I would like to ask your personal experience in usage of filters like skyline, UVA/B, etc, etc. Forget about special effect filters like ND, Grey, polarizing, diffuser, etc, etc.
My question is ...
a. Apart from protecting the lens, UV cut, what else it can do?
b. Is there any significant diff between "cheap" & "expensive" filter? (other than the price lah...

)
c. Why some pros decided to do away with such filter... (I don't want to ask them, ask u guys better...hahaha)
d. Some says using flash without filter is better to avoid flare....true ah?
Thanks in advance....

a. well, the most important aspect of people buying UV lens is to protect your lens front element.
b. yes there is.cheap filter allow less light penetration. there will be issues of ghosting & flare. if you wanna use chepo filters for your expensive lens, might as well go naked.
c. because some of those 'pros' are pixel peepers and they say filters will affect IQ(very true if you are using cheap filters, for expensive filters like B+W it is very negligible).
d. not quite true. even the Sony Carl Zeiss lens are quite prone to flare, especially when shooting towards the sun. filters will help.
edit: for very expensive filters, light penetration would be 99%, so it doesn't really affect the light gathering properties.
