u mean stiff-legged deadlift?
if so, yeah they are essentially the same thing... but with minor differences. SLDL is straight at the knees completely, all locked out, whereas the romanian has a slight bend in the knee. both are great ham/glute workouts.

*some variants of SLDLs take the bar so low until the lower back is rounded - absolutely not recommended for beginner lifters or for heavy poundages!
*
slight pet peeve, but SLDL is a misnomer. They are different in that Romanian does not end up being a dead weight and SLDL has deads in between reps. Slight bend on the knee towards the end to save your back. All a matter of flexibility really. Doesn't matter what you call it, do what you're comfortable with. Difference between regular DL and SLDL is just the angle of the knees, but SLDL is not truly locked knees.

If you can't touch your forehead to your knee with your leg straight, I think it's one of the exercises to avoid.

I didn't read the entire article on gluten, but I think the writer misinterpreted several studies to mislead readers.

Common. I think if it was that damaging, it would be taught in classrooms. I've never heard of gluten free diets being recommended unless they're suffering from celiac disease.

Right now I am in the best gym I've ever lifted at. At the busiest hour, there will be one of three power racks free. It's a small gym but it is never packed. It has a trap bar and all kinds of funny shaped bars. Dumbbell weight increments at 2kg all the way to 50kg. The weight plates are York - similar in diameter at 10kg, 15kg and 25kg.

Unfortunately, I'll only be in this part of town for 2 months tops but I'm making the most of it!

It costs me £50 for 2 months (~RM 250). Bargain.

I tried the Animal Pak for a while (3 tubs) and got sick of it. Don't know if it helped at all. I am still undecided on the effects of a multivit with a balanced diet.

I don't like the Animal Pak because it is 11 pills x 2 /day and NOW Adam is equally as good, with just 1 tab twice daily. Also, NOW Adam uses better ingredients (ZMA instead of Zinc Oxide, for example).

I think the deadlift is a hard thing to get around. If you don't have a strong squat first, it's hard to get around knowing how to do a strong deadlift. That tight back and power through the thighs really does help you persevere through a heavy DL. Without a strong core it would be near impossible to 'know' how to do this.

It's a difficult lift for a newbie. If you're lifting 30kg don't beat yourself up over it. Once you learn it and become comfortable with it, you'll gain 5 - 7.5kg on that lift weekly until you taper off.

So today at the gym, the owners got fed up of me squatting for reps so they said they wanna see my 1RM and put my name on 'the board'. And since I've been squatting consistently for 7 straight weeks, I figured I might as well give it a good shout.

I currently weigh in just below 80kg (5ft 11.5in), and I'm squatting 95kg x 5sets x 8reps.

I'll test my 1RM next week. Hoping to break my previous max of 137.5kg x 1, which was accomplished about 2 years ago when I made 110 x 5 x 8. Although probably not squatting as much in volume, I think I have a better mindset, better form and better control when doing the current 95 x 5 x 8.

My aim is to hit 145 kg x 1 but I'll be happy with 140 kg.

Wish me luck.

This is a video of me doing half the weights, and me consciously forcing myself to go even lower. When I am doing this squat, it felt to me like I've went as low as I possibly could already without rounding my lower back.

edit: I'm constantly trying to fix my form, as such I've been stuck at much lower/same weight for quite a long time, constantly reducing my weights to work on my form.

Can't blame you for struggling. When I first started, I had a butt wink towards the bottom of my squat so I asked around how I could solve this. Flexibility is the key really. Warm up and stretch out before you squat. Now I'm quite flexible, I can touch my chin to my knees with my legs straight out. It took quite a while for me to resolve the butt wink and achieve the depth of the squat so be patient with it.

So stretch it out and you should find yourself being able to get low with a straight back.

Should also probably mention it is best to use dynamic stretches (not static stretches) before your workout.

Great read. Good to know that he agrees that depth is king. Breaking parallel makes squatting a whole different workout.

Kudos to him taking the time to give out pointers. I wish someone did that for me.

why don't people just do a push/pull/legs workout

it's really straightforward and fit in your compounds.

Push - Bench, Shoulder Press + accessories
Pull - Rows, DL + accessories
Legs - Squats, SLDL

Finish.
