Hi guys .. just found out about linux / ubuntu .. decided to give it a try smile.gif Downloaded the latest .. 8.10 i think .. burn it into cd and tried to install on my laptop and having sh!t loads of problems =/

1) 1st i try the 1st option which is ... try or install or something ... so i tried the LIVECD style .. thought no need install 1st ... cannot load .. hang at the UBUNTU loading ( ala XP style ) there ...

2) Then nvm i try install ... even worst straight hang .. doesn't even wanna install

3) Nvm again .. i try the "Install in windows" option ... 1st try fail ... try again .. berjaya install ... now i try to boot ... again hang =.= went pass the "loading screen" .. now at some funny black screen with lots of words ..

init: ttyy3 main process blablalbal
then repeat damn alot of those similar lines
..
..
* Loading ACPI modules ......

Then in the end there got 1 underscore keep blinking for like 15 minutes oredi now .. it doesn't take THAT long to load does it =.=

Btw my laptop is 3 years old d .... ASUS M6 laptop ... i just format it few weeks ago so there is pretty much nothing there .. I don't know why it's so slow / hang so much with ubuntu ... My laptop is Pentium M ... RAM is 512 + 256 ... is that enough to run UBUNTU ?

ok, during the boot screen, there press f6 twice, u'll c a list at ur lower right corner, check acpi=off n noapci, press spacebar to select, once u selected tat 2, press escape once, n do install. this will solve the issue, but acpi wont work, means no cpu throttling. if u search online, u'll see lots of documentation or user solution...best thing about linux is, lots of resources for u, if u be initiative. to use linux, is to learn more about I.T.. if ur not the type that likes to learn, linux will not suit u

Added on January 21, 2009, 11:31 pmhope my words arent harsh, it's just a fact for beginner to accept. linux works best on server/desktop, laptop acpi driver always causes trouble unless u go for not so mainstream distro, tat allows u to customize ur system like in archlinux,slackware,gentoo,debian..

unless u really wan2 discover them, beginner should start with ubuntu for ease of use, but missed the fun of building os from scratch. distro i mentioned just now arent for newbies unless they downloaded the whole documentation on how to make it work. cz u wont get gui interface initially, konsole rocks wink.gif

It is quite harsh sad.gif Oh well since i'm asking for help, what can I say ? Haha .. but i guess it was just unfair that you pin point that ... in fact i was goggling for solution as I asked for help ... i guess it's just hard for someone who has no programming skills or anything to switch from windows ..

Btw ur "press f6 twice" thing didn't work .. nothing came out .. i think it's just my com for now .. i'll try to reformat and install again and see how ... thanks anyway smile.gif Cheers !
