i believe the legal driving speed depends on the size of the bus, right? hmm.gif
*
no, even our expressway's limitation set to 110km/h, its not applicable to heavy / laden vehicles, remember the recent applications?

One boasted to me he did 160 on a downhill stretch in a double decker. My hands are already shaking at 130km. sweat.gif

with ~400hp on the vehicle 130km/h is considered fast with the weight drag smile.gif

QUOTE(JoLee @ Oct 11 2010, 02:48 PM)
That is why I think it is not the barrier issues. The government should implement laws to make it a disincentive to drive fast ie not based on the number of trips for the drivers to be paid.

Secondly speed limiters and GPS are needed to make sure that they cannot overspeed.

This kind of tragedy happens almost every year with successive ministers talking c**k. It is simple logic that it is bound to happen if you travel by bus from Singapore to KL and observe the speed vis a vis the traffic volume. So pray hard that the driver is skillful.
*
Whats needed now is:

1. GPS system
2. Speed limiters
3. Black box
4. Skillful driver
5. Attractive salary / benefits

Huh.....

Motorways are for speed of 110 km/h.

Not for 60 km/h.

Even federal roads has speed of 90 km/h in some stretches.

In Japan, highway is called as "Kosoku doro", kosoku means high speed.
*
they have tonnes of >1000ps mean machines, capable to exceed 300km/h, but they drive with ethique too.. not like us sweat.gif

Focus on enforcement and education.

Not by having laws that do not even make sense in terms of function and economics.

most importantly is moral and ethic

not just to bus drivers but to all malaysians

our country people lack of moral and ethics which is the main source of their retardness and attitude problem
*
its just a recommendations for public serving vehicles, my car capable to hit 280km/h at any point of long stretch, due to concern of safety for own and others, i rarely exceed 100km/h smile.gif

1 way to force malaysian driver to not speeding more than 110 km/h in highway is forcing all the car in malaysia to put a limit of 120 km/h and change the speedometer to 120km/h max...therefore if drive 120km/h rpm already merah...haha thumbup.gif

seriously off engine dude?
you know the brake etc will not work, no engine braking summore
if follow this rule sure more accident la.
*
engine shutdown will increase accidents, hydraulics will stop working, power steering shutsdown, brakes will fail, electronics will cut off.

the best way is like GPS fitted in the Safeguards/Securicor vehicles .. their vehicles are not allowed to stop at any point other than their planned destinations .. if the vehicle under increased speed, the GPS will force the van to slow down until 0km/h (not immediate stop) .. to restart the ignition, u must call and inform the reason on acceleration / stop point before monitoring centre disarms the ignition remotely smile.gif

agree?

I read on other forum that the area is known to have angin lintang/crosswind. It might be the cause for the bus for losing control when trying to overtake. RIP and Al-fatihah to the deceased and  i hope for speedy recovery to the injured.

yes but the spot is after "Kawasan Angin Lintang" hmm.gif

oh.. didnt know that the accident occurred after the spot. thanks for the info.  Maybe got some sudden strong wind. Hopefully the black box can revealed more about the cause.
*
me unsure too .. long already never travel on the road, but since the bus heads from south to north point, the "Angin Lintang" is from Pedas Linggi to Simpang Ampat hmm.gif

its a confusion, only often travellers can confirm the exact spot..

i've read on another forum, the bus seems to be out of control:

- tyre burst?
- driver slept?
- driver had heart attacks?
- angin lintang?
- steering fault?
- any other mechanical failure?

The transport ministry has launched a probe into a horrific road crash involving two buses, van and two cars at the 223km of the North-South Expressway near the Simpang Ampat toll plaza, which claimed 12 lives yesterday.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said he had instructed the Road Transport Department (RTD), Road Safety Department (RSD) and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) to carry out the probe.

“The express bus involved in the accident is new and was registered in 2007. Initial investigations revealed that the bus had also undergone regular inspections at Puspakom, with the latest being in May.

“However, we will conduct further investigation on the bus’ steering and brake system,” he told reporters after visiting survivors of the crash at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital here today.

Also present were Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, RTD director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan and RSD director-general Datuk Suret Singh.

Kong said the ministry was in the midst of amending the Road Transport Act to tighten enforcement, especially against drivers who were under the influence of drugs.

In KUALA LUMPUR, Bukit Aman traffic police chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof said the police were also in the midst of investigating the case and examining the black box installed in the express bus to determine the cause of the crash.

“Right now, we only know that the bus skidded to the opposite lane before it rammed into several other vehicles,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters at a presentation ceremony where Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar handed over 19 vehicles to the police at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

Abdul Aziz said initial investigations revealed the 52-year-old bus driver who was among those killed in the accident, had a clean traffic record and was described as a “very experienced driver”.

Abdul Aziz said, neither the bus nor the bus company had any record of serious traffic offences.

“So, let’s not point fingers at anyone. Let's look at the findings and determine who or what exactly caused the accident,” he said.

Abdul Aziz said based on previous records, several accidents had also occurred at the same location.

He said in the 6.47pm accident, the Delima express bus was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Melaka and ferrying 40 passengers when it went out of control, flipped over to the south-bound side of the expressway and rammed into a van, two cars and another bus, leaving 12 people killed and 38 others injured. – Bernama
