Common Kelvin White Balance Settings :
2500K - very strong orange tungsten light
2800K - strong orange tungsten light
3200K - yellowish tungsten light
4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it)
5500K - flash
6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light)
9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light

Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.

Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You

should be able to do this with practice.

With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!

M = Magenta
G = Green
2500K = Blue
9900K = Amber

Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is

too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K

M9.

To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these

methods, or a combination of them:

- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11)
- use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100)
- use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a

second)
- use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash

need to ask pro-sifu's opinion on this matter.. coz my eye cant detect the difference.. hahaha...

but the good Filters are Hoya HD, Pro-Tama...

and high end ones are... Carl Zeiss, B+W.. which cost a bomb.

Me and my friend tried something stupid yesterday. ND500 + ND400 + CPL => 19 Stops... we get pitch black picture regardless of the shutter speed blush.gif

Anyone knows the maximum stops we can stack with ND Filters?

On LCW ND500 => 9 Stops. I manage to get 4 seconds on very hot day.

I never tried it on BULB mode. I left it to my friend to experiment it with 7D, I guess max he tried is till 20 - 30 seconds.

Pretty pointless to do in 5-10 minutes unless I own a remote timer.

most sifus here say if ur gonna use cheap filters... might as well dont use any... and isnt there a filters thread in the forum?

yuhi: haha I first... but didnt want to say.. later kena vacation...

hazril: no no, im not comparing RAW and Jpeg.. of course RAW is better... i mean the ExtraFine Jpeg against the JPEG in the RAW + JPEG setting...

here:

• RAW (.ARW 2.0)
• Compressed or uncompressed RAW option
• RAW + JPEG Fine
• JPEG Extra Fine
• JPEG Fine
• JPEG Standard

these are all the a700 choices of files...

so obviously the JPEG Extra fine would be much better than the JPEG fine in the (RAW + JPEG setting) right?

this is want i want to know... tongue.gif

very legit reason actually XD

I kinda prefer the old skool OVF over the newer EVF actually. Yea waiting slowly for the baby to come, hopefully by the end of this month.

My sole problem is the price however. Too pricey and sadly, i wont be able to afford it >">

d4rkholeang3l: Nice stripes! Could be less tightly framed.

I don't find anything natural about Nikon skin tones. You can different Creative Styles (and make sure your WB is correct) but I do prefer Sony skin tones.

cassplayer: Yes there is a Sony-mount version. It can be used for event photography also as a beauty dish - just make sure to hold the ring upwards, pointing at the subject like a shower head.

ahpingko: For #6 the crop on her arm is a bit weird. Otherwise, I like the choice of background. You can also stand from a higher viewpoint and aim down, to get less of the trees.

I would prefer the compositions on #2 and #4 and #10 (but without the tilt)

eddybeh: The Vivitar 85mm F1.4 is the same as the Samyang/Opteka and does not cost so much!

gjtan: For #2 I like how you've shot it at an angle to avoid parallax distortion, but you could avoid cropping the top and bottom bit.

rajatetra: There isn't a "HD" filter, but uh... it is a bit higher priced than normal.

wingster: Be brave, shoot skaters with a wide. biggrin.gif

blowsh: Cam1 - B. Cam2 - A/C. Focus 1/3rds into the scene.

a b c d e doesn't matter. You're shooting a group and want everyone to be in focus, so use a flash and F8-F16 (do your test shots before they all sit down.)

Mikeshashimi: I can't say that about Pro-Tama. Yes, JPG+RAW means regular Fine JPG and not Extra Fine.

Bulb in hot sun with strong ND filter is not a problem.

wha7ever: Use a F1.4 lens then. biggrin.gif

sonyx: Try with or without the WWW prefix. It seems to be a domain problem. It works on mine.

chiahau: Either end of October or November.

chiahau: RM2xxx for sure. The A580 is meant to be an A550 replacement and as such will not be priced any higher than what it was when it was launched. The A55 with kit lens is also under RM3k.

Also, if you are broke, should you be buying a camera?

I've uploaded a video from the A55 + Zeiss 135mm F1.8:

The A55 seems to have different characteristics when recording audio compared to the NEX-5. I am not an audiophile though so I can't say that as a scientific fact.

hey there alpha-rians..

i read that sony alpha SLT a55 got reduce the 30% of light from entering the sensor..

is it that obvious? cuz i also read some where that at ISO 100(even in low light conditions),the image is likely the same as the canon 550D..

yeah the canon got a slightly smaller sensor btw

so wut do guys hav to say about this?

thanks in advance smile.gif

i read that sony alpha SLT a55 got reduce the 30% of light from entering the sensor..

is it that obvious? cuz i also read some where that at ISO 100(even in low light conditions),the image is likely the same as the canon 550D..

yeah the canon got a slightly smaller sensor btw

so wut do guys hav to say about this?

thanks in advance smile.gif
*
translucent mirror design will reflects 30% of light to the AF sensor on top and 70% of light will travel into the image sensor.....
no more mirror movement within the camera and that means no more vibration and faster FPS can achieve....

another rumour:

Rumors from “Nico” smile.gif

Many of our readers sent us emails with the latest rumor found on a dutch forum. The administrator (“Nico”) posted a list of new rumors. He also copied the SonyAlphaRumors ranking to classify the rumors: NR= Nicorumors instead of our SR= Sonyrumors

These are his rumors (we used the google translation tool):
“NR4: The 500 f/4 will be launched in April 2011
NR3: A new “budget” full-frame Alpha
NR5: The 16 Mp EXMOR HD “gives” 30% less noise than the 12MP sensor of the Alpha 700
NR5: The new Alpha 77 sensor gets a completely new APS-C Exmor HD with more than 16 MegaPixels
NR5: The beta version of the Alpha 77 is ready for a large series of field tests
NR5: A major European delegation in Japan will negotiate a Sony version of the Minolta 300mm f/4, Minolta and Minolta 200 f/2.8 200mm Macro.
NR5: The trigger problems in the A55/33 via a firmware update solved
NR5: The Alpha 77 gets a new, more powerful, battery on board
NR5: Newly developed full-frame Alpha’s getting an Electronic Viewfinder
NR2: In five years, the OVF will be past”

We can’t confirm or deny any of these rumors because we are waiting to get latest info from our sources. As soon as we have our SR5 rumors we will post it here.

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unkown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

signither: Oddly, that doesn't look as lomo as my experience with the 35mm F1.7 was. The effect is probably stronger when the picture is a landscape where focus curvarture will show on the edges.

mint87: It is not a big deal. The ability to focus quickly in video and Live View far overrides any noise benefits that regular dSLRs give.

No mirror slap on a translucent camera means less shake in pictures and a quieter sound when taking pictures. The pictures become more critically sharp as a result (for dSLRs, they would have to resort to Mirror Lock Up.)

zstan: Quite doubt they will change the Eye Start AF sensor location - it would make it incompatible with all Minolta and Sony eyepiece attachments.

fansoption: Put the 50mm F1.8 DT SAM on your A55. Take a picture.

Then put the 50mm F1.4 on your A55. Take a picture.

Is there a difference in angle of view?

sony's body with built in stabilisation..

so whatever lens you put in sony body can have IS...

so all the lenses you buy won't have VR/IS = cheaper lenses... smile.gif

but in NEX bodies then don't have built in VR/IS...the VR may help..that one not sure... hmm.gif

normal alpha body got built in SSS (Super Steady Shot)... tat's the reason why the lenses do not hv stabilizer....

for NEX it uses OSS (Optical Steady Shot) in the lens.... hence not stabilizer on the camera body....

if u mount VR/IS lense on NEX it won't gif u the stabilizing effect.....

Sony lenses do not have VR because Sony's stabilization's is on the sensor. This means all lenses that is detectable and recognized (read all Sony and most Minolta lenses plus all third party Alpha mount lenses) by the Alpha body is stabilized at no extra cost.

I do not think the VR on Nikon lenses can work if attached to the NEX via and adapter. I'm not sure on this but I think it will not work as the lens cannot communicate with the camera.

No. You just need to be careful a little and not let the shutter speed drop too low. Having steady hands also helps. Most PnS cameras have no IS/VR/OSS but people can still take great pics.

wingster: Wah very hard to figure out what #1 is even though you already said it is syrup. Nice #2!

evanttc: You want "adding point" lenses? The Sony Carl Zeiss and Sony G lenses have the best optical quality. On average, they focus closer than the Nikon/Canon counterparts. The Sony 50mm F1.8 DT SAM for example will focus to 34cm close while the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 AF-D will only focus to 45cm close. The Nikkor 50mm does not have VR, but the Sony A55 will have stabilization on the body.

By the way, it is only Malaysia who is so backwards where it comes to knowledge of cameras. You step into a second-hand shop in Singapore, and you'll see loads of Minolta SR/MD, Canon FD, M42, and Minolta AF/Sony mount lenses, and plenty of Mamiya 6x7 bodies.

If you are aiming for the NEX bodies though, bear in mind that the NEX bodies do not have in-body stabilization. The Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 Optical SteadyShot however comes with OSS, and so does the Sony E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Active Optical SteadyShot.

For adapted lenses, if you get the third party Nikon G adapter, there are no contacts on it, so no way for the NEX body to power the VR mechanism.

Sigma makes lenses with OS (Optical Stabilization) in A-mount. So you can use that with the Sony LA-EA1 Alpha-mount to E-mount adapter - it has the necessary contacts and OS will work.

Cacti: We recommend a tripod. It is going to be heavy!

destfull: Love #2!

You cannot teach the young the lessons of life, ahpingko. Much as you try and have all the best noble intentions, the lesson will just fly over their head. They are just not ready to learn that lesson yet. In time , they may realise the folly of their ways but not now.

As the saying goes : Youth is wasted on the young.

If you understand the above saying, then you have indeed gone through much in life.

So better focus on talking about photography. smile.gif

evanttc: You can ask for an International Warranty. Yes, the A580 is coming in next month or end of October.

destfull: I prefer the Minolta 70-210mm F4 for its close focusing (1.1 meters) compared to the Minolta 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 Original (big beercan) which only does 1.5 meters. The big beercan also focuses slower than the beercan. However, it does have the image quality of the beercan... quite unlike the Sony 75-300mm F4.5-5.6.

Today I just very unable to understand for Giottos tripod
I purchase it last month and I think theres nothing wrong with it until last 2 week when I was doing video shooting using DSLR and try to do low angle shots. The shoppers said to me that it have 2 pole socket : 1 is the normal pole socket like all the brands have and the other one is the very short pole socket which can do very low angle shot. So I try to do low angle shot by using the socket.

During that time when I tried to take out the pan-head up and change the screw driver to the secondary pole socket (the short one), the screw stuck on the pan-head at first and then I dunno how to take it out so I decided to screw in the second pole socket just like normal and then it stucked and cannot be removed using whatever kind of tools.

After that I went for sellers and even distributor and then they said I should put the plate first from the first pole socket before I can put on the second (short) pole socket and theres no warranty to claim and they will not even help me remove the screw for this things. The boss blame is my fault to put it like this but strangely when I ask the shoppers to use the new one to do the same as I do it can easily unscrew it where's my cannot.

I dunno is my problem? They dun even have the replacement accessories for this and keep telling me go for any mechanical shop to chop the thing out and try my luck to find the stupid screw driver.

Now I waste my RM4xx ringgit for this tripod ... I regret using the stupid low angle thingy.

destful, IMO, apart from shapes (if can call them shapes), its quite hard to discern what's what from the photo... the color cast is too heavy. i like the shot with the clouds though.

@lwliam: The shots doesn't look symmetrical to me xD, I mean the crop is a little bit of not balanced
*
how symmetrical do you want? like the 6 sides of a snow flake? or like the exact moment of the total eclipse of the sun? mind elaborating more?

p/s: by the way, the subject of that pic are the crashing waves on the cliff..

thanks jerry for noticing that.. thumbup.gif

if he's talking about the waves photo then IMO, i dont think it would work if it was symmetrical.

not quite right.

its raw > pc > edit > save in jpg > upload.

you need to know how to edit raw files first. its not as easy as jpg due to it not storing color and stuff. it gives you the control, rather than jpg which gives you everything you need to upload it without much edit.

but for the average day to day, a jpg is fine, coz nobody bothers, nobody knows.

if it is your job, like masuk newspaper or magazine, then raw.

bobby : you can try it out yourself, dont be afraid to use it.

if you use picasa to view your photos, a raw will appear dull and terrible, but sometimes picasa will apply color to it.

but picasa is just guessing the color and it will difer from the jpg you just took.

raw gives a better range of edit. like very deep edit. and it will not suffer loss, unlike jpg which is already compressed, via in-camera edit.

QUOTE(dtdw @ Oct 19 2010, 02:36 PM)
bobby : you can try it out yourself, dont be afraid to use it.

if you use picasa to view your photos, a raw will appear dull and terrible, but sometimes picasa will apply color to it.

but picasa is just guessing the color and it will difer from the jpg you just took.

raw gives a better range of edit. like very deep edit. and it will not suffer loss, unlike jpg which is already compressed, via in-camera edit.
*
hmm..thx for the advice...will try it out next time...later on will upload some photos here for C&C ... hehe ... should i just resize then post here or upload to flickr first, let it resize den onli post the link here?

resolution means how many pixels by how many pixels, not, how big is the file size...

i would either resize them to 1200px on the long side or 800px, depending on usage

Newbieeeeee, try take a look at Photoscape for freeware u can download and use for free... it has about 60% of what PS:CS3 can do, and 80% of what photographers need to edit their pics..

of coz, there's always the full version of Photoshop CS4/5 extended to use, but that's for me (and many others here as well) to know and for you to find out.

There are a number of features that make the a580 stand out over a Canon or Nikon of the same price-class:

1. Great Live-view: can switch easily between it and regular OVF, way better than Canon or Nikon cameras

2. Auto HDR and low-light multiple image processing -- camera processes jpegs in a way that allows you to take great shots in the most difficult lighting situations (only with Sony). This is a tool that makes a difference in photo technique and quality that can't be underestimated.
3, Sweep Panaorama -- while this may be a rarely-used functionality, it's fun

4. In-body image stabilization: the others stabilize some of their individual lenses, making them more expensive and heavier, while Sony can stabilize ALL lenses including primes and the older Minolta lenses (Sony bought Minolta around 2005 and continues to use the same lens mount...).

The a580 has an articulated screen that allows you to take overhead shots or ground-level shots with perfect composition (and without having to get down on your belly) -- no "shooting blind" on these.

Also, Sony has come up to par with Canon and Nikon in giving very good high ISO image quality, so there's no longer (as with the a2xx and a3xx series) a gap there. The video of the a580 is at least on par with Canon and Nikon.

Finally, given the legacy of Minolta lenses as well as the newer Sony additions, there is a line-up of lenses that would leave little or no gaps in what you might want compared to the lists of Canon and Nikon lenses.

Now, comparing the a55 to the a580, the technology is different. All other cameras have a mirror that flips out of the way so the sensor can receive the light -- the a55 has a fixed, "translucent" mirror that allows 70% of the light to pass through to the sensor. Sony has calibrated the ISO to the light passage to the sensor so that you get the same exposure readings as with a normal DSLR. The benefit of this technology if continuous auto focus readings by the a55 sensor, which makes for the only camera (with the a33 too) that can continuously focus while shooting video. It also allows for 10 fps in shooting stills, something that only a $5,000+ Canon or Nikon can do (but in a $750 body); the a580 can do 7, which is plenty for most people. The a55 is also about 30% smaller and lighter in the handling.

It all comes down to whether the features of the a55 and its size/handling appeal to you more. Both it and the a580 are outstanding choices.

William

VIDEO #3 OF 5

Phase Detect Auto Focus test with the Sony Alpha SLT-A55, with Sony SAM lenses.

Tested with the following: Sony 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 DT SAM, Sony 28-75mm F2.8 SAM, Sony 30mm F2.8 DT SAM Macro, Sony 50mm F1.8 DT SAM, Sony 55-200mm F4-5.6 DT SAM (2).

The Sony 35mm F1.8 DT SAM and Sony 85mm F2.8 SAM have not arrived in Malaysia as of time of recording this video.

Notice that the SAM lenses seem a fair bit quieter on the A55 (or its equalizer is different.)

VIDEO #4 OF 5

Phase Detect Auto Focus test with the Sony Alpha SLT-A55, with Sony SSM lenses.

Tested with the following: Sony Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM, Sony Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM, Sony 70-200mm F2.8G SSM, Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6G SSM, Sony 70-400mm F4-5.6G SSM.

The Sony Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 24mm F2.0 ZA SSM has not arrived in Malaysia as of time of recording this video.

You really have to try it out yourself. Wide angle lenses are not 'wider is better'. It depends a lot on the photographer using it. Some may not like too wide a view while some prefer really, really wide. If you buy a wide angle lens that you do not like to use then it will be a waste.

ahpingko: you have to take into account the fact that the wider it goes, the more prone it is to getting distortion and vignetting... but of course its not 100% always the case... for me 11-18mm is wide enough edy.

fisheye and wide angle are different in their own ways. there's a 16mm fisheye, there's 11mm wide angle... so fisheye is not nessecarily wider than wide angle... fisheyes are mainly for the effect. you wouldnt wanna use it for architectural shots.

jianh: The A580 is already in Sony Style KLCC.

The A55 is a SLT. It is also in KLCC, so you can compare both!

ahpingko:

The Samyang 8mm F3.5 Diagonal Fisheye does not have vignetting on APS-C.

The Sigma 10mm F2.8 EX DC HSM Diagonal Fisheye does not have vignetting on APS-C.

The Peleng 8mm F3.5 Circular Fisheye will always have vignetting on APS-C and FF (but then on FF, it is a fully circular image.)

The Sony/Minolta 16mm F2.8 Diagonal Fisheye does not have vignetting on APS-C and FF (but on APS-C, it is not very fishy.)

I have both ultra-wide and fisheye lenses if you want to test - we can have a TT!

dtdw: Get the news right - the A560 is pushed to next year, the A580 is in town already.

from what i read,

if i change my iso in the a580, it won't show up in the OVF unlike my dinosaur. i can't select the accurate ISO i want without leaving my eyes from the OVF..

ah well, i willl just save money and wait for the new a7xx and a new CZ24-70. =X

there is however, a SIGMA 8-16mm HSM UWA, which i not sure available for A mount YET or not, coz its a fairly new lens(PMA2010, mean last month announced). but my guess, the price can let u buy 3 unit of samyang 8mmfisheye

ahpingko: fisheye is a very personal thing... 5 out of 10 ppl love fisheye, while other 5 show no interest... so it depends on u. to me, 8mm is really really really really wide, near 180degree from where u stand... so u get all sort of "rubbish" goes into ur photo. not easy to use, but if u like fisheye, trust me, u will be enjoying it A LOT, rubbish also become pretty flower hahahaha!

why not? its an entertainment magazine. the moment is more of importance here. and direct flash has always been used la especially in studios. just that they use strobe lighting, people don't call the 'direct flash' but the light is fired directly at the models anyway, albeit at different directions. hmm.gif

strobe dosnt count lol.. wat i mean is direct like that, flashgun toward subject (which produce hard shadow at the behind) for *glamour@fashion magazine like that..

*that magazine is entertainment magazine or fashion eh? not really into it btw biggrin.gif

edit: i dunno if that pic only just snap from certain events or at studio but just want to break the rules...

i don't think there is a rule that says not to use direct flash.

people who say don't use direct flash most of the time don't know how to control their flash and do settings, end up the subject is over exposed, with really harsh shadows behind the subject. but as you can see in the picture, the flash exposure is spot on. hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

of course off camera flash/bounced flash gives a more natural skin tone hmm.gif

if you look at the photo properly, its obviously not shot in a studio.

most probably at some red carpet event. direct flash is a safer bet to get a properly exposed and sharp picture.

and no, it IS candid IMO. not a serious staged shot. biggrin.gif

A580 only available in KLCC? is too far from here... lazy to go there to try...

A580 should have the same price as A55 is it?
if A580 is expensive, i'll go for A55..

but, which 1 is better?
i read the review, both spec are the same...

the different is only the EVF and OVF..
is there any different?

zstan: Yes, that is one thing that was unfortunately removed from the A450/A500/A550.

I cannot confirm that the A560/A580 does not show ISO in viewfinder. (EDIT)

The A33/A55 does show ISO in viewfinder though, when you press the ISO button.

MechaHerc: Isi itu penting. wink.gif

fansoption, thanks! Eh your A55 also can do 7.5x and 14x magnification for focus checking what. wink.gif

fatnir: Where got difficult?

First you enable the option to magnify using the Delete button.

When you want to magnify, press the Delete button once to select an area, then press the Delete button to magnify at 7.5x.

The mirror does not flip up while doing this. All other dSLRs must flip up their mirrors to allow magnification!

Also, because the magnified view is at F1.4 for a F1.4 lens on the A55, you can focus very accurately.

On a optical viewfinder, you put a F1.4 lens on, the viewfinder only shows you accuracy for F3.2 or so, so when you take a picture your manual focus might not be accurate!

I generally don't like to override the focus because the camera would often refocus if I half-press again. Of course, if you half-press and then turn the focus ring, everything is fine. smile.gif

went to sonystyle at the curve
they don't have the a580 yet, so went to play with a33/55 again

another question,
when flash is turned on, why does it flash several times (with different strength) before an image is taken?

Added on October 20, 2010, 9:10 pmon the other hand, i think i saw two DSLT (either a33 or a55) in the wild in ikea/curve

zstan: Won't work - image would be upside down.

You're right on the AF assist/red eye flash. biggrin.gif

Sony SLT-A55 with ECM-CG50 shotgun mike comparison

Compared the Sony SLT-A55 with Minolta 24-50mm F4 (a screw-drive lens, sure to make a sound when focusing) and the ECM-CG50 shotgun mike in three situations;

1) using on-board mike
2) using ECM-CG50 shotgun mike
3) using ECM-CG50 shotgun mike with low cut filter on

user posted image
The holder itself has rubber to form an isolation mount - this prevents vibrations from pressing the camera buttons, from reaching the mike. The iISO to ISO coldshoe adapter (it cannot work for flashes) is included in the package.

VERDICT?

We can observe certain things - for one, the average video length with the NEX-5/LA-EA1 combo with SAM lenses was 30 seconds (minus the introduction.)

The average video length with the NEX-5/LA-EA1 combo with SSM lenses was 20 seconds (minus the introduction.)

Meanwhile, the A55 videos clocked in at an average of 4 seconds (minus the introduction.)

These were all for 3 cycles, focusing close, then further, then close again. I had to adjust my shooting location to accomodate lenses that could not focus so close, like the telephoto lenses.

Contrast Detect AF, especially on the NEX-5/LA-EA1 with Sony 30mm F2.8 DT SAM Macro, was particularly loud! This was probably because the NEX-5/LA-EA1 decided to go all the way to minimum focus distance (MFD), then to infinity, then back, then to the focus point.

The camera tells the lens motor to go at full speed from MFD to infinity which causes that loud sound.

Compare this to Phase Detect AF, where the camera just tells the lens motor to go to the focus point (quite simply, because it only needs to look once to get it in approximate location.)

Contrast Detect AF also seems to be a lot faster with shorter focal lengths. The Sony Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM in particular proved to be the fastest in both contrast detect and phase detect situations.

Contrast Detect AF also does much, much better with brighter lenses.

The NEX-3/NEX-5 has another handicap - you cannot set the AF point to be fixed on the center; it will always go into Wide Area AF whenever it records video. The A33/A55 lets you change AF points even when recording video!

My next mission - to find the Sony Alpha 580!

kevinwcw: I explained why already - SAM on the A55 just needs to go to the focus point e.g. 2 meters. It can detect this immediately with the phase-detect sensors. Whereas Contrast Detect goes to MFD, then Infinity, and MFD again, because it does not know the subject is 2 meters away unless it does the 'scan'. Then only does it go to 2 meters.

The buzz happens because the lens has to speed from MFD to Infinity.

destfull: Nice! This would make a decent budget video lens for the A55 since it has VC built in.

this tamrom 70300 USD VC is like SAL70300G(maybe not optically G) and half the price. USD is just another marketing term of SSM, SWM, HSM...(USD is not slow motor like SAM or some AF-S) also, this is the first USD lens, it could be a test rat... before they really port it into 70200F2.8.... w000ttt!

Does unfilled warranty card means the warranty period won't start until you actually filled it in and send it back to the respective companies?
I keep seeing ppl posting in camera sales thread..camera is barely used but it's been a few months since the day it left the shop, but warranty card remained unfilled and they claimed that warranty is one full year, is that true? I saw that a few times already...

dont believe them at all...when you purchase your camera, the shop will take down all the necessary info and then will send back to the respective company...so your warranty starts when u bought the camera...

hazril: yea i get what u mean.. smile.gif no point saying "ugly" or "wrong technique" without any real comments... biggrin.gif

evilhomura89: Warranty starts at the DATE OF PURCHASE regardless of whether the warranty card is filled or not. Dont believe all the "warranty card unfilled" attempt to promote sales... it means shit... smile.gif

i wish i had those on my tables too...
but on the other hand, for the price that he's paying, he could have gotten canon 60d or nikon d7000 with a kit lens n some minor accessories
it's because of sony's aggresive pricing that made all the additional purchases possible

the advantage of the 50mm f1.8 is the wider aperture compared to f3.5-f5.6 of the 18mm-250mm
you might wanna learn more on aperture control then you'll love the 50mm
google for bokeh biggrin.gif

18-250 for general.. 50f1.8 for lowlight (or when 18250 can't fulfill you in term of shutter speed + high iso)

and the UV filter bukan cap ayam.. itu Carl Zeiss T* Coat

1212345656, not advisable to bring for repair, as it will definitely cost you the price of another 2nd hand 18-70.. my suggestion: go get a 2nd hand one if you wanna continue using the kitlens, or save up to get the tamron 17-50 f/2.8, which as for now, what u can probably do is to manual focus... unless you have other lens to use..

Of coz you need to. Tamron, Sigma, Tokina.. they all make A-mount lenses compatible for Sony/Minolta users.

and its 16-105, not 18

here is a reference link if you wanna know roughly where the 2nd hand market price is at http://www.alphanatics.com/viewtopic.php?f...7bccb99922d6149

I notice the 1st picture is slightly out of focus, should have use manual focus instead, the rain drops makes the auto focus nuts.. lol

there's SAL 18-70, SAM 18-55, Minolta 35-70 f/4 (aka mini beercan), assortment of m42 (manual focus) lenses..

75-300 is a tele, not meant for macro, providing only 1:4 max magnification from real size.

fansoption: In the last thread I already posted a picture of my A55 lah...

Also the one I used to test at Sony Style KLCC was mine lah.

zstan: Yup, surprisingly quiet!

ahtiven: King Grimlock! I love that addition to the group picture.

1212345656: Unfortunately you are better off buying a replacement - a secondhand 18-70mm can go for quite cheap these days.

aureliux: Nice! Like the mood in #1.

if there are any 18-70 lying around, get that... you'd have more usage of a wide angle than a tele..
