anyone tried a 3D/2D blu ray combo on a ps3?

any notable differences with a 2D ONLY blu ray?

im tempted to grab the 3d/2d owls of gahoole blu ray,but i've no 3dtv so wanna make sure there's no notable differences(at least nothing major)

reason i want the 3d/2d combo is so i dont have to buy 2 versions of the film IF i happen to upgrade in the future.

thanks

I only have 1 3D title (the Anaglyph 3D types, not the new ones) which I tried on my PS3 1 year back... the title I have is Coraline.. getting another title soon
If you wanna see the difference, check things out at Harvey Norman where they have a 3D demo going on the whole day...
I won't be jumping onto this new 3D tech just yet... will stick to the Anaglyph 3D till the new tech becomes much more reasonably (and affordably) priced.
besides... old titles tend to drop in terms of price so no worries about buying it later.

i've seen the 3DTV displays at Sony Style the curve, but that's not what i meant.

i meant the blu ray discs that incorporate both versions of the movie.(on the same disc)
does the 2D version suffer(because of this) in any way?

just as an example:
AFAIK, the PS3 will not play HD audio when 3D mode is enabled.
since they're on the same disc, does the same apply to the 2d mode?
or is this just exclusive to the 3D mode?(eventhough they're on the same disc)

besides that, it should not be a problem being played on a regular 2DTV,right?

The BD I have had 2 versions in it... I believe that no quality was compromised, especially so since its an animated movie and these movies tend to be shorter.
Not too sure about movies that have longer running time though...

I'm not certain about HD audio since I never really notice the icons on my AVR...  I guess I need to go read the manual properly first.. hehe Anyway, I'll try to test once I receive my "My Bloody Valentine 3D" title from amazon..

@ mgsrulz - if i remember correctly, ps3 will not play both lossless audio and 3D content simultaneously due to the inherent hardware limitation (hdmi bandwidth) of the PS3 console, so it has nothing to do with the disc/movie itself. the 2D content will play just fine with no compromise in PQ/AQ.

sweet thumbup.gif thanks for the replies! smile.gif

puts my mind at ease since i wont have to worry if the disc would actually work or not laugh.gif (since i currently do not have a 3DTV)

and about the lossless audio,yeah..heard about that.
but no problem,if i really want it in the future, will buy a stand alone system once i've the budget tongue.gif

eh.. which PS3 game is in 3D anyway? Metal Gear Solid 3D got means I'll start saving! tongue.gif

MGS 3 3D coming soon to 3DS! drool.gif

as for the ps3, quite a number actually.

off the top of my head:
COD BO
Tumble
Motorstorm 3D
the fight lights out
enslaved odyssey to the west
GT5

etc

have to google the list,i cant remember sweat.gif
but many are coming...in fact, as far as i can see sony are pushing 3d more than their PS Move doh.gif

so for gamers it's not really a waste tongue.gif
since you can both game and watch movies in 3D xD

Just got me a new 7.1 HD AVR... Now have dilemma whether to set 7.1 with surround back or Front height.

In your guys opinion... what do 7.1 BD movies mostly cater for... surround back or front height?

so far i've only ever come across movies with surround back..

and only recently found out how to enable extended surround laugh.gif
so now even with 5.1 movies/games, all 4 surround speakers are utilised happy.gif
