Hi folks,

I connected a HDMI cable from my Radeon 5770 to a full HD LCD TV. I was wondering if I play a 1080p video file on my PC, will the output on my TV be 1080p too?

On the other hand, is there a way where I can only play videos on the TV from my PC. I've tried 2 ways. One is setting dual displays which I didn't like it because my mouse goes to nowhere in the second screen even when my TV is switched off. Second was duplicate display, that was currently my preferred setting but I still wonder if my output on TV is still 1080p, because it was duplicated from my 22" LCD and I had to set to maximize display size on my Catalyst Control Centre on the duplicated(TV) screen.

Are there any alternatives? like softwares etc where I can directly display full screen video on my TV whenever I play a video.

On the other note, will this practice kill my graphics card? I don't have any sophisticated cooling unit installed on my PC.

Any experts please share your opinions smile.gif

Technically yes. One way to verify it is to download the MP4 version of AVS HD 709 here. Play the Basic Settings.MP4. The last test screen will show you if your PC output is 1080p; the dots on the screen would be clear square pixels instead of square and rectangular pixels.

You should be able to set your display to 1920x1080. Then run the MP4 file mentioned above to check your TV/PC settings. The PC doesn't differentiate between a 22" to a 32" to a 1080p projector.

No it won't. If you are running 1920x1080 resolution using your 22" monitor and your PC hasn't overheated, then you're fine if you connect your PC to your LCD TV.

no problem at all as long as your pc's graphics card able to display 1920x1080 resolution.
I tried it with my laptop with both HDMI and VGA cable, both also able to output 1920x1080 resolution to FULL HD LCD TV(Philips).

One more question, I wonder if my graphics card is being utilised even when I'm watching Astro? coz the cable is always plugged in and I seldom switch off my pc.

anyway my monitor max resolution is just 1680 x 1050, i was just afraid the output on the TV would be just the same as what I see on my monitor.

my pc is using nvidia gtx 460 and window 7.
When i use tv as main output, i just unplug my monitor then connect to tv using hdmi. zero config needed, tv will be set as main display in 1080p automatically. Also audio will be sent to tv automatically.

I can't get audio to work on TV, it's still my pc speakers playing the audio.
