget, you can really go for a lot of other newer/ better maintained hospitals. The rooms in Gleneagles are really old and definitely need some repainting work done.

Hi Yunarie,

May I know how long your pregnancy trimester was? With such a huge baby, is your pregnancy overdue by 42 weeks? My baby currently estimated due date would be around this week and the baby is huge weighing around 3.8kg after measuring his body size and weight. Went to Hospital Umra and the doctor say the baby is big and need to do cesarean instead of natural birth.

During your time, did your doctor advise you to do a cesarean? My wife wanted natural but seek 2 doctors' opinion, and they advised for cesarean because the pregnancy is overdue and the baby is too big. Not sure whether they just want to earn $$ from doing a cesarean instead of natural.  unsure.gif

Hihi I was actually induced at 38 weeks! Can you imagine if I were to deliver at 40 weeks? But then again I ate A LOT! Hence the baby was huge. BTW the scan is usually not that accurate, Dr estimated the baby to weigh more than 4kg but came out only 3.9kg. Dr did not mention once that I need to do cesarean, I always ask if I can deliver naturally since the baby is huge but she always assures me its fine as she had delivered other bigger babies with smaller mummies. I think at the end of the day it boils down to the dr whether they are pro natural or not. I would say Dr Jean Woo is definitely pro natural. Hope this helps!
