Wah, that package from Maxis is superb lah! 16GB somemore. I am so tempted.  drool.gif

Wanna ask all you galaxy users, any regrets after using your SGS?  tongue.gif
*
The cons are : Poor GPS, laggy interface and slow program launch ( can improve by applying lag fix solutions)., mediocre scrolling, slow file access using file explorer even with lag fix applied

PRO's : Great screen display - sharp bright colours ( can match if not better than iPhone4), big screen 4", high end graphic chip good for gaming, can install lots of apps as large flash memory but at expense of slower program load, great video options

Not to be a wet blanket. Could it be AP unit?

Did you get it off Samsung outlets or just any phone stalls?
*

[/quote]

It is distributed by pda-gadgets, I got it from random phone stall
*

I think you should return it and ask for a replacement as obviously the seller is selling you a open box demo unit and worse he flash a new rom on it
As a guide such sets you should not pay more than RM1.6k for it as consider used set. A brand new sealed AP set goes for about RM2.0 to 2.1k max

Mine is also AP set ( from Spore ) but comes with 16GB. I make sure it is in a sealed box before I buy it. I paid RM2.0 k for it

Anyone here using the paid version of Titanium Backup? Am interested in the unattended restore feature. As of now, it's a real pain, having to tap Install and Done on every app - plus the actual data restore procedure after installing takes a loooong time. So was wondering whether the paid version is faster/easier?

I use paid version, worth every sen. Restore usually takes less than 10 minutes and is done automatically. If you switch from different rom, untick all the red parameters. OR selectively choose which you want - safe ones are your bookmarks, mail data, messages data, call log, contacts, calendar ( the last 2 provided is same UI - not safe if you are using non Sense UI and later a SENSE UI or vice versa )

Apply you apply voodoo, it will auto create a folder named "voodoo" in your INTERNAL SD.

So just create a folder name "disable lagfix" inside "voodoo" means = /sd/voodoo/disable lagfix

Then reboot, you will hear a female voice said disable lagfix, leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. just hook it to your charger and leave it until its done
*
jujx point here is very important. I have experience not disable it properly and when I flash new rom, phone brick !!!

when i pressing down+home+power i cannot go in recovery mode, it just keep rebooting the hardware, any expert can guide me?
*
Your set comes with this DISABLE . You can easily overcome this by following this procedure at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201

It is safe and reliable but you need to root your phone

I understand that most of the newer sets now has the 3 buttons disabled as I was informed by an executive at Samsung Spore Service center this function meant for developers not end users ; it is also discourage end users to flash roms

how to do this step?
5. Start a new command prompt and navigate to the folder / drive where adb is located.
6. Type "adb reboot download" to the command prompt and press enter.
*
Did you install Android SDK ?? Google and download it if you havent

If you have, say you install it in C drive in folder AndroidSDK , just go to this folder at terminal and execute the command

It is safe and reliable but you need to root your phone? what means root my phone?

Added on October 9, 2010, 8:31 am

Yesterday Samsung released a update for Bell GT-I9000M which fixed the missing 3-button combo issue (i.e faulty secondary bootloader, SBL).

Unfortunately the fix is currently only available to Bell customers thru Kies, so a registry hack and excess flashing is needed to update the bootloader to another variants.

* My model is samsung galaxy S Maxis model is this able to use this step as well?
*
When you root your phone, you gain “superuser” privileges to the Android operating system. When you are using a stock device, you have the equivalent of “guest” privileges. This level of access gets you down to the nitty gritty of the OS with no restrictions, lets you make changes to the system, and run scripts that would normally be blocked with a standard user account. With superuser privileges on an Android phone, you can install programs that need complete access to the OS. It is analogous to be able to open up your car engine block to see its insides instead of just an external view of it

The said fix cannot be used. The link i gave you is very reliable and safe. Only problem is you need to redo it everytime you change rom

I thought this is download mode. Recovery mode is Volume Up+Home+Power. Correct me if I am wrong..

Correct, the 3 button presses gives you either RECOVERY or DOWNLOAD mode depending on whether you press vol Up or Vol down

Instead of using spare battery, why don't u get an emergency battery charger? Anyone here using? What brand? Wht brand do u recommend. I m thinking of getting tekkeon or sanyo. Anyone using tekkeon?
*
I have been using Tekkeon MP3450 for the last 5 years . It is very good, reliable but big ( 6.5 "x3"x1" ) .

I used it to charge all my notebooks ( comes with a variety of power inlet heads EXCEPT no Macs support ) and my Windows, Symbian and Android smartphones. It was expensive then , cost me about RM800 directly import in from USA. Now should be cheaper with slimmer models.

If you travel a lot , this is a good investment. I do not know whether this brand can be purchased in Msia - no harm checking it out. I can only say it is very reliable and it oozes quality just by its looks unlike most of the external chargers I see selling in LowYat. Charging notebook will extend its battery life by another at least 10 hours while phones, never really tried I'd say days !!!

Didn't knew shakehead.gif  sgs could support .mkv files.
Will try the mvideo player
*
MVideoplayer is selective , not all mkv or even avi files can be played by it. Anyway since is free, no harm trying.

I find RockPlayer is much better, at least it plays all my avi, mov, even Apple converted m4v files without any problems. You can just use the free version - donate to the developer if you like it

NO such experience so far . Rockplayer can display all my movie subtitles without any issues at all as long as the converted movie has subtitles. No need any settings just play the file

QUOTE(Narako @ Oct 11 2010, 07:08 PM)
hey i am planning to get this phone.. but i am wondering
1) does the lag fix really solve the lag problem? or does it still occasionally lag?
2) what about the gps? is there a fix for it?
3) is it ok buying such an expensive phone which is ap set? is it really risky?
*
This is a SGS thread, most users will support you to buy ; all hoping for Froyo. Being a Android user ( Nexus, HD2 on Android, Galaxy S and Dell Streak ) these are my opinions, most probably will not be welcome by SGS owners:

1 : It improves the lagginess and does NOT solve the problem and yes it still lag ocassionally. I have tried both Voodo and OCLF
2 : GPS - in a word it sucks - the worst I have ever used . Even my HD2 on Android beats it flat. No need to do any special settings on HD2. Dont even compare it with Nexus, Dell Streaks - both these will blow it out of the water
3. Your decision as is your money. Its positives - great beautiful display unmatch - I'd say it is better than iPhone 4. Great video options.

I have tried 2 Froyo roms ( all ibeta unofficial ) and I'd say brings some improvements but nothing amazing yet. The Quadrant score on the SGS is amazingly high - with lag fix I recorder 2150 versus figures of 1500 to 1700 for my other Androids but this figure is misleading as practically it fails miserably against the other phones I have

Of all the Android phones I have used this is my personal rating on a scale of 10 as best : Nexus One - 10, HD2 on Android 9, Dell Streak 8.5 and sadly Galaxy S : 5
This is of course just based on my personal needs and do not reflect other users

i was thinking of getting htc hd2 and run android.. however the said that its not as smooth as the original android phone is that true?
*
I will not advised you to do so. Get a proper Android phone instead. This is only for enthusiasts who has a HD2 and is fedup with WM 6.5. UNless you are the type who like to experiment

There are now about 20 Android roms on HD2 available. Each one has its own bugs and whether is acceptable to you depends on your needs. I'd say since after end August most of the roms had overcome the major issue of not so smooth scrolling. Infact my HD2 on Android ( past 6 roms I tested ) the scrolling beats the Galaxy S flat, very smooth comparable to my Nexus. You need a good SD card at least class 4 as the rom executes out from the SD card.

Very true ; voice to text is great. Nowadays most my sms I just talk into phone. Not to encourage anyone, sometimes while driving I reply sms just by talking to phone - is great way but a wrong thing to do as is very dangerous

While all SGS owners are waiting for Froyo 2.2 , Samsung has released Galaxy K running on Froyo 2.2. It will run with Flash 10.1 on the 3.7-inch AMOLED plus screen along with a 1 GHz CPU. It will also come with 8GB of internal memory and bluetooth and wifi.

So Froyo should materialise soon for the Galaxy S
