u do understand its a personal sponsorship: -
1. it is personal meaning to him only
2. it is a sponsorship only not a salary

meaning he alone is getting USD 180k per year on his own...
he still have another 300M won (USD 270k) for him just to build his own team...

currently he has class S for GSL meaning he would be auto top64 for the first GSL (2011) which have a guarantee amount of $$$ already...
and he is currently top 4 and could go on to win the USD 87k first place prize money (and already has USD 10k in his pocket as a semifinalist)...
and GSL is currently every 2 month meaning if he go on to win every GSL, he would have 6xUSD 87k per year...

sc2 prize money (especially GSL) is much higher than sc:bw...
heck even blizzcon gave out USD 25k to the winner (nexgenius ftw)...

and that exclude other endorsements etc...

oh ya NaDa chose to quit wemadefox and went to oGs for sc2 LOL...

first place payout
GSL (SC2) = USD 87k every 2 month
Starleague (SC:BW) = USD 20k every 6 month

Considering the vods for both MBCgame and OGN are free and a HD stream for all games league and proleague games are also free, Gretech is making themselves a big fat joke by saying Kespa is being greedy when they can't even launch a tournament without providing a proper stream service (that doesn't screw up) and release the vods for free (cause all they care is money).

Then I ask you, can you watch the korean vods? Only first set only? What premium HQ when the shitty Kespa can provide it for free?

And don't call me a Starcraft 1 elitist cause I'll beat the likes of you in any starcraft 2 game any time, any day.

u can watch korean VODs...
at times when i am late for matches i watch them on korean VODs since they have better control than tasteless for observation...
just because u dunno about it doesn't mean it does not exist lol...

HQ is free for korean commentary, as i said its not free for English commentary due to the extra cost...
at least there's an option for it to have a free SQ English commentary unlike starleague/ MBC...

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=elitist

I don't need people telling me stuff by using urban dictionary.com when their definition of starcraft is

You enjoy putting words in people mouth by saying

Since when did I say sc2 will fail and SC:BW is where the esport is doh.gif
I even watched the boxer vs nada game live even though I had an exam coming tomorrow.
I'm just saying Gretech/Blizzard is doing a pretty darn horrible job of promoting esports and suing BOTH mbcgame and Ongamenet at the same time while charging for money for what? English commentaries?
Even the event in Blizzcon for Starcraft 2 was pretty darn horrible and lag was all over the place.

how about which is the same definition: -

1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
2.
a. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
b. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.

after all we are happily discussing bout boxer's success in GSL and how he got a sponsorship to make his own team (and possibly getting iloveOOv over)

read back ur previous posts and trust look at how often other forummers had a 'discussion' with u about sc1 vs sc2...
i rest my case...

btw about the english commentary, they dun fall from trees...
likewise bandwith are not free (nor cheap)...
i'm pretty happy with it (except tasteless's bad observing) and the interview session is an extra plus...
besides it help spread esport to an international level...

and yes people are happy to pay for premiums lol...

------------

btw currently nestea is ranked 1 in KR...
so expect boxer to have some trouble though in their interviews they stated they met often in ladders...
boxer often vary his styles/ builds vs nestea so expect the unexpected...

I don't think the English commentary should be charged for, if vods for the proleague,OSL and MSL can be posted on youtube and people are willing to do commentating on it why can't gretech allow it if they are so eager to promote "e$ports"?
QUOTE
MBC Official: Gretech really doesn't understand how TV stations work

- The negotiations between the two sides haven't been going so smoothly; why do you think this is the case?
MBC: Frankly, they just don't understand our company's situation. We really want to agree to their terms, but there's a few details that we cannot accept.

- Gretech's official said that their terms were very lenient; is this true?
MBC: That was concerning SPL, but their stance on individual leagues is totally different. Since both sides signed a nondisclosure agreement, I can't really reveal everything. Their fee for the live broadcasting of individual league matches on just Friday was reasonable, but their asking price for broadcasting twice a week was far too expensive, making it hard for us to agree with them.

Note: Gretech exposed a portion of the talks to the media on Oct. 16. According to these terms, the fee for hosting the tournament was 1 won, and the fee for broadcasting it was 100 million won. Gretech claimed that they had the same terms for SPL, MSL, and OSL; SPL runs for about 10 months, and individual leagues run for about 3 months.

- Right now, KeSPA has already paid a significant sum for broadcasting rights; is this right?
MBC: According to the terms, if we integrate both the team league and individual league, we will be paying more than KeSPA is asking for. Moreover, the KeSPA-affiliated agency of IEG will be in charge of the broadcast fees, and we will provide for broadcast television post-production costs. However, to think that Gretech would help subsidize a portion of our live broadcast post-production costs is an extravagant fantasy.

- Do you believe that the other side's terms are harsh?
MBC: Right now, we practically break even on broadcasting Brood War, so we're just happy we're not going into the red. The primary audience for Starcraft is the youth of age 13-18, so advertising doesn't have much effectiveness. And the tournament prize money and raffle prizes at the finals, with broadcasting and related expenses, make it impossible to make a profit.

If we were to actually agree to their terms, our company would feel enormous pressure. At the same time, we'd have to keep in mind that we're almost losing money in order to broadcast these matches, instead of profiting. They just don't understand the real situation in TV companies; they act like just because we're a for-profit TV company, we actually make a profit.

- Last time at the parliamentary hearing, the other side said that broadcasting Starcraft matches was "illegal". You felt wronged, correct?
MBC: Correct, I felt very wronged. At least up until now, we couldn't believe they could say something like that. MBC has always paid KeSPA broadcast fees, and KeSPA is a subdivision of the Korean Ministry of Culture. We paid dues to a government department; if that is illegal, I really don't know what's legal.

- Is this problem caused by your not having received rights from Blizzard?
MBC: At the very beginning, we got the rights for broadcasting Starcraft from Blizzard's Korean partner, Hanbitsoft, and Hanbitsoft is a member of KeSPA. So, are the leagues we got permission to hold then illegal leagues? However, from the beginning of the negotiations until now, Gretech thinks that our leagues are illegal, which directly hurt the negotiation process. If we continue like this, we may not have any choice but to terminate the negotiations, and this would damage Gretech a lot.

- Recently, there's been much talk of forcing the leagues through; what do you think about this?
MBC: We don't know how this round of talks will end, so as to not prevent [casual] gamers from viewing these leagues, we have to force the new season of MSL to be broadcast.

- Is there still room for the negotiations between the two sides?
MBC: There still [should be]. We would have no problem if the other side revealed the terms of the arrangement. However, as the television station that broadcasts the team leagues, we shouldn't have to suffer the danger of losses for just this, right? The costs of broadcasting the league games is estimated to be in the tens of billions of won or more, and with such a huge market size solving many problems should be quite easy.

Really though, it's not that we don't want to pay this much to them [Gretech], but rather because if we did comply [with Gretech's demands], it would be absolutely impossible for us to broadcast the leagues afterward.

Finally, I hope Gretech does not think that my television company is so simple to run. We are competing cable stations and Korea Electric is our partner, and we both promote Starcraft leagues.

Therefore, they [Gretech] should first do some good market research before making a final decision.

Copyright and IP...
why do u think MBC is being sued now?

as i said before, the IP issue is a VERY VERY VERY SENSITIVE issue for IT/ IS company...
there's international laws protecting it and wut MBC does is not right...
if they are right, they wont be getting (or already gotten in fact) a lawsuit from blizzard lol...

btw: gretech did mention that currently they enforce all ppl to watch from their official site so they can get some numbers to show to future sponsors (the REAL GSL starts in 2011, GSL 3 being the last preliminary)

Oddly it took Blizzard 7 years to realize it and 10 years to realize OGN has been breaking laws and sue them right when Starcraft 2 is out. doh.gif
And you're telling me that Boxer and Nada got popular from joining these illegal leagues for years and now they give them a big fat title "Starcraft Legend" in GSL

they only found out when kespa began charging ppl for broadcasting right using blizz's IP...
and this is pretty recent...
the negotiations has been going on behind and only became a big hoo-haa when both side refuse to give in...

btw: as mentioned, its better to continue this discussion at other threads and keep this thread for GSL... i wont be replying u anymore about this issue in this thread as boxer vs nestea is starting in 20min!!!
