Just came back from Proton Edar Glenmarie, went to molest molest and take pic of the 2.0P Inspira bit..
First impression,

1) Nappa leather not that smooth compared to BMW 325i and Ferrari F430. tongue.gif ( Dont be marah for me comparing to those cars, cos those are the only cars that I have sat and driven before with Nappa leather AFAIK)

2) Cushion seat not that firm and supportive. Noticeably softer than Lancer GT, not that comfortable IMO.

3) The 2 rear passenger door doesnt close with a real thud like Lancer GT. Sounds a wee bit hollow to me. Maybe due to lesser amount of soundproofing.

4) In-dash double din radio looks like from early 2000's.. Good excuse to buang for upgrade..

5) Price drop rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Better for everyone.

Will be test driving it tmr if got the time.. Overall built quality seems as good as Mitsu and definitely a worthy buy. thumbup.gif

There is a matter that everyone should know about licensing deals.

When mitsu licensed the platform over to Proton, it doesnt means that they would transfer all their assembly know how to Proton. They just merely allow Proton to have the blueprint on all the tech details of their chassis and measurements etc etc. Then proton would have to incur cost to design and set up their machines to develop and assemble the car using their own machine and plants, which would incur cost. Furthermore the suspension tuning and local parts integration into the car would have incur some cost too.. But i doubt the redesign bumper would cost much as they can pay any art students RM100 and they can easily come up with that simple bumper design..

Therefore the licensing price of the engine and components + suspension redesign + bumper design and marketing would come up to something similar of a price with the ori Lancer due to inefficiencies of local plants, pricier local parts, plus some keuntungan for koncho koncho Proton and some appearance fee for Tun M.. I guess they cant really lower down their price too much or it will cannibalize the Persona and Gen2 sales.

When the Gen2 initially started manufacturing also the Proton tanjung Malim plant was pushing out 4000 cars a mth. Based on 5days per week work and 4 weeks per mth, thats 22working days. 4000 / 24days = 166cars/day. Current production for Gen2 is 9000units a mth / 409cars a day..

IMO, there are only 2 types of ppl that can get BUTTHURT
1) People who still cant afford the Inspira or Lancer even after the price reduction.
2) Those who have ady bought the Lancer beforehand. icon_rolleyes.gif

This is a quote from Sugizo36881, which is perfectly what im trying to imply. When Proton rebadge cars, we complaint. When Waja and Gen2 first came out, it wasnt good, but then it wasnt bad either. Every company have their own learning experience to go through before they can come out with really good cars, Ferrari and Lambo nonetheless. Therefore we have to give our support to Proton too. The 90k range of cars is not going to be a real volume seller in Malaysia. Proton have learnt their lesson after developing the Waja, therefore they are making a good economic decision although it might not be the best decision for public relation and their image, its a good decision for future volume seller models. Proton is coming up with their next gen global seller, Persona R, and its fully a groundup development from Proton. We shall judge whether Proton is taking us seriously then.
