Ovi Maps for mobile v3.06(Beta)

See your location on the map, explore places around you - or anywhere in the world - and share them. Navigate to your destination with free Drive or Walk in 78 countries. Once you've arrived check in to a place and share it with your friends on your favourite social networks.
What's different from the previous release (v3.04)?

We have made a few major improvements to Ovi Maps in this release. These include:

    * Pinch to zoom interaction (Only available on Symbian^3 devices)
    * Visually refreshed main menu and icons,
    * New maps with public transport lines (as a new map layer) for subways, trams and trains in 80+ cities around the world. Just click the map toolbox icon and select Transit lines,
    * Improved search experience - find places and addresses around you - or anywhere in the world - fast and easily. Browse places or enter a keyword in the search box. Now with suggestions and "did you mean?" functionality,
    * New place pages with description, reviews, pictures and places nearby. Interact with places in a whole new way - you can check in, contact, navigate, save, rate, share, report or see place on the map,
    * Share a place - send a place to your friends via SMS or Email. The SMS contains the address and a link to the place page with description, ratings, contact, URL and a mini map. The link opens up on the mobile browser (also on non-Nokia devices),
    * Check in - keep your friends up-to-date with where you are and what you're up to. Check in to places and share it with your friends on Facebook and many more social networks. See places you’ve been to in your check in history,
    * New Drive assistance mode with live traffic flow - after clicking Drive, you're instantly in drive assistance mode with live traffic flow and more. Once you start moving, get safety camera alerts and speed limit warnings,
    * More folder with many rich content services relevant to your location. Personalise your Ovi Maps by selecting the services you'd like to keep on your main menu for instant access.

for my personal point of view, both garmin and OVI map (3.04) have their own pros and cons.

for searching, garmin is better than Ovi map. Ovi map cant search by address, and only able to search from the nearby location.
coordinate input is not convenient as garmin.

Example you wanna go to Mobile at SS2 aka Point of interest

or u wanna go to Ah Tan Fried Rice Shop aka Point of Interest

U wanna go to Mushi mushi pancake shop aka Point of Interest

so in garmin its up to date so most of the time u search something it will come out a result when OVI i search 10 times different thing maybe 1 or 2 will come out

i using both application(garmin & ovimap ) on my phone.
As i said just now, both application have their own pros and cons.

For me, i use Garmin to search for a certain place, eg Kek Lok Si Temple.
Why i do so? Bcos Garmin can search a certain place no matter how far they are. Unlike Ovi maps, if u currently at KL, u will not able to search kek lok Si by key in the name, bcos Ovi map only able to search for nearby +-50KM or +-20 location only. Addition, Garmin Map is much much more update compare with Ovi Map.

Then i use the location (Kek Lok Si) and navigate with Ovi Map.
Why i do so? Because Garmin will lagger than Ovi Map, sometime might cause ur phone hang a while, so not user friendly while driving, which need a fastest response. Ovi Map win in term of responsive. Never lag, all route proceed in "SUI SUI" way. When turn into wrong rooute, OVi Map can reculculating the route faster than Garmin, and wont lag.

Like above sifu said +1
So it depends OVi maps POI is not so up to date famous places it can find but some rare and unique u might face some problem

For now Garmin is my choice because i never worry to get lost or end up turning into a wall haha.

what do u meant?
if u wanna update the maps, download the newer OVI maps installer...
then install to your mass storage..it's will replace the old version on your phone and offcourse it will delete the old maps also..
once u completed the installation, run the OVI Maps and u will see no maps at all..
so,download the Nokia Suite from Nokia Site and follow the instructions. They will guide u to update ur maps completely...
Maps will be update via PC by connect ur phone with PC Suite method

I'm using both of garmin and ovi map.currently have 2 maps on garmin.
-Garmin City Navigator SingaporeMalaysia NT
-Asia Pacific 2008

So i thought, both applications have their own pros and cons. But I like Garmin more than OVI Maps.
