Did i say anything else like

"Failed to start Xwindows etc etc?"

I think the live CD failed to recognize your onboard graphic card (usually they do, no matter what kind of graphic adapter did u use, unless the hardware is very very recently released which i found it's still out of place)

Try

sudo startx

or reconfig your xserver-xorg

sudo dpkg -reconfigure xserver-xorg

and choose intel drivers to load the live system.
*
well, aren't the default driver in livecd works in vesa mode?
i don't think graphic card is the main culprit here.

need more info from this problem.
stop at initramfs, any other message?

Right now after I install Dapper Drake , it seems I cant use wifi n also ethernet as well . But when I check at networks , it found my eth0 .
Suppose I have eth1 for my wifi rite ?

BTW i'm using cmpaq presario v3010au .

Can someone guide me ?

A noob here in linux .
*
Well, probably it can't support the wifi adapter by default.
The best bet is to go the website and look for wifi adapter linux drivers based on your wifi chipset.

If the ifconfig shows eth0, at least one of the adapter is detected.
What do you mean that you can't use ethernet? how did you try?

I've just install this Mailman in my ubuntu, and it says, in order to make it work, I got to create a "newlist"

May I know how to create a mailman newlist?
I did read through some info through net, but still don't understand.....
Pls help.. thx
*
newlist command is to create a new site wide mailing list.
when newlist is run, you would be prompt for admin mail address, if everything has been configured, a welcome message would be send to the email address specified here.
what seems to be your problem?

well, when you execute newlist command, you should type..

newlist mailman

the site wide list must be named mailman for default installation. smile.gif

DEFAULT_URL_HOST should be the hostname of the machine running mailman..

DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST is the hostname of the machine running MTA...

but i cant seemed to find inittab in etc..!!! even using locate inittab doesn't give the right places....maybe ubuntu using another mthods to set the runlevel???

it soo weird...i install using the livecd version....

do you think i should crated it manually???

i will try to create it....
*
hmm.. they have changed it since 6.10
no more inittab.

anyway, for ubuntu, it's different.

so it isn't enough by touching inittab alone.

i'm not sure if it still honours inittab in the new version.
you can try to create the file and include the line there, and when you have successfully boot up, use "runlevel" command to check which runlevel are you in.
if it has changed according to the entry in /etc/inittab, it means the new ubuntu still read from that file.

what display manager are you using? gdm?
probably you have to go into the /etc/rc* folder and find the symbolic links to the display manager and delete it.
the numbers in /etc/rc* folder would correspond to the runlevel that you want to boot from.

as i'm a newbie in debian based distro, probably this isn't the best way to do it. blush.gif

if you are unable to save it, check the file properties, the username/group which you are in, must have at least write access to the file in order to save the modifications.

*
Close the terminal means?
Just close the terminal window, or you mean shutting down the PC?

If you're planning to close the terminal window, you can run it in background, just put '&' behind the command.

hi guys, i've got a problem with the live cd. I've tried burning the cd at the lowest possible speed but still there's always a missing file when I checked the disc for errors. I've tried d/l Xubuntu and also encountered the same problem. therefore, I cant install Ubuntu. I've used torrent and also the direct d/l and the same thing occurred.  Any idea to what seems to be the problem? My dvd writer is LG GSA-H42N and the disc i used is HP. The program i tried is infrarecorder as well as nero  icon_question.gif

I'm downloading ubuntu 7.04 rite now and this is my first time venturing into linux.I am really keen on trying it out but now i have a single hdd with no partition whatsoever. How do i install my ubuntu without the need of reformatting my hdd which currently is only on one partition which is drive C.

What is your current OS? Windows XP?
Might have to repartition it though.

QUOTE(Sprit @ Jun 20 2007, 02:44 PM)
I'm currently using Xubuntu 7.04 with MySQL PHP5 and Apache2 installed.

I think I'm experiencing memory leaking from one of the aboved mentioned software package.

The system didn't exactly crashed. With all the physical and swap memory used up, the system became so unresponsive that it was unusable.

Anyway for me to track the cause of the problem?
*
With just 256MB of RAM, I believe you need further tweaking of Apache and MySQL to conserve memory though.

This is a good startup point.

When you do "sudo liloconfig", what is the output?

i) did it give some "warnings" and finish execution?
ii) or you get a menu of selecting kernels, etc.. ?

Well, creating local repo is not something that we can get to do often, but it is a good idea though.
Maybe you can refer here.
