Hey there,

I started this topic when I was interested in the Yamaha YHT S400 soundbar:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1578370

I've since moved on to a 5.1 set up but if you're keen, this one's a good buy. Cheers.

Check out this months' HWM (the one with Milla on the cover) as it has a review on 4 soundbars (Philips, Sony, Samsung and Yamaha).. though the one from Philips is a better range one that cost RM4k.

Anyway, I tested most of the Philips before.
- fits under a 32" nicely
- Average sound for movies and music (there's another one from Philips that sounds better.. think its the one that comes with the Blu Ray player)
- No HD audio
- No HDMI inputs

I previously ordered the Yamaha S400 but it took too long to come (almost 1 month to reach me) so I upgraded to a Yamaha RX-V467 with NS-8390 and NS-P60 speakers with a YST-SW215 (or was it YST-SW315) sub.

May i know what's the price for HTS8141? Because i just went to HN in penang recently to test out the yamaha S300 & s400 sound bar, the sales person also showed me one of the philips sound bar with DVD player build in which cost around RM1700.

If HTS8141 is the one which i tested in HN, imo the yamaha s300 sounds better then it.

I tried the s330, s400 and HTS8141 for half an hour by listening to the same sound effect from same movie. HTS8141 sounds very forward and the virtual surround is not so obvious if compare to both of the yamaha one. But all the setting were done by the sales person.

If compare S300 and S400, then i will go for S300, cuz the virtual surround comes from s300 is better than s400, (maybe because the distance of left and right satellite of s300 is longer than s400 where s400 is fixed).

YSP-5100 with additional one pair of tweeter at the end, only if you have no budget restraint.using wall reflection to bounce the beam for surround, nice review in What HiFi

Over here in Penang, they don't really have a lot of choices la sad.gif

Kinda wondering how I'm gonna fit those 2 tall fellas in my small living sweat.gif Hope I'm not getting some mismatched combo..
I think your combo with the 2 L+R satellites would be quite nice.. hows the sound eh?

I should be getting mine today so will take some photos of my HT setup to share for you guys to comment on how to improve notworthy.gif

I have the philips soundcard in my upstairs living room.. It's the slightly lower range than bluray one.. What I can say is, stereo sounds awful, surround is acceptable..

We just bought it blindly after listening to the blu-ray version while the salesman claim it should be the same just having less playback ability, clearly we are falsely perceived!!

Err, with these kind of setup, my condo neighbours should be yelling at me whenever I watch action movies, no?

need to adjust the TV a bit cos the Receiver can't put under the tv now and it cant fit into the shelf as well sweat.gif

Contrary to what I thought might have been overkill for such a small living room, I think that it's just right... without turning it up that much, the sound is pretty darn good thumbup.gif
