QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 26 2010, 11:24 AM) @Syd G, I got mine for less than RM1k too. Got kaki in the US Medela huh?! That's what I'll recommend too. Anyhow for those looking to purchase cheaper breast pumps, if u've a friend coming back from the USA, get it from there; it's way cheaper. I got the Medela one for a friend (it's retailing about RM1.8k here I think) but I paid less than RM1k for it. The only thing is finding someone to carry it back from the USA. Prolly I should start a Medela spree or something |

QUOTE(gkl83 @ Oct 28 2010, 01:43 PM) my wife bought manual pump instead... Pureen RM43 from The Store having 20% off... Good electric pump can control suction power la as commented by my mother-in-law, battery operated by harm the internal organ as we can't 100% control the pump frequency and suction power... used manual pump can control exactly what we required and lesser harm to breast... Btw your mother-in-law obviously had never used an electric breastpump before. It's easy to be ignorant, so equip yourself with knowledge Added on October 28, 2010, 2:00 pm QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 26 2010, 01:14 PM) @Syd G, I'm really enjoying the baby after tearing my hair out for a month The one I purchased for sis was at full RCP; bought it here in KL. But now got kaki in USA *smiles* So how's things coming along on ur end? Also, I noticed a lot of people uses Avent; any feedback on that brand? [me trying not to go OT] For manual pump, I've heard a lot of feedbacks that favour Avent Isis over Medela Harmony. But I'm quite biased towards Medela due to its awesome Freestyle pump This post has been edited by Syd G: Oct 28 2010, 02:00 PM |

QUOTE(gkl83 @ Oct 28 2010, 02:27 PM) she said natural still the best, i have 2 sister-in-law and mother-in-law said they using battery operated as they lazy to pump themselves... Can also hence, she said use hot towel squeeze the milk from breast also can if my wife dont mind... that how mother-in-law feed my wife 25 years ago... But making it so mafan will lessen her chance of breastfeeding your kid longer. If she starts complaining then u need to save up already |

@algu,
some women may not want to breastfeed for whatever reasons. at least have the courtesy to ask her first before you buy something that she may not use. |

start rant
Arguing with friends and sadly, family about breastfeeding is so tiring, I had to continuously remind myself to just nod and smile. It usually goes like this - Them : So your baby is breastfeeding? Me : Yes Them : Fully or mixed with formula? Me : Fully. Them : Oh you're very lucky got milk | Your baby is a girl so she doesnt drink so much - if boy then have to campur cause they drink lots | or something insulting like that Me : *Smiles and nods* In my heart I was in rage because I worked too damn hard to make sure that I get to exclusively provide my child with breastmilk till she's 6 months old - I watched videos/read books how to produce lots of milk, what to eat/drink, which pump to buy, how to pump, when to pump, when to feed, how often to feed, how long to feed, what to do after feeding, how to store, how to reheat and a lot of other things. And my baby is 6kg at 2 months old - she drinks lots since birth (back then every one and a half hour for half an hour - I burnt so much calories, I went back to my pre-pregnancy weight in 2 weeks) so the volume argument is moot. I found out that the comments they made were from their shame/guilt of their own inability to do the same. None of them actually asked me how I manage to do it, as I'd be more than happy to share the knowledge. I'll never condemn a mother's choice to formula-feed their kids within the first few months because they have their own reasons; just dont insult me for doing it differently. Urgh. end rant Oh well. |

QUOTE(nairud @ Dec 3 2010, 03:59 PM) why all discuss brands except Avent? It's like discussing abt a Sony Walkman. Good, but iPods are the bomb that day at the baby carnival at MV, bought already avent. asked my wife why not medela, she just replied she like avent name Added on December 3, 2010, 5:40 pm QUOTE(merchant9 @ Dec 3 2010, 03:33 PM) We have a electric Medela breast pump to use at home but need one for the office as the office does not have mother's room, only the ladies toilet without any electrical power. Additionally, dont want to use electric pump as it is noisy and the whole block would know we are pumping breast milk. To add to poster above,If you're a non muslim, you're not prohibited to enter the prayer room. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. This post has been edited by Syd G: Dec 3 2010, 05:40 PM |

QUOTE(sangcunlee @ Jan 12 2012, 03:47 PM) I will be having my first child in March. But I am still looking and confused to buy a milk pump. This is because some of my friends suggested to buy a cheap brand first. Because they said I need to wait and c my milk production. Please dont listen to your friends to "wait and see". Cheap pumps will not extract milk much, thus leading you to think that you dont have enough milk. If you're really interested in buying a good pump, get a Avent manual pump or Medela Harmony. Actually i was interested on Medela free-style, but it is quite expensive and I worry i wont able to use it effectively. Please give me some opinions.. Added on January 12, 2012, 3:58 pmI want to go to BF class .. how can i do that ? Any hospital suggestion? How much is the cost ? There's a BF class by Ms Gina Yong. I think other forummers are more familiar with her. You can check out our breastfeeding support thread instead. |

Not to be racist but most Malay Muslim moms will try to breastfeed their kids because our prophet had 2 milk mommies because his mother didnt have enough milk. It just shows the importance of human milk, having a milk mom, eventhough there were abundance of goat milk around.
When I was studying, I carried my FS and cooler bag everyday and pumped in the surau in between classes. Now they have a proper lactation room and proper fridge and proper chair for me to sit |

QUOTE(catherinessc @ Jun 19 2012, 01:39 AM) Actually I am looking to buy a pump too but the question is should I get a manual one or electrical? Any ideas? If you're a working mom, get a double electric pump.If you're thinking of buying manual pump, dont buy Pureen pump. Waste of energy on earth. Added on June 19, 2012, 11:08 am QUOTE(sweeboon @ Jun 19 2012, 10:04 AM) Dear Catherine, my advice is never get a manual pump. It's so tiring even the good one. Any electric pump is fine, depending on your budget. If you want Sth fast, maybe double pump. I can pump with my Harmony almost as fast as single-sided FS This post has been edited by Syd G: Jun 19 2012, 11:08 AM |
