em... no need for shading first lah, try drawing the outline of ur character without any shading.... i also suck at shading....

can use photoshop to colour ur pic and do shading smile.gif

here's a quick one with photoshop 5mins or less biggrin.gif
both are in jpeg form....don't know if it really matters, as long as the compression isn't too lousy (or lossy) i guess...

too bad my skill has gone rusty, i can't even draw up to that standard of mine now. sad.gif

it's not exactly a vector if you use photoshop.
looks vector but still not vector.
it's better if you learn using illustrator or freehand.

yup, hehe...cos' that one i just simply do one
steps:
1)artistic -> cut-out effect
2)and some unsharpen mask
3)play with curves

voila...vector in less than 5 mins smile.gif
spend more time if you wanna have a nicer effect.
